  Solo Trip

  I am currently at the resort. When we arrived on Thursday with Sunwing we were greeted nicely with cold towel and rumpunch. Special thanks to Miss Anna at the FD she was amazing. She took care of me, she made sure I got to eat before the lunch time was over. She checks on me everyday to make sure I was OK. The food is amazing, I had the best oxtail yesterday at the Palms buffet. The staff is friendly and helpful. Miss Lorna the supervisor is doing a great job. My housekeeper Beatrice is doing an excellent job. My room is spotless, my towels are clean and fresh every day since I've been here. The ressort is clean and tidy. My only observation is there is a lack of entertainment at night. I am enjoying my stay so far. Thanks Sonesta for making my stay worth it.

  Needs some TLC

  For an all inclusive the choices were very limited. They only had 2 tables with with food choices with a lot of flies on the food. If you want a hot shower good luck. The water was cold or Luke warm at best. The staff was not friendly at all. If you want a 5 star review provide uniforms for your staff. Some wore tatered jeans. Not a good look. In the 6 days there only 1 day had activities at the pool and some of the restaurants outside of the buffet were closed. Whoever is managing this resort needs to look around and see what's going on

  Expensive Day Pass

  Wife and I arrived via cruise ship to St Maarten in Sep 2026. We had previously been to Sonesta Maho years ago with a day pass. Wife wanted to go back so we purchased a day pass 30 days prior to arrival. The price was much higher this time and I am not sure it was really worth it. The main attraction is the proximity to the airport. We caught a taxi and in 20 mins we arrived at the Sonesta Maho. Check-in was quick and we were out the back door heading to the beach. The common areas of the resort we clean and pristine. We stopped on the way and grabbed towels from the towel hut. The resort has changed since our last visit. They now have an elevated beach for the resort above the main beach. This was fine because it kept the vendors away. The day pass included all drinks and food. At 10am, the bar opened so we started getting drinks. Service was fast but they serve drinks in tiny plastic cups. Kind of a drawback for an all-inclusive resort but it is what it is. We had pizza from the pizza restaurant for lunch and it was pretty good. Around 12:45, I made my way over to the airport to watch the 3 larger planes land. We had a fun time at Sonesta Maho but for the price, we probably would not do it again.

  Good location near the airport; Pool view rooms are not always as advertised!

  Check in was good. We had booked a pool view room. However, we were given a room on the first floor in a corner with no view at all except plants and trunks of the palm trees. On top of that it was a handicapped room. Bathroom had no storage at all and shower leaked water on to the floor if you stayed in more than 5 minutes. Sitting on the patio was very noisy since we were very close to the main entrance to the hotel lobby and there was constant traffic going by. First afternoon it rained hard, so we went to the buffet restaurant which was covered to wait for dinner to be served. We were asked to leave by one of the employees since they were "closed". (20 minutes until they opened) We simply wanted to be under cover as it looked like more rain on the way and wanted to wait for dinner to open. She told us to go back to our room and change our clothes! She was very rude to say the least. We went to another restaurant and waited in line quite a while and finally got seated. The food at the Asian restaurant is very good (ate there twice) The buffet for breakfast had a huge line each morning since that is the only place serving other than the coffeeshop serving crossants. The Village Tavern serves a nice lunch and late night snacks. Most of the bartenders were pleasant and served in a timely fashion. Music is very loud around the pool area in the afternoons. Parking is $10 per day in a covered garage. Housekeeping never came to our room either day. This resort could be a great place, but very inconsistant service, food opening times are not as advertised on website, be sure to ask where your room is before accepting. I would probably give this resort a second chance, but be very careful of some of the items mentioned. It has great potential. Some of the staff need a lesson in people skills however. Location is nice and able to watch planes land near the beach.

  Exceptional Hospitality That Made Our Stay Special!

  My family and I stayed at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort from September 26th through October 3rd to celebrate my grandmother’s 70th birthday. While we enjoyed the resort, what truly made our stay memorable was the exceptional hospitality. Several staff members deserve recognition for making our experience so special. Front Desk | Cedric From the moment we arrived, Cedric was exceptional. Due to a booking error on our part, we had reserved rooms on the family side rather than the adults-only property. Understandably, this caused some frustration within our group, particularly among my grandmother and her friends. Cedric handled everything with patience, professionalism, and grace, ensuring everyone felt heard and accommodated. Ironically, I ended up being grateful for the mix-up because the adults-only lobby wasn’t air-conditioned, and with that St. Maarten heat, I was more than happy to be on the air-conditioned side of the resort! He even extended a complimentary room upgrade to me, knowing it was my first visit with friends and wanting us to have a wonderful experience. His genuine concern for our comfort set the tone for our entire stay. I also want to acknowledge the lovely young ladies at the front desk whose names I unfortunately misplaced. They were equally attentive, welcoming, and helpful. The Palm Restaurant | Sharon, Jonathan, Dante, Ms. Johnston (unfortunately, I can’t recall her first name), Omarion & Simone The Palm was my favorite everyday dining experience at the resort. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet-style, it offered some of the best food on the property, aside from Azul. While buffet selections can be hit or miss, we generally enjoyed the food, especially the freshly prepared options. What made The Palm truly special was its staff. Sharon, Jonathan, Dante, Ms. Johnston, Omarion, and Simone were wonderful! After a few days, they knew our group, remembered us, and regularly checked in to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. They were also particularly attentive to my orange and coconut allergies, which I greatly appreciated. Even on our last day, when our flight was delayed and we had already checked out, we were able to continue using the resort amenities with our wristbands. The staff welcomed us back and continued looking after us until our departure. There is something special about being treated as more than just another guest. Their hospitality felt personal, sincere, and genuinely caring. Azul Experience | Jenneal & Carlos The Azul Experience was another highlight and absolutely worth the additional cost! We celebrated my grandmother’s birthday with 14 guests. Unfortunately, the restaurant could only seat 10 people at one table, so we were split into two nearby tables. Although I initially wished we could all sit together, the experience was still wonderful. Our main server, Jenneal, was fantastic! She handled our large group beautifully, was attentive and funny, and made an effort to learn everyone’s names. When our family began giving birthday speeches, she even joined in with a speech of her own, as though she’d known my grandmother for years! It was hilarious and such a memorable moment. She also recommended delicious strawberry lemon drops after we’d started with rum punches. Carlos, who was bartending at the time but no longer works at the resort, deserves recognition for his excellent cocktails. At $89 per person, the experience included a starter, entrée, dessert, and three cocktails. Every course was excellent! Despite staying at an all-inclusive resort, I would gladly pay for this dining experience again. Money well spent! Italian Restaurant | Mariele The Italian and Mexican restaurants share a location and alternate operating days. We thoroughly enjoyed the Italian restaurant, especially the food and our wonderful server, Mariele. Her warm, bubbly personality made her such a pleasure to interact with. She was fun, welcoming, and brought great energy to our evening. Swim-Up Bar | Jahiem & Stephanie Jahiem and Stephanie took wonderful care of us at the swim-up bar throughout our stay. Both were fun, attentive, and made great drinks! One memorable moment was when I asked Jahiem to make a frozen dirty martini for my aunt. Although it wasn’t something they typically prepared, he accommodated her request, and she absolutely loved it! Stephanie was equally wonderful, always ensuring we were taken care of and enjoying ourselves. Spa | Anna I desperately needed a spa day, and Anna delivered an incredible deep tissue massage! I prefer firm pressure, and she provided exactly what I needed while consistently checking to ensure I was comfortable. I left feeling relaxed and so much better. What really took the experience over the top was when I asked her to record a quick video for my Instagram story. Rather than simply filming me on the massage table, she creatively captured the flowers, panned around the room, and then filmed me. I was genuinely impressed with her eye for detail! A 10/10 experience for both her massage and unexpected videography skills! Final Thoughts More than the amenities or beautiful surroundings, it was the people who made Sonesta Maho special. The staff remembered our names, accommodated our needs, and made us feel genuinely cared for. What they couldn’t have known was that while I was celebrating my grandmother’s 70th birthday, I was also planning a funeral for a loved one back home. It was an emotionally difficult time, and this vacation was something I truly needed. Their kindness and warmth meant more to me than they could have realized. We never really know what someone else is going through or how much our interactions can mean to them. I also don’t think people always realize how far a positive impression can reach. As an event planner who works with couples considering destination weddings, my experience has made Sonesta Maho a property I would genuinely consider recommending to clients. I already love St. Maarten, but the hospitality we experienced gave me an even greater appreciation for what this resort could offer others celebrating special occasions. Thank you to Cedric, Sharon, Jonathan, Dante, Ms. Johnston, Omarion, Simone, Jenneal, Carlos, Mariele, Jahiem, Stephanie, and Anna. Excellent hospitality deserves recognition, and each of you helped make this trip memorable. I left St. Maarten grateful for the time spent with loved ones and the kindness we experienced along the way. It was a vacation I truly needed and one I’ll remember for a long time.
