  Overpriced for overall experience

  Food quality is not the best. Be prepared for a 45 min to 1hr wait for main courses. Restaurants are inconsistent you get a different quality meal if visiting the same one twice. At secrets they are a decent trek or ride via golf cart. Lack of main lobby bar area. Bars close sharp at 11pm and its lights out unless you go to the club. Had it not been for the excellent service of Albin, Jaimie, Mario and Jonathan in the preferred area it would have been 2 stars.

  A lovely place to refresh and relax!

  What a beautiful place! Great upgrades recently made to the property- especially to the preferred area. Now sits right on the beach with its own pool. GREAT!! Mostly great service. Very clean. Beautiful ocean view room so we enjoyed sunrises from the balcony in our robes. During our stay this was a pretty quiet resort. I think one night the music was loud until about 10 pm - which didn't bother us at all. Highly recommend!! (close to the dream too so it was fun to walk around and see what it was like and then escape back to the adult only Secrets :) ) Shout out to a few exceptional people who made our time memorable: Albin at the pool Francisco at Ki ki Che restaurant (you MUST eat here one night) Bryan at the spa Coco cafe girls - always quick with coffee and a smile. Preferred pool concierge - great service at main and preferred pool

  Not as advertised

  The website gives the impression of a high end 5* all-inclusive when in reality this is a solid 4* resort with a party vibe. If you've never been to a Secrets resort before and you're seeking a relaxing holiday with top quality food and service then this is not the place for you. The food options are numerous and are...ok. The food at Portofino really needs some work but everywhere else is just fine but really nothing special anywhere. The biggest problem for anyone seeking relaxation is that there is only one pool area so it's impossible to escape the party atmosphere. Fine if that's what you came for but other than going to the beach there really is no escape once it hots up from late morning onwards. Admittedly Preferred gives you a private pool - more like a large plunge pool - and a choice of two crowded Bali bed areas that are away from the main pool but honestly they didn't look that appealing. The best option for a little peace is probably the $$$ oceanfront suites with plunge pools but then you've no shade all morning and total shade all afternoon given their position. We were most disappointed with how the local management team handled an issue involving our luggage on arrival. Between the arrival reception and the check in reception one of our suitcases handles became jammed in the upward position. We'd travelled from Europe so it had been a long day and the staff were immediately very defensive claiming it was our fault for over packing the suitcase! Confusing since the handle had worked perfectly through two international airports and several taxi journeys packed just as it was! Since our stay was only 4 days as we were travelling onward by air within Mexico we were immediately concerned as of course we could not travel with this piece of luggage. For the next 48 hours the hotel tried to repair the broken handle but continued to deny any responsibility - including quite aggressively saying that they'd watched the CCTV footage of the luggage coming from one reception to another to prove they had "met their protocols"! Honestly it started to feel like a crime scene investigation. All this for a $100 suitcase. As time was running out before our departure in the end we took matters into our own hands and lost a few holiday hours going to Sears and buying a replacement. On return from the store we met with the duty manager who continued to be passively aggressive. Overall a classic example of poorly trained junior management staff who instead of killing the problem from minute 1 allowed it to accumulate over a number of days. As is typical with lower rent resorts like this they love a corporate booking and since the pool area is so small and naturally these clients want to host events around the pool then if you're unlucky enough to coincide with a business booking then you're really going to know about it. Since we were travelling from Europe our body clocks were rather set to early mornings and early bedtimes. On our third night there was no chance of that as the disco from the private event - just 50 yards from our room - was inexplicably turned up to the max (even the event guests were drifting away lest their eardrums start to bleed). All the hotel needed to do was advise us on check in of this event and whilst we wouldn't have been thrilled at least our expectations would have been managed. This resort does not do expectation management... As you'll read from the many, many positive reviews if you know what you're coming to and have deliberately chosen this kind of vibe then you won't be anywhere near as disappointed as we were.

  Consistently an Exceptional experience.

  As always, we had a fabulous experience at SPM! It was our 16th time staying at this resort. Although we’ve been to many all over, this is the one we always return to because of the employees who have become family! Martha, the pool and beach concierge ALWAYS goes above and beyond to welcome us and help us with anything we need. On our most recent visit, she went out of her way to coordinate with the pool concierge at Dreams (next door) so that we could receive the same special experiences while “hanging out” at the Dreams family resort with our kids and grandkids. It made it such a special and memorable week! THANK YOU MARTHA!!! See you again soon.

  Hyatt Secrets

  Very nice resort with excellent service and great dining options! The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. I would stay again.
