Pretty good for a Family Resort
Great resort! The food was good and the entertainment as well. We rented a car and drove to Panama City very nice and very safe. The resort is 2.5 hours away and isn't close to much. There is no bank machine at the resort which is odd. There is a designated smoking area at the beach no smoking on the balconies. The rooms are nice and clean- our A/C wasn't great but we were hardly in the room.

Our First Panamá Trop
Great beach, lots of pool activities. Rooms are ok (not fancy). Room service was not provided every day. 3 restaurants were not open every day. Food choices are plain and simple, limited. Customer service is good.

Not that great
The lobby and property grounds are beautiful. I was blown away when we pulled up to the property. The front desk staff was really nice and helpful but the rest of the staff was not as friendly. I stayed at a Riu in Jamaica and the staff there was always happy, cheerful and upbeat. At this property it seems like you're bothering everyone if you need something or have a question. No one ever came to ask us if we needed anything when we sat in the buffet section and we had to hunt down staff for coffee or mimosas. The bartenders throughout the property were great however. The rooms are pretty disgusting (at least ours was and we had an ocean view)...especially for this property to only be 9 years old. I saw various reviews about this but chose to take a chance bc the property in Jamaica was really nice. There were spiders and webs on the ceilings, the bathroom mirror was damaged and no amount of cleaning can fix the issues. The tub is nasty. There were ants all over the dresser upon check in. Everything is weathered. It needs to be renovated. I felt dirty the entire stay. Please upgrade and clean your rooms. It's super misleading to see such a nice lobby and pictures of nice rooms online but then get there and experience dirty looking rooms. I felt that the staff took pride in keeping the property clean and well kept but the room was just a problem. The entertainment was great and I love the music. The food was okay at the buffet but the on-site restaurants had much better tasting food. There weren't many tour or excursion options due to location but we were able to get a ride down the road to a nice relaxing beach front restaurant that we really enjoyed. We also took advantage of the onsite jetski and tubing which was fun and the staff for that was great also. The beach at this property was very spacious and really nice and had plenty of seating without crowding. It had a lot of space as well. They do need new beach chairs as theirs are dirty and stained. Overall it was okay.

Great help from Amarilys and Emmanuelle at front desk.
Got great help from both. They're quite patient and tried to help. We just checked in two days ago. So far, the experience is good. Kudos to both of them. Everything else is good so far. Unless things change drastically, I think this whole stay is going to be very nice.

Inconsistent
Stayed at Riu Dubai and Aruba which were enjoyable. Riu Playa Blanca Panama not so much. This was the worst hotel experience I have had in my 50 years of travel. Buffet and Restaurants were horrible. Food spoiled tasteless Over cooked and over salted. Waitress service non existent. Housekeeping even worse. No toilet paper and towels for 3 days They said they ran out. They shut the AC off and Hallway lights in the whole resort for 4 hrs during 2am-6am. Making it 80 degrees plus in the rooms. Couldn’t sleep. Bed sheets were stained. MOLD in the bathrooms. Reception phones are always busy. During weekends hotel overrun with locals making noise till 4 am. I will never stay at a RIU again.
