Elegance and charm and luxury in the most sought after location in Rome
Smack in perhaps the best location in Rome is the grand Westin Excelsior. It's an elegant hotel, and it will give you wonderful little surprises when you are not expecting it. A beautiful little bar off the lobby; a breakfast buffet that's as robust as they come; the quiet professionalism of the front desk ladies and gentlemen; and a Concierge team that seems to know your name and room number from the moment you walk in (along with an incredible amount of local knowledge). This is a hotel that is the opposite of the plastic, spartan look so popular today. Staying here speaks to your desire to be comfortable, to be looked after, and to be in a hotel with history yet still luxurious. This is a hotel that makes you want to return. We can't wait to do so.

A very good hotel in Rome in a good location
We stayed at the Westin hotel several nights on her recent trip to Rome. We chose the Westin Excelsior because as a member of the Marriott.Bonvoy we wanted to stay at a Marriott property in Rome. The hotel was very good and in general did not disappoint. Our room was fine, on the other hand, the bathroom was spectacular. The breakfast buffet was quite good with a lot of food options, we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh made omelettes. We were a little disappointed that the hotel does not have an M Club for premium Marriott members. The hotel is in a good location in Rome, with a lot of very good restaurants nearby. All in all very good hotel in Rome.

Terrible, dirty hotel
The worst hotel I have ever stayed in, not booked by choice, allocated the night before a cruise. Arrived 5pm & couldn’t check in as room not ready (check in is 3pm) Rude staff Dirty towels Dirty carpets Broken toilet Ripped curtains Broken bedside tables Mould in fridge Dirty tissues on the floor They need to improve the cleanliness, you don’t mind a dated hotel if it’s clean!

The best hotel in Rome with old school charm
Let's start with the staff. It is excellent. They took care of my brother and me way over what I had expected. They are all top shelf without getting in your way. It is a fantastic crew. At breakfast, I forgot my room number, but they looked it up without issue as I arranged my meal. They even have an automated, pancake, conveyer belt machine. Cool. :) The room, one of their suites, was perfect. The room had old school charm with modern conveniences. I love that shower. If I had the time, I'd stay in there until my fingers pruned up. :) There was a nice note on the table welcoming me. The bed was deliciously comfortable. I went down minutes after hitting the pillow. I don't like modern, sterile hotels. The Excelsior belongs in Rome. It is part of a time when elegance and style meant something. It still does in my book. It fits nicely perfectly in the Ludovsi. It is also a short walk to many, popular tourist attractions and to the Borghese Gardens. I would not change a thing. It is a perfect hotel in an ideal location with an efficient, caring staff. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Be very careful, they tried to way over charge us!
This was our second stay at the Westin and never again! We booked 2 king rooms and received a VERY small queen room and a king. The carpets were dirty and stained, the walls were stained with black soot, and were just dirty! When I asked for different rooms I was told that they were fully booked, with no offer of compensation. When we checked out, they tried to charge us 2800 Euros over what our booking was! Luckily I had printed out my booking and taken with me. When I showed Ginerva at the front desk, she immediately backed out the charges. Wow!
- AdvisoryPrices are based on single or double occupancy. You will incur additional charges at the time of check-in for additional room occupants. The Front Desk will verify the age of the guest to determine whether the extra fee would apply.
- AdvisoryEffective with stays of Jan 1, 2011 and beyond, the city of Rome has imposed a new tourism tax. This tax is NOT included in the cost of this vacation package and is an additional charge payable directly to the hotel. The tax is charged at 3 Euro per person per night in hotels with 4 or 5 Star rating and 2 Euro per person per night in hotels with 1, 2, or 3 Star rating. The tax is charged for up to 10 nights.
