Good, relaxing escape from hectic Paris

My wife and I hadn't been back to Paris since 2004, so this was about getting to know the city again without being in the middle of the city (we're at an age now where we enjoy peace and quiet a bit more haha). The Waldorf in Versailles thus became a god choice for us -- being next to the parkland that surrounds and extends from the palace gave us the peaceful setting we wanted while still being an easy trip into Paris. We booked for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel, itself, is of course stunning, being an historic building in its own right. Our room was spacious, especially the bathroom. Amenities were top notch and the staff were always helpful and friendly. The business center was very helpful when we needed to get some printing done, and we appreciated how they made suggestions for things we hadn't thought of ourselves. The breakfast each morning was good with lots of choices. If we had one small complaint, it would be that the breakfast buffet was just a little too much "American" of all things. It wasn't that different from what we would have received from a hotel in LA or New York. We would have liked to have seen more "local" variety other than just offering crepes, as well as pancakes. That being said, all was prepared well and the staff was attentive. We didn't eat in the hotel except for breakfast and one lunch. The lunch was very good. We started with caviar and the chilled shellfish bisque, which my wife thoroughly enjoyed. For the main course, I had the Irish beef entrecote steak, while my wife had the scallops. Both were done well, the scallops especially had just the proper amount of sweetness and tenderness. The wine suggestions were spot on. Another reason for our trip was to go perfume shopping for a few perfumes which are exclusive to Paris, itself. Being at the Waldorf gave us easy access to an inhouse Guerlain boutique and a selection which could only be found at their main Paris boutique and at the Waldorf. Thus, we didn't need to fight the tourists in the city center and could take our time as we made our selection and purchase of three different perfumes. The area around the hotel is perfect for daily walks. Though we were there during a rainy week, we were still able to enjoy the surroundings. On our first visit to Paris, we enjoyed walking the grounds around the Palace of Versailles more than the palace itself, so it was nice to have the run of the grounds mostly to ourselves as it was a low tourist season. All in all, it was an excellent stay. We plan to stay at the Waldorf again on our next trip to Paris, which we are sure will not be twenty years later as it was this time!

Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere

Booked to stay at this hotel as a Diamond member 6 months ahead of our stay. Now here we are 2 days away from our stay and the hotel has already charged me, and then has notified me that they can’t accommodate us due to a dignitary privatizing all rooms. Yet you can still book online for 4 times what I booked for. The property that they moved us to is not a Hilton, it is a 20 minute drive (no trains) away, and it is much cheaper per night than what I reserved our rooms for. All in all, I am extremely disappointed at the property and at Hilton for their response and lack of accommodation. I’ll be sharing this to all review sites. What if we hadn’t received proper notification and showed up to a different country with no car and no accommodation when we were supposed to be at a 5 star property?

    Perfection in Paris

I recently travelled to Paris for my wife's birthday. Versailles is such an amazing location and the Palace with all of its history and splendour is minutes walk away through the park. The Waldorf Astoria there is arguably one of the best properties I have ever stayed in. from the hotel rooms on the 1st floor with vaulted ceiling to the fabulous and always busy hotel restaurant and sophisticated bar, this hotel really does have everything for a weekend break.

    Comfy yet Grand

After a couple of hiccups on check-in (didn't want the Pavilion but the original hotel), a splendid stay! Opted for breakfast at a local boulangerie (Les Pâtisseries du Roy ~ without a doubt, the best croissants around and the finest proprietor, Maxime, who makes all the treats himself). Room 14 is high and quiet. The pool is the best ~ just ask the pool attendant to turn on the whirlpool jets for a strong, relaxing massage. Excellent location for a free walk in the Park of the Chateau of Versailles, including the Grand Canal and the Lake of the Swiss Guards.
