    Just don't come here..

We recently stayed at one of the Hapuna Residences at The Westin and we will not be back. **Seriously, save the money or book elsewhere** The beach is unacceptable. I understand they had some serious rain many weeks ago but they’ve had time to clean up the beach. It needs some major work. It doesn’t even look like they’ve raked it. It is not safely walkable. Every single person in our group of SIXTEEN stepped on large thorns that stuck into our feet 1/4”. The water is disgusting, at one point my husband felt something touch his leg while in the ocean and it was a diaper. The water is literally brown muck and nasty. If you try to swim in it you come out of the water covered in debris. Not one other beach on the island we visited looked like this. When I called inquiring about it, the staff stated it was a state beach and their responsibility to clean up. Really?? At the very least, they need to be advising guests that the beach has been destroyed by storms and offer some of their favorite local beaches. Even the Mauna Kea beach is 100x cleaner than Hapuna. Just don't expect to have a nice beach within walking distance - you'll have to drive everyday. The poolside staff are super rude/unfriendly/unhelpful. It was next to impossible to get an order placed for any food. I would think that since their poolside grill was closed they would have extra servers out there with the pool constantly being full. The kitchen/pool are grossly understaffed. There is a younger woman that worked by the pool the entire week (6/1-6/8) that clearly should not work in hospitality. SO rude! Many times there were no towels available poolside. On our last day there (6/7) we had planned a pool day. All 16 of us arrive to a sign stating the pool would be closed at 2pm. We are paying a daily fee to be at the pool - did not get a refund for that day. This is unacceptable when the beach is not an option either. We were not told before arriving that the poolside bar/grill is closed for renovations. I didn’t see it anywhere on their website either. When calling in to ask about it - I was told it was not closed only moved. This is deceptive. They usually have three restaurants, right now they have two - because one is CLOSED. Overall, the staff needs training. *Most* of them were very unhelpful in all various locations of the resort, including calling in to the front desk. After reading reviews, I can see that I am not the only one with these issues. Wishing I had read the most recent reviews before coming because we would’ve chosen another resort that values their guests time and money.

You are paying for the amazing beach

このホテルに泊まるのは強く非推薦します–ゴキブリあり、シミだらけのシーツ、態度が悪いスタッフ Good: - Beautiful beach and views Not so good: - German roach babies coming out behind bathroom mirror. Asked if changing rooms would resolve issue but was told it would not. Previous TripAdvisor review in April 2024 mentioned the same roach issue in bathroom. - Clean but stained bedding - please see attached photos to see how large the stains are. - No clear detour directions in early morning when landscaping blocked entire entrance/exit road when trying to depart for airport. Security guard at gate was mean and unhelpful. Expected us to automatically know where to detour and exit and was very mad when we needed more clarification. He also set mini green cones that were wide enough for a car to pass through, so we thought it meant to just go slow, but apparently he had meant for it to block the entire lane. Please put the cones in the middle then to block entirely or use the standard orange traffic cones. We did not see any detour signs when driving to the only main entrance/exit that we knew. I have formally raised my concerns to hotel and received a partial refund but still feel strongly enough about the disappointment and negative experience given the amount of money spent, to leave a review.

Nice resort on Big Island of Hawaii

This is a nice hotel resort north of town of Kona, on the west shore of Big Island of Hawaii. From the first step into the spacious open air lobby to enjoying nice cocktail by the pool, this hotel has it all. The pool area is very pretty, including one family and one adults only pool and little koi pond. The beach used to look much better before the recent storm. There is a nice trail starting from the beach and going towards Mauna Kea and the north shore. We did not really eat or drink at the hotel restaurants and the bar seemed bit overpriced. Daily live music at the lobby bar was a nice surprise. There is a huge contraction going on right now by the family pool and you can hear the sounds through out the whole property Mon-Fri all day long, which is little bit overwhelming. The sister hotel Mauna Kea is also under construction.

    Paradise on Island Time

Last year was our first time visiting and this will not be our last. We just left May 28th When we booked, the website warned us there was construction to the kids pool and restaurant. Yes, we read what was clearly typed on their website yet we were shocked that the kids pool was open. Next up, previous bad reviews about the beach aren’t true. Yes there was a major flash flood that created an unfortunate lagoon but it was there last year. It is the reality of trying to maintain balance with nature. My wife and I enjoyed crystal clear blue ocean water the entire week we were there. If you are still reading, my conclusion is near. The staff were unbelievably polite and always ready to help or even share a story. Be sure to ask because they all have lives of their own and amazing stories to share. I can’t wait to come back!! Thank you to all the staff for making this a vacation we won’t ever forget.

    Below average welcome

Based on reviews here I was eager to stay here but reluctant at the same time to book a room in advance. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed by the stately modern, sweeping architecture and grounds. I fell in love. Sadly, I would also fall out of love just as quickly with the ambiance or lack thereof. Howard Johnson does James Bond - and here I am discrediting both. Trashy and out of place pop music blared out while my gaze was transfixed at the lobby ceiling, chandelier and the view. Then came the time to inquire about availability. The registration agent did not ask for my Bonvoy status nor did she offer a one night rate better than what can be had online. She did not offer for me to see a room. Meanwhile, the busy reception area did not radiate the confidence the architecture seemed to demand. It seemed too much of a clash of styles to warrant the room rate.
