Never again
If you like bats in your room, poor service, horrible coffee, bland food, and uncomfortable beds, this is the place to go. We had to wait 2 days to switch to a room that didn't have bats. Of course the room was of lower quality. At the very least we were expecting an apology and never received one.

Headed in the wrong direction - Melia Punta Cana
This is our 2nd time at this resort, the last time being 2018. Although my husband and I still enjoy the resort, it is starting to show some wear and needs some upgrades. Pools are missing some tiles, furniture can be updated and many of the fountain water features weren’t operational. The restaurants on the resort are delicious but for some reason the resort tends to send guests to the sister resort which is the Paradisus Palma Real which are not as good. At this time on the fence to whether or not we will come back. The staff is great but I think the management is lacking and the goal is to sign people up for their new vacation package, the Circle as there are too many areas exclusive to that program. I would rather spend my money where it is appreciated.

DO NOT STAY HERE
I booked a 4-5 star luxury vacation package through Sun Country Airlines and this resort is NOT luxury. The resort apparently changed ownership since we booked and we either didn't receive the property level we booked or this property has been allowed to become so run down & poorly managed while they upgraded other properties that it is no longer luxury. ROOM: Room was run down, dirty, smelled moldy and the air conditioning leaked & dripped on us. There were missing bulbs, broken light fixtures, rusty fixtures, dirty floors, & bugs. The toilet stopped working twice. We didn't take our shoes off in our room. Everything felt wet - bedding, towels. The room was freezing & we could not change the temp. The outside hot tub had a trickle of water and took 45 minutes to fill. There were no cushions on the lounge chairs for days (chairs were unusable w/o cushions). The pull-out couch didn't fit a 12 year old kid on it, it was so small. The outside canopy smelled of mold and body odor. Hair dryer barely worked. No king size bed - they pushed 2 double beds together which put the bed at an awkward spot - the double bed headboard was sticking out right where your pillow/head would be for the king set up. You couldn't comfortable sit up on that part of the bed. There are no outlets/chargers close to the bed. A couple good things: The room was huge. The swim up master suite outdoor space was partially private & very relaxing. Beds were comfortable. After the live music/karaoke ended, it was pretty quiet. STAFF: virtually no staff were helpful - it took multiple calls to get the maids to clean our room or for staff to fix issues. Had to call multiple times to get a couch made into bed - we all slept in the double beds the first night - uncomfortable first night. We had to call SIX times to get cushions for the outside lounge chairs over 3 dsys: I was told I didn't have a high enough package for cushions - but the chairs weren't usable w/o cushions & every room exactly like ours had the same chairs & cushions - it made no sense. Staff pretended not to speak English so they didn't have to help us (they were speaking English behind us). Staff refused to drive us within the resort on the resort golf carts to resort locations like the adventure park and back to our property from other properties - I had to enlist bell hops & other guests to tell cart drivers that we were part of the resort even though we had our resort bracelets on. Wait staff barely came to our swim up room - maybe 1-2 times per day in a 5 hour period. (this waiter was the nicest & most helpful person on staff & made some effort). Restaurant staff were utterly incapable of understanding when we ordered off their menu and it felt like we were bothering them. Apparently there is room service but we never saw a menu & were told it wasn't available when we asked about it. When I called the front desk the phone rang & nobody picked up. At a certain point, we just expected poor service during every staff interaction. At first I thought it was because I wasn't able to tip because I didn't have any small bills (first night) but then I got some change & it made no difference. Also, it was very hard to get change for tips. RESORT ISSUES: When we first arrived, we got driven between multiple properties within our resort, with a lot of Spanish being spoken, like they didn't know where to put us - the first indication something was up. When we finally got to our supposed property, the concierge did not explain anything upon check in: he tried to upsell us to a nicer room (I literally booked the nicest room on property so again I'm thinking they bait & switched us) & then told us some restaurants need reservations but you have to take a golf cart over to the sister property to make them. There was no explanation of daily activities, no restaurant menus available (had to go between the 2 properties to see any menus). We never found half the restaurants (and again, staff was unhelpful). Power went out multiple times during our stay, including during check in. Wifi shut off several times a day. Food was poor to marginal, and the upgraded/reservation-only restaurants, (which I know I paid for the upgraded package) cost extra, which was never explained until i was looking at a menu & saw the upcharges, (again bait & switch)...and the food was terrible at those restaurants too with tiny portions. The only restaurant worth eating at was Ruby Rocks Sports Bar. The Pool was in disrepair (tiles missing/sharp scraps on the floor of the pool & freezing). It's way too far from the beach (10-15 min walk or 8 min resort ride, if you can convince them to take you) and the beach is full of locals hawking junk & pressuring you to buy excursions. When I finally got my hands on an activity schedule, it was really disappointing - some crafts for the kids & music in the evenings, beach volleyball - nothing worth the price. One good thing: the outdoor space is well manicured. This is maybe a 2-3 star resort at best but it came with 5 star prices. It was not at all busy - you could tell the place wasn't close to full. There appeared to be plenty of staff. I've traveled to other countries and know there is a different level of service in different places but this was so far below expectations, I reached out to Sun Country Airlines. Even at half the price we paid, it would have been overpriced.

The Reserve at Paradisus
We had a great time! Beautiful grounds and beach. Thank you to Pedro, Martin, and Yuderis at the beach who took great care of us. Also thank you to Yennifer who made sure our room was well cleaned and restocked daily. Thank you to Bladimir and Fausto at Santé restaurant who were amazing waiters.

not as promised
I recently stayed at the Paradisus Palma Real resort and was disappointed with the experience I had. While the serving staff was exceptional, the management's lack of attention to detail and corporate rebranding style put a damper on my trip. When we arrived at the resort, we were informed that we would be staying in a different suite than the one we had reserved. Not only was this suite smaller and less luxurious than the one we had booked, but it was also not located by the beach as advertised. This was a major letdown, as we had specifically chosen this resort for its beachfront location. We found as we were there that we were not alone, our reservation was to stay at the Reserve at Palma Real (which has now become their luxury suites), instead they put us in The Garden Suites, a small, dirty mosquito infested room. We brought it it to the front desk, concierge and anyone that we could complain about but nothing was done. We didn't choose this resort for the value, we had options and we decided on this one because of the pictures and the proximity to the beach. Despite this setback, the serving staff at the resort were outstanding. They were friendly, welcoming, and went out of their way to ensure that we had a positive experience. Their service was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing stay. In addition to the room mix-up, we also experienced issues with the resort's rules. There were pools in the resort that we couldn't use, sides of the beach that we couldn't stay for no reason whatsoever.
