Disappointing Start to My Stay
My recent stay at the Royalton Splash Cancun, with my 17-year-old son, began with significant frustration that unfortunately overshadowed our high hopes for the resort. Despite booking a room with ** double beds**, we were informed upon check-in that they had run out and were given a **king bed** for the night. We were told to check back the next day to potentially switch rooms. This exact situation also happened to my friend, who is also traveling with us with her teenage son. What made this inconvenience even more disheartening was the resort's complete unwillingness to offer any complimentary compensation. Considering we paid $6,000 for our stay, it's truly unacceptable to not receive the room configuration we paid for, especially without any attempt to rectify the inconvenience with a gesture of goodwill. As a travel agent, I am profoundly disappointed by this experience. I had been strongly considering this resort for a large family group of over 50 people, but after this initial encounter, I will absolutely **not be recommending** the Royalton Splash Cancun to any of my clients.

The Worst/Timeshare
First I want to say, I am an experienced traveler, and have traveled every 6 months for the last 35 years. I have been to the Royalton in Cancun, Jamaica, and Saint Lucia along with several other brands. The Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is by far the resort WORST! EVER! PERIOD! This resort is a TIMESHARE Franchise and has agents everywhere, in the lobby, at the elevator, the 1 floor hallways. They are all asking if they can give you something free and come to breakfast. They dress in outfits that say Royalton. They insist they are not timeshare, but call it what you want. One of the timeshare ladies started talking to the lady(a real Royalton employee) that wanted to escort me to the check in line and they kept looking at me and my husband. Then the timeshare lady came to us with a welcome drink and said "I have a lot of free gifts for your birthday." How would she know it was my birthday? The resort gave them my information. There is no way she would have known it was my birthday without them giving her my information. She waited for us the whole time we were in the check in line. Then she wanted to make dinner reservations for us. I told her I make the dinner reservations myself, all you have to do is use the app (starting at midnight) or go to the end of the hall to INFO Point and they will quickly do it there for you. Wasting our time trying to get us to buy into their timeshare. The next day as we arrived in the lobby she said with an attitude " Hey, I made reservations at the steakhouse for you last night and you didn't show up. We were like why? We made our own. " Then she pulled out her phone to show us, she could not show any proof of it. I told her all reservations under our name show up on the app as scheduled. So she said "give me your name and room # again, I will show you how you can get a FREE cabana bed for a day". We said no thank you, we've already have everything we need. She said I can show you how to get 3 nights free in this hotel. We laughed and walked away. Regina at the check-in desk was terrible. She could not answer any questions like, whether we could get our change back in US dollars instead of paso's. She put our bracelets on, leaving about 3 inches of string hanging that would drag in the food and stay wet after swimming or showering.. She gave us NO direction, map, anything about the app, nor what was open to get food at time of our check in.. If we were not experienced travelers we would have been totally lost. The Buffet Food was horrible. Not enough staff to keep tables clean for the next guest. Reservations for Mexican & Steakhouse were very good. Scores sports bar - ordered ribs, nachos, hamburger, and margaritas, she brought the drinks and I'm not sure of what it was but it was NOT a margarita. After about 30 minutes our waitress came to the table and said HER SHIFT WAS OVER and someone else would bring our food. After 50 minutes the new waitress came over and told us they were OUT OF RIBS AND HAMBURGERS. But, what happened to the nachos? We just left. Food truck was just okay, Nibbles snack bar had some weird food on it, we did not try it. Breakfast in the buffet had long lines for omelets and they ran out of bacon continually, and there was nowhere to sit. Our room, 13811, the fan over the bed ran at high speed, wobbling and noisey. as if it was going to fall down, called maintenance and he said it only had that 1 speed but not to worry even with all the noise and wobbling it will not fall that's how it is. Patio door, It took full body strength to open and close, maintenance came and put oil on it yet, it did not help because the door was off the track and stayed that way our entire stay. The sink drains very, very slowly, the shower was very strange in my opinion, hold the shower head as you clean yourself? We only had 1 bathrobe and no slippers. The ice machine on the 8th floor did not work our entire stay. The long hallways were very hot during the day. Diamond Club: We did not do DC but went several times through the area and I did not see anyone wearing a DC bracelet. We were to receive $300 resort credit, forget it, they don't want you to even mention it, they know nothing about it. They offer no exchange privileges. The workers in the restaurant and bars were very friendly and hardworking and also went out of their way. This resort Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun and its timeshare does not deserve the Royalton name. I will not return nor will I recommend this resort to any of my clients. I will send them to Planet Hollywood instead.

Joshua Yoga Class is a must!
Joshua’s aromatherapy yoga class was refreshing! Enjoyed the ocean view. Highly recommend if you’re needing a good stretch and relaxing experience. No shame zone. It’s just what I needed on this trip. I also dragged my husband which was his first time to do yoga. He really enjoyed it.

Food, ocean and waterpark
We tried few restaurants. One that we liked the most was the Asian restaurant Zen, Chef Hugo was awesome the food was great and we had so much fun. Overall the place was great to stay, the kids enjoyed the waterpark, beds were so comfortable, service was great too.

Great dinner at Zen hibachi style
This review is only for our dinner experience at Zen…both sushi and hibachi was great. Specifically, hibachi with Chef Hugo and Omar was a highlight. Dinners are good. All other food concepts and quality are lacking. Be prepared to wait in short lines that take an exorbitant amount of time. Food for poolside is not available unless you upgrade to cabanas. Lunch at any of the food trucks will cost you between 45 minutes to an hour waiting in line away from your group. Breakfast quality is good but again the lines are way too long. All the omelette stations took between 30 minutes and 45 minutes.
