Oct 22, 2026Thin walls - noisy
The walls here are so thin you can hear people having conversations next door, hear the hairdryers nearby, hear people chatting while they wait for the lift, hear kids running up and down the hallways and best of all you can hear it all at 6am. While the location is convenient i won’t be back and I’d suggest a different hotel is worth paying extra for.

My family and I stayed here on our first visit to New York, it’s excellently situated near Times Square and easy to get to all the main places to visit in Manhattan. Very clean, friendly efficient staff and the buffet breakfast is varied, good quality and tasty. We wouldn’t hesitate to book here the next time we visit NY.

Oct 21, 2026Fantastic Stay & Unbeatable Location!
We stayed at the Riu Plaza hotel at the beginning of October and had a fantastic week overall. From the moment we arrived, check-in was quick and easy, and our bags were taken straight to our room. We were initially offered a lower floor as no higher floor rooms were available, with the option to move the next day, but as we didn't plan to spend much time in the room, we were happy to stay where we were. The biggest positives were definitely the rooms and the location. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable, and larger than we've experienced in many other NYC hotels. The location was perfect for us, right by Times Square and within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and many attractions. We know some people recommend staying away from Times Square, but we've visited New York before and love being in the middle of the atmosphere and excitement. There was also a handy little cafe/shop in the hotel which was great for grabbing something quickly in the morning or late at night. The main drawbacks were the lifts and breakfast service. Unfortunately, the lift situation was exactly as many other reviews describe. In the mornings, waits could be incredibly long. On one occasion we waited 25 minutes for a lift, and another day nearly 30 minutes. Being on a lower floor sometimes made it worse because the lifts were often already full before they reached us. During the rest of the day and evening we had no issues, but mornings were particularly frustrating. Breakfast was also very crowded. By the time you queued for the lift, queued again to be seated, and then waited for food to be replenished, a large chunk of the morning had disappeared. We stayed for six days and only had breakfast twice because we felt it was taking too much time out of our morning. If breakfast hadn't been included in our booking, we probably wouldn't have used it after the first day. We did receive mixed messages from staff regarding alternatives when the lifts were busy. One member of staff told us there were no staffs we could use and advised us to call reception and they could send the service lift if we'd been waiting a long time, but when we tried this later we were told this wasn't possible. Eventually, other guests showed us a staircase that allowed us to leave the building. Better communication would make a huge difference. Despite these issues, the positives outweighed the negatives. The rooms were excellent, the location was unbeatable, and most staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We would happily stay here again, although we'd probably skip breakfast next time. A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location that just needs to improve the morning lift and breakfast experience.

Great comfortable stay.
Just spent a week at this hotel and very much enjoyed our stay. It’s perfectly placed just outside Times Square which is a 2 minute walk from the main entry and only a 5 minute walk to the nearest subway station. The rooms are kept spotless by the housekeeping staff, the room has air conditioning and a comfortable bed, with shower and toilet, despite the closeness to Times Square it was nice and quiet in the room. The dining room staff do a brilliant job at managing breakfast waiting lines, between 7 and 10am they seat over a thousand people for the breakfast sitting, the longest wait we had was around 10 minutes to get seated. The reception staff were great, professional and informative. The staff in the grab and go area serve up drinks, sandwiches and a few hot dishes on a menu, they have a happy hour between 4 and 8 pm were prices are reduced. Special mentions to Kenneth and Lamine who served us and took time to talk with us, they are a credit to the hotel. Check out was seamless and the hotel provided a ride back to JFK for a very reasonable price slightly more than a yellow cab but by far more comfortable. Basically a three star hotel Room furnishings look like they are from Ikea, uncomfortable desk, desk chair and lounge chair. Mattress mediocre. Room flooring is cheesy luxury vinyl plank. The gym is substandard/ The front desk staff is rude and most people don't speak English very well. I would never stay again. The other Riu (times square) is much nicer at a similar price
