Pools are lovely, beach is not the greatest !
The Hotel is beautiful and very clean. We were greeted with a welcome drink when we arrived. The weather was phenomenal the entire week we were there. Pools clean, staff excellent . The beach , being on the pacific , was not the greatest. Not a white sandy beach or crystal clear water. Sand is black and scorching hot!! Wear sandals!! The water is warm but rocky with jelly fish.. But the beach is clean and you can walk for miles! Found a great little restaurant to eat just down the beach into town. I felt safe and wasn’t bothered by vendors except just the once with the locals and horse rides on the beach. Yes they do have horses for rent on the beach. You can rent kayaks which we did it was included in the all inclusive price . The food was pretty good and plenty of it . They do have shows every night and was a little loud but not too bad . I would stay here again if I were to go back to Panama. I don’t know if I would as I love the Caribbean water so much. But it was another adventure and so happy we got to experience it.

Great stay
I loved my stay at this hotel. The place was very clean, with a lot of personnel working on making sure everything stayed clean. The food was great too at the buffet, while in the restaurants it was average in general except for a few select items thats were good. I would definately recommend to go at Riu Playa Blanca if you dont give too much tought on a great beach and nice blue water, because it was not the strength of this place. If you look for a nice place with great food however, you should definately give the Riu Playa Blanca a try

Not what was advertised- 3 star tops
Good: Staff are lovely, Drinks were good Bad: Beach is public and water not swimmable - debris, stingrays, horse poop and stinky. Horse people harassing vacationers endlessly. Food: very little variety and not very good Room: needs major updates and was not clean upon arrival. Squashed bugs, dusty and marks on walls, dirty coffee bar/drink bar, fridge not working Ugly: overall this resort is 3 star - tops Advertising as a 5 star is just ridiculous

Not a 5 star
I just got back from the riu playa blanca and I have to say I was very disappointed. I have traveled to many all inclusive, ranging from 3 star to 5. This place was not a 5 star as advertised. We arrived in our room, very dated which was not a big deal however the corners of the rooms were dirty and the beds have stains on the mattresses as well as stains on the walls and the fridge did not work. The beach is definetely not blanca which means white. It is dark grey, the water was also dark brown. I have been on the pacific side before and knew it wasn't the same as the gulf ,I don't remember it being this bad. It rained so there was a run off going into the ocean , garbage and all .Also there are several locals on horses harassing us on the beach to take a ride. The horses look healthy however the beach is riddled with horse poop, cannot walk barefoot. Also there are several dogs running free on the beach that did not look healthy it was very very sad.The food was comperable to a 3 star hotel in cuba. Except that it was not clean . The chips in the sports club heater was so dirty the glass filthy and bugs in the chips. The cappucinos and alcohol drinks were delicious and grounds are well maintained and the staff are very nice and helpful. Panama city excursions was also great. I love staying at Riu s however this one I would never go back to. I spoke to the sunwing rep and told him about the room and his very quick response ( which tells me that I wasn't the first to complain) that this was not a riu palace.

Maybe look into other resorts….
We came here on an award my husband received from work so we did not pick the location. I wanted to give 2 stars but settled on the 3 my husband wanted. 1. Location - you are 2 to 2-1/2 hours from Panama City so excursions make for a loooong day. 2. Horrible Internet. Constantly going out on us, TV reception on the hotel room TV very grainy and bad picture. 3. The room. We are attaching a few pics of trouble spots but bottom line is the hotel is in a beautiful area but is badly dated, at least our room was, which was an ocean view room so we kind of expected better. Mold around AC, AC temp you can’t really control, toilet runs randomly, bathroom door sticks badly, realized on 3rd day you could just basically push our room door open from the hall, stains that we’re not sure of….maybe blood, hopefully food? 4. Found out AFTER arriving that due to the protests, on our departure date, they would need to leave the hotel at FOUR AM! Our flight is 3:45 PM. We ended up booking an excursion through another provider for the day before our departure and also booked a different hotel near the airport for our last night. 5. Food is decent - no complaints. We’re in an all-inclusive so we do not expect 5-star. 6. Staff - most are extremely helpful and nice EXCEPT for those we asked for assistance in booking an excursion. We seemed to be interrupting them and keeping them from doing something else. Not impressed and not appreciated. We ended up booking our excursion through a different provider that has a table set up past the lobby. Bottom line, the hotel is dated and in desperate need of cleanup. You may want to shop around a bit before booking the Riu.
