    Fabulous stay!

My daughter & I have just returned from our 5th & 7th visit (first since covid) the hotel is just as amazing as ever. We checked in online thro Riu Class which saved a lot of time on arrival 👍 Our room was lovely 3412 albeit looking a little tired now but was always nicely cleaned and tidied, the fridge was always kept well stocked 👌All the staff are friendly, very hardworking and exceptionally efficient, the bar staff are absolutely amazing ⭐️⭐️ Fridays are White & Neon parties, not really for me but the effort put into them was incredible. We weren’t impressed with the evening entertainment, only saw one show in the 10 nights (Grease which was fabulous) that was performed by the entertainment team. There was always plenty of beds available around the pool, even into the afternoon, much busier on Thursdays when the foam party was on. We had 2 meals in the Asian and 3 in the Italian restaurants and 1 in the Steakhouse (1/2hr wait) well worth the wait. All in all we had a lovely stay and will hopefully return next year. Thank you Riu Tequila you smashed it!!! 😍

    Very Enjoyable

Firstly let me caveat this review by confirming this is a great hotel! You get what you pay for, and those expecting Peroni, Don Julio, Fillet Steaks and fine wines need to consider what hotel they are booking and plan accordingly. There’s loads to like. The layout is perfect, a large footprint hotel with everything at its centre and it works brilliantly. The staff are to a person outstanding. special mention to Rangel in the buffet, you deserve every tip you get my friend, simply outstanding. Diana, Luis, Anna and Andrea looked after us in the sports bar impeccably, and even my butchering of asking for a ginebra rosado con 7up raised a smile. I’ve stayed in a few hotels in Mexico and really liked this room. it isn’t unnecessarily large, but there’s plenty of room and tall ceilings too. Food and drinks quality is fine, and i thought the steak house was excellent. i can’t vouch for the other restaurants. I do prefer a larger pool, and the ability to get some peace and quiet, and some shade. i wasn’t a fan of the pools here, too shallow, too busy and too unshaded. The Iberostar Tucan / Quetzal has the perfect pool and i judge harshly!! the hotel did feel crowded at time, when at full capacity. i guess this is inevitable, but i do wander if a second restaurant serving breakfast and dinner would help? I don’t get the open air thing in the main room. other hotels have open sides, but it seems utter madness in a country that has its fair share of rain, that you would effectively lose over half the capacity of the room when it rains. the white and neon parties would be a write off and while not my thing, are impressive. A couple of other observations. the doors are noisy and slam even when you’re trying to be cautious. sleep isn’t guaranteed if you’re a light sleeper like me!! There are also a lot of mosquitos about currently. Lastly, there’s very little breeze as you are set back from the beach. I’d happily return here for the right price. I love that Riu don’t nickel and dime you, however PDC has lost a lot of its charm and is not cheap anymore so likely to be a while before i’m back again. You won’t regret staying here, but balance your expectations too.

Fantastic Holiday & Resort with Amazing Staff

Just came back from a 11 night stay at the hotel. It was our 2nd RIU hotel in the Carribean area and couldn't recommend them more, Highly recommend and one of the best holiday's we have been on! The hotel is amazing and the staff are fantastic... Food is incredible and the gardens with all the wildlife definitely adds to surrounding ... Pure self indulgence, well worth a visit. Despite of the recent reviews, we found this hotel to be excellent value for the money but in terms of facilities as well. The grounds are immaculate, along with the pools and bar areas and the rooms are impecable and cleaned to a high standard. The hotel is huge yes but isnt over whelmining where you would get lost and plenty of maps and people around to help you. We loved that the rooms are in several villas, and not in massive block towers so it made it less daunting to have with rowdy guests. The pool areas, bars and whole hotel is very clean and staff and polite pleasant and helpful, Always lots of loungers around all the pools too so not trying to fight for one and having to put your towel at 7.30am to get one in true European style! There is a mix of areas to choose from, 1 main pool and a more quiet one next to the entertainment one and then a kids only area which was good! The snacks at the pool bars had plenty of choice but always had the standard stuff, all was tasty, constantly maintained and replenished and ideal if you are peckish throughout the day or simple lunch as it were. The beach was beautiful, it is only a 5-10 minute (depends on your speed) walk to the beach from the hotel, however there is a golf caddy driver who takes people down everyday which is quite amusing! Yes there is a slight seaweed issue on the beach which isnt ideal but the hotel works really hard to keep it as clean as possible so its cleared by mid morning and get to see the clear blue sea and gorgeous white sand beaches. There is a beach club with the hotel which have a lunch offering there and its the Mexican a la carte in the evening, having lunch there is a must as the view is impressive and a great way to get lost eating away the fresh food by the beach! One thing that is mentioned at the beginning but needs a more shout out is the usage of Playacar and Yukatan hotels, the pools/bars and beach areas can be used by guests from Tequila daily, you just can't eat there in the evenings but you can use all other services. Definitely worth considering if you want to mix it up! Most of the staff were very pleasant and welcoming, and always had a smile on their face! Special shout out to Laura in the restaurant, really took the time to get to know us and most days had our favourite drinks or sets drinks on the table. The food was plentiful and of an amazing quality, 4 great a la carte restaurants to choose from and Steak is a definite go to! Main restaurant had plenty of variety, dedicated Mexican station (as you would expect) but plenty of options of fresh grill options, salad bars had an abundance to choose from and fresh desserts and ice cream flavours which were rotated daily to give different options. However, there was sections for dietary specific like Gluten free etc which was great to see, they did have the staples for those who are technically challenged and can’t look beyond pizza, chicken nuggets, chips and pasta so people are sorted ;) Drinks quality were much better than a lot of places and definitely not watered down either, lots of choice of spirits, a massive variety of cocktails to choose from, with specials daily to choose and very much recommended. Entertainment in the hotel might not be to everyone's taste but the animation team do an incredible job to make it as professional as possible so kudo's to them for trying. If it doesnt float your boat there is always other ways to entertain yourself or go to the Sports Bar. They do have a couple of parties each week .. foam party during the day (great laugh) and then themed parties on a Friday night, we had the white and neon party so might be worth knowing ahead of time so you had the right attire. Both parties were extravigant and amazing, great nights overall Would definitely go back and the whole team did an amazing job to make us feel special and have an amazing holiday.

    Amazing stay

We have just returned from a brilliant stay at this hotel. Everyone working at the hotel was kind, friendly and very helpful especially Javi who was a good laugh. The hotel rooms were cleaned daily which was up to standard and had everything you required during your stay. The food at the hotel was great, there were plenty of options at the buffet or other choices of restaurants on site. The location of the hotel was excellent, the beach was a 5 minute walk away or you had the option of the buggy which came every 15 minutes. This hotel is within walking distance to the town Playa Del Carmen approx 25 minute walk (walking felt safe) Overall the pool area’s, the beach access and the entertainment was excellent we would definitely recommend to those visiting Mexico. Kennedy and Jake.

A little bit of paradise and a few good parties

Booked a last-minute package with Tui and was impressed as soon as I checked in . I told the check in man i had dietary requirements, and he said too speak to the chef and all was fine . The room i got was 2801 and to be honhest i got lost had to ask people how to get there but once I found it , I was ok . So with me being a fussy eater I went to the buffet and this buffet was better than any buffet in a European complex and I have been to quite a few . So buffet sorted is all good plenty of meat stations always rice noodles and chips for some carbs and lots of vegetables and fruit . Now only thing that I would improve is the choice of soft drinks was mostly full sugar and being diabetic i was limited to diet pepsi or soda water . So I found myself drinking Lime soda which is quite refreshing but would of liked sugar free Lemonade or some other drinks . There was also a good party called the white party going on the night I arrived which was quite good fun everybody had a good time . Also the beach is beautiful and if u go down just before 6am you will see the best sunrise ever its worth getting up just to take a picture also you might see a couple of monkeys on the way . The grounds are kept spotlessly clean and smoking is not allowed in the hotel that's a good rule and electronic cigs are banned in mexico thank God they're the worst smelling things ever . The wild life is quite good too with agouti running around and coatis wandering through the bushes give it a nice feel also seen wood peckers and the sounds of birds as you walk through the complex is amazing . It feels like your in paradise with a few nice restaurants and bars what else could you ask for . All the staff do a brilliant job and are a credit to riu . Also tui reps are there when you need in hotel ever day and even on app 24hrs I booked a day trip to tulum ruins and swim in a cenote with tui and also booked cocobongo too even though one rep told me it had sold out . The tui rep Becky managed to get me a front row ticket from tui which I am much greatful for also she had all my pepsi swapped to diet pepsi in minibar which was a nice touch . Thank you . It's all the little things that make this hotel special . The outside of hotel was nice if you take a left from hotel there was shops and market selling souvenirs and a few tours even a 7-eleven and Starbucks. To the right is 5th Avenue which is an experience of over priced goods . Selling tack at expensive prices . I mean think of it as being charged £8 for £1 items yes it is blatant and you will be offered cocaine and cannabis more than 20 times in a 10 minute stroll . I was offered massages with happy endings and coke and weed . If that's what you want then it's there but be prepared to be ripped off as your a walking cash machine to the Playas in playa del carmen . So did 5th Avenue and avoiding it like the plague after 1 visit an experience I would say but not for me . Hotel area was fine and no issues at all and felt safe so I stayed in hotel zone and beach was fantastic . Entertainment well the Friday night party is very good but nothing else really stood out apart from pacha the hotel club was good think it opened about 11pm till 3am and the 24hour sports bar was great . Being a solo traveller I met quite a few interesting people while at the sport bar it was good every body was nice and people from all over the world . I loved the coffee and the staff in sports bar are excellent . I will be returning to this hotel and thank you for having me .
