Hotel Advisories

Advisory *Important Information for Our Guest* As of April 2012, the destination of Costa Rica has gone non-smoking in all public buildings and areas. All hotel rooms are also non-smoking.
Advisory Over the last few weeks, rainstorms with lightning have been affecting the Guanacaste area and for safety reasons we had to put on hold the tiling of the floors around the Westin Club swimming pool. This delay affected our plan to open the swimming pool on November 01.

    Excellent Family Escape

We traveled to the Westin Reserva Conchal as a family of three over President's week. We had a great time, and found the resort to be very family friendly. The grounds are well-maintained and gorgeous. We were treated to Howler Monkeys swinging in the trees outside our door and spent all morning watching them one day, definitely a great experience. We also enjoyed watching a group of Coati foraging below our balcony on another morning. The animal "encounters" really helped make this vacation special. The property was close to capacity some days, but we always got a reservation for dinner at our preferred restaurant (done in advance) and always found three chairs together in the family section of the pool throughout the week. The wait at Mitra was always less than 5 minutes for a table at breakfast, and we were usually seated right away. It is worth noting that the hostesses were friendly and remembered us each day. While we sometimes waited for a golf cart transfer to/from our room, it is a nice service offered to all guests. Even though they were working hard with so many guests on property, the staff was always friendly and in good spirits. The service was very good overall. Our room was clean, and kept that way all week by the housekeeping team. We never saw an insect or spider in the room or on the balcony. The crew replacing coffee, tea and beverages in the mini fridge did a great job of making sure we always had what we needed. We did experience ac issues the first few days, but attributed that to being on the second floor in almost 100 degree daytime heat. The ceiling fan over the beds helped to compensate. The pool is beautiful and a refreshing temperature. The pool depth quickly slopes to 6 ft in many spots, so you will often find yourself swimming from one spot to another. Public bathroom spaces around the pool were also generally very clean. Overall we found the food to be good, when compared to other All-Inclusive resorts. We enjoyed the Italian restaurant, Faisenella, the most out of all the restaurants we tried. They were able to accommodate one gluten free diner in our party, and even served a separate tray of gluten free bread before the meal. Our favorite server was Rebecca, whom we met on our first evening while dining at Faisenella. She went above and beyond to accommodate our food sensitivity/allergy needs, and was very friendly while doing so. She even approached us at breakfast the next day to point out where the gluten free breads and pancakes were. The Asian restaurant, Bamboo, was also a hit with our family. The food was delicious, with several gluten free options available, and the service was great. Imperial Bar also had great service, cold drinks and seating available each time we visited. We did not find that the Steakhouse, La Sabana, lived up to expectations. The steak was overcooked and chewy, while the pork chop meal was nothing more than two large bones and a couple bites of meat; it was unlike any pork chop we had encountered before. Service in the family area of the pool was great. They were able to accommodate our son's request for a Grilled Cheese one afternoon, even though it wasn't on the menu. So appreciated! The beach was beautiful, but the water was rough the week we were there due to high winds. We stuck to the shoreline, and still had fun in the waves. It is worth nothing that many dogs run free on this public beach, and most are well-behaved. We did have one dog nip at our ankles while on the beach. If you are not comfortable with dogs, you might want to take this into consideration before heading out for a walk. It is important to highlight, as many other reviewers have, that most excursions from this property are a day-long affair. This means you will leave before 7 am, return back to the Westin close to sunset, and likely miss out on a day of resort time. Traffic to/from Libera was heavy each time we took the trip. This is, of course, not the fault of our guides/drivers, just worth noting. The airport transfer can also take 1-2 hours due to traffic and road conditions. We used Erik G (in the blue google shirt on the beach) to book a private Waterfall/Sloths/Coffee excursion, and also worked with him to coordinate our airport transfers before traveling. We experienced excellent, well coordinated and personalized service. He is great! As a family, we highly recommend experiencing the Llanos de Cortes Waterfall, especially if you have good swimmers in your group. It was a lot of fun to swim at the base of the waterfall.

Horrible Management, tread you like a Criminal

Horrible Management. I have the video of Westin Management calling security on me, because I couldn’t figure out what exactly we were billed for. Instead of having an amazing vacation- we had a room that had a lacking AC that was a hazard- I almost feel and broke my leg on the tile floor. The Refrigerator was leaking again creating a Hazard. We found a cockroach on the carpet. I mean disaster after disaster. Their phone system didn’t work for 2 days. During these days- when I called to mention the AC issue or anything- the front desk hang up on me. The regular staff was Amazing: Francisco, Camilla and the chef at the Mistro Restaurant. But this Westin location’s Management has to go. To call security on a guest who had a question about the bill is unheard of. I am planning to submit my complaint to Westin and Marriott. I want this particular manager to get Fired!

    Girls trip to Costa Rica

My friends stayed at the Westin for a week and found the services excellent, people friendly and rooms were clean . The restaurants food was ok. The waiters were attentive was and house keeping was some times good but didn’t leave enough towels. On the side ,there are free activities like kayaks and bicycles and other ones that you choose to pay . There are local sellers who offer massages and tours who are very friendly . We used Erik G (he has google blue shirt ) google him. We used him to go to the waterfalls and had a great hike. He was a good coordinator for the activities. Our guide Humberto was very knowledgeable. Resort has plenty of fun during the day or will also arrange activities for you .

    Great beach vacation in CR!

We had a great time at the Westin Playa Conchal - perfect for our group of 4 adults and 2 pre-teens. The resort staff were all super friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed pickleball, kayak, boogie boards and bikes that you can use at no charge. Our room was spacious and clean, loved the bunk beds for the kids. Massages on the beach were amazing. Look for Eric in the blue shirt on the beach to book excursions and transportation, which were excellent and well coordinated!

    Stay at Westin

The Westin resort is beautiful - the pool is huge and there were plenty of chairs to choose from during the day - you didn't have to get to the pool at 5 am to reserve lounge chairs like at other resorts. There is so much interesting wildlife on the resort from monkeys to iguanas, etc. It was a very unique experience to stay at a resort like the Westin in Costa Rica. Restaurants were good, but service was a bit slow at some of them. During the week we went on a few excursions, all with Erik (with the blue Google shirt). Erik is AWESOME! His communication via WhatsApp was incredibly helpful, the excursions were all worth the drive to get to, and were extremely well organized. I highly recommend using Erik for all of your activities if you stay at the Westin. We did the Rio Celeste tour, the La Leona waterfall tour, ziplining, and horseback riding - all with Erik. We also went with Erik for our transportation to and from the airport - everything went super smooth! He's the best!
