    Exceeded Expectations!

This resort is beautiful. All the photos you see in reviews and on the websites…believe it! Very nice and only about 20 minutes from the airport. My family of 4 (two teen boys 19, 16), my wife and I, visited just to chill and enjoy an international trip. Check-in was very easy (granted we arrived around 9pm). They give you a wristband that has an RF ID embedded that serves as your room key. The bellhops will take your luggage and you to your room via golf cart. Get settled and then explore the grounds and try to grab the concierge to book any dinner reservations. Some tips…bring money for tips, watch videos on YouTube about the resort (do’s and don’ts). Tipping helps for sure and a dollar goes a long way. Set up transportation from the airport in advance. We used Otium transportation service (approx. $60 each way). There are tons of random transportation people outside the airport that are aggressive and probably a scam. Go to the pool and try to grab chairs near the bar. The music vibe and people watching are great. Get familiar with your server too. Our server Makati, was very nice and attentive he also found my wife’s Yeti cup she left behind and returned it to us the next day. He knew my drink after the first order. He’s awesome! Oh, try to remember some of that high school Spanish. Having some Spanish vocab helps. Here are some of my additional thoughts. Accommodations: We booked the Nikte -Two room swim up master suite. Arrived on Tuesday night, left on Saturday morning. This came with a concierge. Wily was ours, he’s very attentive and willing to do whatever you need. We really only used him for dinner reservations and a few questions. Concierge service was ok, can survive without if the resort is not busy. Resort was maybe 50% full. Got more lively later in the week. Bugs- not a big deal for us. Got a few mosquito bites at night. Room service for breakfast was our go to. Had to order at 9am or after but took about 30 minutes to get. Was nice to eat in our suite. Food was decent. Coffee was great. Having the swim up option was really nice. Just a few steps outside of your room and you’re in the pool! Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Well stocked fridge (Water, Coca-cola, Perrier, el Presidente/Corona beer, etc.). Two bottles of Wine in-room, cheese & sausage plate, bottle of rum. Check-in very quick, easy. I suggest calling a few days before arriving to reconfirm your reservation and to check if there is a better rate. Clean rooms, great water pressure for showering and sinks. Access to other properties (tennis, basketball, casino, etc.). Grounds are clean, well maintained and beautiful - always saw people working. Plenty of seating available at the beach, pools and center plaza (night entertainment). Great drink selection at all the bars. Some higher end liquor not available for “free”. Brugal Extra Viejo Rum is an excellent option, IMO. WiFi was decent. Worked well the whole trip. Room had a beach bag for holding towels, etc. Decent variety of activities for all ages-some are dependent on how many people are around. People…everyone we talked to was great! It was fun to meet some people from all over the world. One Love!! Cons: Food labeling at buffet, sometimes not properly aligned, not allergy friendly. Room service took 30-45 minutes to deliver Outdoor furniture at our suite has some stains on the cabana bed and a loose bolt on a chair that I easily fixed. Beach needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Lots of small pieces of garbage, plastic zip-ties, random crap. Pushy independent vendors on the beach - they get mad if you ignore. Casino - small, not very loose. Can only play table games after 5pm. Only has blackjack, roulette. Some activities are not well organized, wish the activity leaders would at least try to recruit. We did play volleyball and sand soccer. The guy running it was very fun! Food: The Winery - (had to sit through the 20 minute vacation membership spiel to get the “upgrade”). Steak was incredible!!Maximo and Juan were outstanding servers. Blue Agave - pastor tacos are great, I had the enchilada mole, and it was kinda dry. Tokimeku - hibachi style dinner, lots of fun, food was delicious, maybe slightly rich from sauces but still a good experience. Celsius Pool - great service, big pool area, most people to watch/meet. Buffet - decent, good selection of foods. Staff very nice and attentive. Night Entertainment - different theme each night. Music or performances. Dominican night included some local vendors (Jewelry, Cigars, Art). Overall a nice party vibe but not overwhelming. Definitely family friendly. Lastly, the checkout process was easy. Bellhops picked up our luggage and took it to reception. Be sure to ask for a final printout of your bill to ensure there are no additional fees-we didn’t have any but you never know. We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend it and would come back.

    Excellent Group Holiday

We’ve just departed Palma Real and it’s been a wonderful six night stay. Overall I’d highly recommend the place and I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews. We booked two Nikte swim-up junior suites, one Nikte swim-up master suite, and one Reserve garden suite. The rooms were great, very clean and comfortable, with good air conditioning and convenient cleaning. The swim-up rooms were fantastic for the 4 under-5’s we had with us, and we managed to be all in a row which was so great for hanging out during the day. I didn’t go to the Reserve room but my mom and aunt enjoyed the quiet it afforded them when they needed an escape from 4 little boys. The minibar was restocked regularly with treats for kids and adults, and if you happened to be in the room when your attendant came round, you could make sure they knew your preferences. One thing that was slightly disappointing was the lack of Nikte toys and decor for the children. I’ve stayed at other Paradisus with Nikte where they set up a tepee and had Meliã toys for them. Also the concierge situation is a bit of luck. Ours was pretty useless despite us tipping and not asking for much, but we had other excellent staff members that made up for it. We didn’t speak to him after day 3 because it was pointless. I think they’d benefit from centralised concierge service managed through WhatsApp, which is how at least one other Paradisus I’ve been to does theirs. It’s quicker and more efficient and responsive, though you might not get as much personal interaction. With a swim-up room we had a great pool right outside the door, and there was regular drink service. Edickson was fabulous and took great care of us. The main pool was lovely and we managed to get a Bali bed one day without going out super early. We also really enjoyed the beach and spent several mornings in the sea. Restaurants were generally good with a couple very good. Mina (chicken josper was amazing) and Mascalzone were our favourites but we also had Tokimeku and Blue Agave (shrimp tacos are 10/10!). Great service, though one night was inexplicably slow but as a group of 11 that’s maybe not unexpected. Edito (kinda everywhere) and Alexander (Mina) were wonderful and our boys were in love with them. Breakfast was tasty and didn’t disappoint, except we had fantastic chilaquiles one day and they never made it back into the buffet rotation… the fried egg tostadas were a suitable substitute. Ricki always took great care of us on a morning. We typically had Kanna for lunch and though the options were limited, we still enjoyed it. Room service was also a limited menu but very handy for kids lunches. We did quite a lot of activities as well: macrame, artisan crafts, soap making, mamajuana tasting… all were great fun and well run. Brandol was helpful and let us know where things would be happening. We didn’t get to do the off-site activity as it’s not available for under 5’s. I wish we’d known before arrival because we were really looking forward to it. Would we come again? Maybe, though it’s quite a trek from the U.K. That said, I’d 100% recommend it to anyone who wanted a nice holiday.
