Riu Santa Fe - Don’t go there
Resort: Went to Riu Santé Fe in January 2023. The resort is very large and generally clean. The beach pools provide great views of Lands End and the Cabo marina. There were cruise ships daily so sometimes the view was blocked. Whales could be seen frolicking frequently. Rooms: The rooms are average. We asked for king size beds and were provided 2 double beds push’s together. Not very comfortable and the pillows provided were small and way to soft. Housekeeping was done early every day bar was stocked with beer and mixes. Plenary of bottled water each day. Needed to ask for towels a few times. We are situated in building 7 which is the closest to the beach ( but farthest from the majority of the restaurants ) We were there for 2 weeks and the fire alarm/ strobe lights were activated 5 times over the period. ( times ranged between midnight and 6 am. Each time followed by a very load Spanish announcement. All of the alarms were false. On a few days there was lukewarm water for showers Entertainment: We saw the ABBA show one night in my opinion it was not very good. The show was choppy and, it seemed, incomplete We also saw the circus show again not great the highlight was the contorsionniste Most days there is a Riu party in the pool behind building 4. ( I think). It starts in the afternoon or early evening and can go late. Load music can be heard throughout building 7 and probably any building close. The entertainment is nowhere near the level that you find at Riu club Negril or at the palace tropical Restaurants: There are 2 restaurants that are à la carte. Thé Kulinarium, provided a glass of pink “champagne “ on entry I ordered the tenderloin, it melted in my mouth followed by a brownie dessert that was excellent. Service was good Melani was bubbly and quick. Shayla brought to cappuccino when I asked for raw sugar she practically ran over to the Buffett to get some. The steak house at the beach was the other full a la carte it features chicken , rib eye steak, salmon and a mixture plate for 2. Food was good and service also good but when you order the rib eye make sure they have it … one night they substituted it for an overcooked strip loin. The steak house doubles as a buffet during the day. If you have a special request such as decafe coffee you will be told they have none. Ask for Ricardo he is the supervisor and he will bring your request. Final words: If you are over 30 don’t go. If you have very young children don’t go. The resort is noisy load noises in hallway every night. As a result of the fire alarm going off we became complacent. The first night we started out and we’re met by people coming in saying it was a false alarm. The next time we just looked outside to see If people were out. Subsequent times we stayed in bed. Because of this I would consider the hotel unsafe and potentially dangerous if there was really an emergency we would ignore it.
Not very good
Unfortunately, we will not go back here. The food was not good, all buffet. If you want to order the entree off a menu you have to stand in line for an hour like cattle. No reservations and even when we tried to get in we were turned away because they were full of cattle. The alcohol brands were something that you buy at a gas station. The place said it was adults only. It is not, it was crawling with kids. Housekeeping routinely failed to restock coffee and towels. One night we woke to a horrible smell of sewage which persisted into the next day. The location is nice and the facilities were generally in good shape. The staff were friendly.
Just spent 2 weeks there. Last here July 2010. Expansion is probably good but “too big” for us. There is a tax of $500. Peso that should have been included in price not thrown at you at reception. Very noisy at night with parties and slamming doors. Smoking (even marajjana) is allowed everywhere! Not good. Cigarette buts all ever. Since ashtrays were removed, smokers just butt their cigarettes in pool deck. There is music played at beach pool and upper pool. Enjoyable till another group decide to bring boombox down and outplay pool music. Inconsiderate. Cleaning services are good but re-stocking rooms with coffee and water, not so. Great “Party” resort but not great for small children with families. The standard room gives you 2 - 3/4 pushed together. Not queens! Believe with suite you get a king bed. Don’t think we’ll be back as too old to party.
If you’re looking for a quiet relaxing vacation this is not the place in my opinion. The food is good and the facility is clean and well kept. If you want quiet stay away from any room that backs or faces the pool party pool. The music is loud every second night of the week. Most of the nightly entertainment was kid oriented. Lots of seating around the pools. Someone pulled a fire alarm late at night
3rd time at the Riu
This was my 2nd stay at the Santa Fe, stayed at the Palace last year. Overall I think I prefer the palace because you have access to the Santa Fe if you stay there and can go back and forth when you feel like it. Santa Fe guests don’t have access to the palace. If you wanna let loose and party this is definitely a popular resort. They have themed pool parities that are lots of fun as well as a small night club. I saw some families at the resort but if I was coming with young children then I would book the palace over Santa Fe. People complain about the food but I don’t really know what they are expecting. To us the food was fine. Huge selection for breakfast and dinner at the buffet. We always found something we liked. Drinks were also fine as well. We didn’t go to any of the actual restaurants but friends said they were good. Our room was really nice as well. The renovations are beautiful. The staff was super friendly and nice to us. A few bartenders were very busy and maybe slightly rude but overall everyone was great. Entertainment staff is wonderful. Lots of things going on all day and night. Download the Riu app and then you have a schedule of all the activities for when you are there. Would definitely come back!
