The good, the bad and the ugly
Just returned from 7 days at this resort and here are the good, the bad and the ugly. Arrived late and checked in- Not a staff member in sight to help us find our room or direct to the nearest elevators. Once we arrived at the room, we quickly discovered that it was not the upgrade we paid for. Initially we upgraded to a Oceanview room, we were given a room that overlooked roofs and another building. We brought this to the attention of the concierge and then told that it's a partial Oceanview. (That was not listed in the description), after complaining to multiple staff remembers, the hotel manager found us a room 2 days later on a higher floor with a view. Food was good, swim up bars were busy but that is to be expected, and I never waited in line for a buffet. Shows were mediocre, music plays till 11pm every night and can be heard throughout the whole resort, young adults everywhere and the hallways get loud around 3-4am. Room was cleaned daily and fridge was restocked with water and beer. Now the downside- Found 3 cockroaches in our room, killed 1 but the other 2 got away, hot water in both rooms were not working , bathroom door in the first room wouldn't close, sheets were stained, water smelled like Sulphur, only 2 blenders to make drinks that we could find, no beach chairs, had to reserve our pool chair by 9am with towels or you were not getting one, patio doors did not close properly., hotel tax of $140 when you first check in that was not disclosed to us upon booking, not much food variety for young kids in the restaurants. We reserved a Bali bed on the final day, definitely worth it and I would recommend to everyone. This resort in my opinion is geared towards young people, with nightclubs and EDM parties, late nights etc... Will I be returning- por

Do. NOT. go. here!
To start my review, I have been to Mexico at least 3 different times now, which has all been wonderful - speaking from someone who has also low expectations from going to Cuba. We arrived late at night - nobody directed us where to check in, where the lobby was. We asked about how much it would to be to upgrade, and let me tell you - the guy at the desk was the only phenomenal thing there. He was very kind, patient and answered all of our questions. BESIDES that there are a lot of hidden fees that are not disclosed on Sunwing. Very limited unless you want to pay more $ - also NO internet because nobody told us where we could even get the code lol. We entered our room in disbelief. Broken shower head, cock roaches, DUSTY moldy smell through out the room and entire building. We left to look around - and there was throw up in multiple places, garbage in the pools, lots of young adults extremely toxicated (which is fine lol. to each to their own). We gave it the benefit of the doubt the next morning - the buffet which no one informed us where it was - very limited, had no selection to beverages besides water, coffee or watered down ‘orange juice’ - one of their selected meat options was chopped hot dogs. I could not even stomach half the things as I’m pregnant, I’m disheartened. We contacted Sunwing multiple times, spent majority of our time in our room trying to figure out a solution to this mess we called a ‘relaxing and looking forward vacation’ the reception and customer service table stated multiple times there were no rooms until we said we were leaving. then they offered a change of room, or a discount? WHAT! this makes me beyond sad. beyond frustrated, and realized that clearly this resort does not put their customers first. i gave the benefit of the doubt, despite the reviews. and was absolutely devastated. hopefully sunwing or the resort will help compensate some of the funding we paid as we stayed one night. we will see!

Absolutely not 5 Star
If you’re looking for a place to completely ruin a vacation you worked hard and paid for, Grand Oasis Cancun is a top tier disaster. From the moment you arrive, the chaos starts. Check in feels like a disorganized free for all, with long lines, unhelpful staff, and zero sense of urgency. Don’t expect a warm welcome, expect confusion, attitude, and a whole lot of waiting. The rooms? A complete gamble. Outdated, poorly maintained, and often not even properly cleaned. Think stained sheets, broken fixtures, and a lingering smell that makes you question everything. And if something’s wrong, good luck getting it fixed, customer service is practically nonexistent. Food is another nightmare. “All inclusive” apparently means low quality, repetitive, barely edible meals. Long waits just to get into restaurants, and when you finally do, the food is cold, bland, or questionable at best. Drinks are watered down, and bartenders act like you’re inconveniencing them by ordering. Now let’s talk about the crowd. This place attracts nonstop partying, excessive drinking, and behavior that goes way beyond fun into straight up obnoxious. If you’re looking for relaxation, peace, or anything family friendly, you won’t find it here. It’s loud, messy, and feels more like a chaotic spring break that never ends. Service overall is indifferent at best and rude at worst. Staff seem overwhelmed, undertrained, or simply uninterested in helping guests. Requests go ignored, issues go unresolved, and you’re left feeling like once they have your money, they couldn’t care less. The only thing consistent about Grand Oasis Cancun is disappointment. Save yourself the frustration, wasted money, and regret, there are far better places in Cancun that actually value their guests.

Not luxurious at all, but not as bad of an experience as others shared
I was quite nervous to go here because of the reviews. We honestly had a great time. There are things that could have been better, but having rebooked our cancelled Cuba trip and only having to pay a bit more to go to Mexico it’s what we expected. It was cheaper than other resorts, so we didn’t have the same expectations of other visits to Mexico where we paid a lot more. Service- if you’re patient and respectful the staff treat you the same way. Everyone was super friendly and kind. There were a couple workers who weren’t as warm but weren’t rude either. Rooms- didn’t run into any cockroaches at all. Was worried because reviews said it was infested. Not our building! The rooms were cleaned daily. Water wasn’t regularly replaced that was a little frustrating. Beer, and coke/coke zero were never replaced but, we didn’t mind as much about that. They are dated rooms for sure, not luxury if that’s what you’re expecting but we saw staff renovating daily, they seem to be trying to modernize the place. We were room 1555- it’s super loud at night because of all the younger vacationers partying. That didn’t really bother us, good for them out there living life, if we had young kids we might have felt differently. Our family with a little one were on the opposite end of the resort and it was much quieter and chill over on their end. Beach- beautiful, but red flag almost all of the time because it’s quite wavy. There are not many chairs at all but, whatever it’s like a beach back home. Sit on your towel, replace it and then deal with the sand. White sand, blue water, and not the worse seaweed situation we’ve seen in Mexico. Food- we didn’t book at the restaurants needing reservations. Maki Taco was better than we anticipated but reminded me of grocery store sushi. The Mexican restaurant was ok. I wish it was more “ Mexican” I had fish. It didn’t have much flavour and came with white rice & broccoli which is pretty boring. We stuck to the buffets for most meals. A lot of repeats but that didn’t bother us. Chips, guac, pico, and some sort of protein was always an option. The tamales were good, and the smoked pork near the cheese was good for making sandwiches or on its own. Lunches we went to Hippie Chic most often- when the chicken is fresh it’s great( a bit tough when it’s not) tacos and burgers aren’t bad either. Pizza anywhere here isn’t great but it’s edible. The black label el yucateco sauce makes everything better at lunch, and the spicy green sauce at dinner! We found breakfast better at the Tun Kul. We didn’t ever come across bacon but could smell it from one of the restaurants we didn’t have access to… that hurt lol Pool- we stayed over near Hippie Chic because the crowd was younger kids and older adults. The other end is where the parties are. Depends on what vibe you’re going for when deciding which pool area. They keep the pools clean as they can, unfortunately sometimes people are gross and don’t want to use the trash cans. Pools were a good temperature warm enough for ppl who don’t like cold pools but still refreshing. The free jungle cruise was fun. There is a $13pp dock fee but it’s a few hours on a boat, with music and unlimited drinks! Worth it. It’s a short walk to the dock. Lines at the bar can be long, but if you just ride it out, and wait for the line to die down before going over it’s less frustrating. Would I go back? most likely not… but if I had to because everything else was too expensive, yes I would. It is what you make it. We had a good time, we didn’t starve and we had a clean room to crash in!
