Resort is great! It's big so it attracts all kinds, some not so great.

First time to Mexico after my Cuba trip was cancelled. Traveled solo. I did A LOT of research for the right place as I think everyone should after reading reviews that clearly list what's good and what's not and are still surprised. That said. The resort is very nice. All amenities top notch. Rooms clean, beds are comfortable for the price paid. Good service at the bars, no waits for a la cartes when I went. Food quality varied at each. Italian was good. Steak house......get anything else BUT the steak option! The chinese was just ok. A lot of flavourless options. I didn't go to the Mexican option at the beach. My experience was different at the beach and pools as there were A LOT of people at both and it was hard to find a single bed although I did after a lot of searching. Resorts need to develop a better system as they say there's no reserving but frustrating to see chairs covered in towels and abandoned literally all day. Bars have a variety of drink options from a menu so there's no guessing. The bars close relatively early but the sports bar is 24 hour and convenient. They also stock a variety of snacks (burgers, dogs, burritos, sandwiches) you can heat up around the clock. No 'snack bar' open late. My only complaint I'd have and it's not the resort, it's the visitors. I know with a lot of people you will get all kinds of types but my issue was with parents of small kids. They thought it was just fine to let their kids run wild and scream anywhere they went. The grounds, the restaurants, the pools, entertainment areas. The nightly entertainment stage had a kid's component pretty early in the night that was appropriate for them. However after 9:30-10pm these kids were still left to run wild during 'adult time' with entertainment and loud music. Ther Friday night parties are pretty intense and really meant for the adult crowd. It's busy and loud music and flashing lights but parents seem to think it's ok to attend or not watch their kids. Rant over. Would I go back? Probably yes with at least one other person but the loud obnoxious families left me with a negative after leaving there. An adults only or a smaller resort may be the best for me in the future. I'm holding out that Cuba is back up and thriving next year before I make any more travel plans.

    Beautiful hotel, sad to leave

Beautiful hotel, sad to leave. All staff work so hard, everywhere is very clean. Staff speak to you at every opportunity and always have a smile. Some guests inconsiderate with loud phone calls by the pool and others choose not to care what their children are doing, swearing, shouting etc, it would be good to have the one pool as a quiet pool with no ball games etc and perhaps adults only? Entertainment by the pool if you want it, no pressure but lots to do. Plenty of beds and parasols. Drinks excellent quality and you never wait more than a couple of minutes to be served, staff are brilliant and even bring a drinks trolley to the pool. Pool towels from 8.00? To 6.00 after 6 you are given a card. Rooms cleaned daily, excellent staff. Air conditioning good as is ceiling fan, mesh outer patio door if you prefer to have a little air at night although it’s very warm. Beds very comfortable and bed linen was good, some areas slightly dated, ie shower and some paintwork, but we didn’t have a problem with this although other people might. A more powerful shower would be a welcome addition. Only tissues and shower gel/ soap provided no shampoo etc which we thought unusual compared to other RIU hotels. Safe is free. Plenty of hanging space and drawer space. Iron and ironing board provided and also an umbrella. Lots of coat hangers but they are plastic not the wooden ones you would expect from a four star hotel. No phone in room and plug sockets are limited. Rooms do pick up the noise from other rooms and some guests are not very considerate, additionally floors are not carpeted so moving chairs and heels can be heard. Chairs on the balcony and a small table along with a clothes dryer. So much wildlife, great to watch, a monkey and her baby sometimes pay a visit too, beautiful greenery, flowers etc gardeners work so hard. Food amazing, so much choice, never struggled to find a meal, excellent quality and fresh, everything really was fabulous, so much variation of other items, very extensive. Entertainment looked good although we didn’t bother with this really as we sleep early and get up early. Nice walk to beach or regular buggy with very friendly driver, beach stunning! Sargasm is sometimes present but staff work very hard to remove it, it’s nature and personally we didn’t have a problem with it. Plenty of beds and shade under the palms. Restaurant at beach great but very busy. I didn’t use the spa but the massages by the pool I thought were rather expensive and I would think you could hear people, suitcases etc going by and also pool noise, not ideal for a relaxing treatment? We loved our stay and Mexico in general and cannot wait to come back, truly wonderful place. A big thank you to ALL the RIU staff, what a superb team of people.

    Honeymoon March 2026

What an amazing place!! Me and my Wife came here for our Honeymoon from 24th March to 6th April. The hotel was spotless and the pools are amazing. But the staff really make this hotel what it is, always unbelievably helpful, always smiling and cant do enough for you! The restaurants are all fantastic the hardest part was choosing which one to go to on a night. Our favourite ended up being Bamboo! We met some amazing people and had the best time. We will 100% be back! Thank you for an amazing Honeymoon we will never forget!

    Very beautiful place!

We are here at this moment, April 1,2026 to 11. Very nice hotel and amazing staff and service. Extremely clean hotel and very good food. The only problem here is when its bed time, we have had a few good nights of sleep. But very noisy at all hours, drunk clients making noise in the rooms almost every night! Its a shame because we loved our stay, but wouldn't come back because of the noisy clients.

    Good but not perfect

Giving details of our experience. We have travelled to many Riu hotels around the world and obviously other resorts not part of the Riu chain, whilst we loved this holiday there were things I wish I had known prior to coming as a lot of the posts are positive without giving people the heads up. Rooms - following check in we were given a grainy map and our room number circled on it. It reminded me of a caravan holiday. I can't remember the last time we were not shown to our room on arrival. The rooms are in two story blocks with 8 rooms on each floor. To confuse people some are on the path and some are behind so after a long flight this can feel disoriented. We finally found our room and were really disappointed. It is like an 80s Spanish hotel. People report them being spacious, and whilst they are not small, compared to the other Riu hotels we have stayed in they are smaller and very dated. There is a bolt on the patio doors and the furniture had loose bottoms on the draws and I struggled to slide the wardrobe doors. The bedroom door would sometimes deadbolt itself whilst open meaning having to unlock it to shut the door. The shower is also not the best. The sound proofing is extremely poor, this caused many sleepless nights due to other guests coming and going and partying until 4/5/6 in the morning. There is not the array of toiletries normally found in a Riu but we don't use them so not an issue but if you come expecting them you will be disappointed. In the room there is a safe, brolly, iron, ironing board and a wall mounted hairdryer. There is a coffee machine which you can just put water through to make a cup of tea, they provide coffee. There are optics of non branded drinks (again a first of non branded for us in a Riu) and a fridge of beer and soft drinks. Restocking via the app is easy and quick and the rooms are cleaned to a good standard. However, we did have an issue with one of the sinks not draining and ended up with worm things in the sink, reported and fixed but I remain unsure if the worms were from the tap or the drain. Pool area - we spent a few days by the pool and these are not immaculate. The pool areas are not cleaned thoroughly. Also surprised the pools are not cleaned whilst closed, as they closed them during the day for cleaning. However, there are pools for all, there are plenty of beds but noticed in the second week they were reserved by 9am. There is a bar and snack bar in the centre serving all of the pools. A man walks around them with a trolley serving drinks and usually another with a note pad taking orders which is great but this is the only drinks waiter service outside of the restaurant. Again, this is very different to other Riu we have stayed in. The beach - spent more days here. The sand is beautiful. The seaweed was extremely bad on our first day and I was worried this would prevent me using the beach. However, that was the only day it was that bad. The hotel work tirelessly against this natural phenomenon which is relentless. There was always some because it's impossible to eradicate but doesn't spoil the experience and the sea is warm and great fun. The only downside of the beach is the lack of shade. It is provided by the palm trees and because shade is sought after, normal rules go out of the window and people squeeze in to share the shade ....... prepare to get cosy. Entertainment - it's from the start of the day to the end of the day. They work so hard. They even walk around the beach doing "lazy games" that you can do from your sunbed. The evening entertainment is hit and miss on the quality but there is always something going on. Food- we enjoyed the food. We tried all of the restaurants. Bamboo was our favourite. The black cow is popular. The main restaurant has a flavour of all. Drink - there are some branded drinks in the bar but you need to ask. A shout out to the sports bar who multitask on orders to an art. When the parties are hosting, extra bars are created. We liked the iced coffee, if you have been to other Riu you may know it as a 'dirty monkey'. Grounds- each hotel seems to have a different vibe, playa car seems quieter with more manicured gardens. Yucatan has more natural gardens with lively daytime entertaining. Riu, where we were, is definitely more natural in it's setting than manicured. Lots of trees and natural habitat for the wildlife. Overall, we loved our stay (room aside) Mexico has been a blast and I am glad we came, however, for what the holiday cost and how far we travelled, I will try somewhere new next time. If I was to return to Mexico would I come back to Tequila???? Who knows.
