Absolutely loved this resort! It’s a smaller resort, quieter and more low key than others. It’s organized into eight 3-story buildings with the theatre and restaurants on one end and the pools, beach and another restaurant on the other. The location is incredible, across the street from a plaza with vendors, shops, coffee shop, bars that are open late. Playacar itself is a residential neighborhood that is super walkable. It’s a 10 min drive into downtown playa del Carmen. The rooms are clean, very spacious and conveniently laid out. It was not super crowded so finding a spot by the pool was never an issue. The food options are plentiful and delicious- from western fare to more traditional Mexican dishes. The a la cart restaurants were really great- especially the Italian! The entertainment was high quality - nightly shows, live performances, pool and beach activations. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Would 100% return here!!!!

Above expectations
We had never stayed at a RIU resort before. The grounds were exceptionally clean. The rooms were very, clean. The food and drinks were wonderful. The staff were very kind and helpful. The pools are clean and warm. The beach was incredible. Would definitely stay there again.

The food was great, the drinks were great! I enjoyed the pool 10/10. I loved the short walk to the ocean.

1st time at Riu
1st time at Riu in Mexico and it was so much fun! Friendly staff, cleanliness rooms, good food. Would recommend!

Amazing March Break week spent here!
My family and myself (2 kids ages 7 and 10) stayed here March 8–15 and had an amazing time! In short, the hotel is clean (constant maintenance being done), food is excellent, pool is fun and clean, drinks are excellent and staff are very friendly. Also loved how the hotel wasn’t too big. It was easy to get around everywhere. We had an amazing time! Fridays are Neon/white party (alternate weeks) where everyone goes to the Riu Tequila across the street. That was fun! Food was sooo yummy. Something for everyone. Some A La Cartes were packed and we were told it would be a 30-40 minute wait so we just went to the buffet. Overall, the food was amazing! We were so pleased. Entertainment was okay. They did your standard dance/singing nights - Queen, Michael Jackson, international show…we wished there was a variety night that got the audience involved. Always a lot of laughs there. Also wish they had something for kids 7-12 range. They didn’t want to do the kids stuff because it’s “babyish” but the entertainment wasn’t all that exciting for them either. Overall, a great time was had and we would recommend this resort to anyone!
