Spectacular
Our group of 8 just returned from the Riu Playa Blanca last week and it was spectacular. The beach is amazing, the black lava sand makes it magical, and also very hot (since its so close to the equator) so make sure you bring beach shoes. You can walk 2.5 kilometers one way on the beach and about half a kilometer in the other direction, its perfect for nice walks. The resort is spotless, someone is always cleaning everywhere you go. The food is incredible, and plenty of choices. The bartenders go out of their way to make sure you have your drink exactly as you like it. The ocean is warm and you can walk right out into the water, but the Pacific ocean has to be respected, the rip tides can get a little aggressive. The rooms are spacious and housekeeping is right no top of anything you need. We did have an issue getting coffee in our rooms every day, so we just called the front desk and they brought it right up. At times the resort got pretty busy and you could see some of the management staff jump in and help, to me, this shows how much they care about the travelers that are there and it was really nice to see. We will defiantly be going back again next year.

Difficult to REACH the hotel but was nice
First time in Panama, my husband and I reserved this hotel but we never thought about how to get there from Panama City. I contacted TAMARA +50763242898 recommended by a friend of us who was in Panama last year. She was so kind and arranged a transportation just for us from our hotel in Panama city. When we get the Riu Hotel was nice, good food and friendly staff. What we loved the most was the pasta and the coctails at the pool. But we wanted to know the area around so we talked to Tamara who organized 2 unforgettable visits: Anton Valley with nice hiking and montains and the YAYAS waterfall. That way we could enjoy the hotel and also, see other places around. I am dominican but my husband just speaks English, but, no problem at all, the driver David, spoke English all the way and was really nice to us. If you go to this hotel, be aware that you need transportation from the capital and you need to find your own activities. However, if you want just to enjoy the resort is 100% recommended.

Panama Riu Playa Blanca;)!
3rd time at this resort in Playa Blanca at the Riu!:) We really love it here! The hotel is very well maintained, the food selection is really good, & the staff make it that more Special!:) Rosa in the buffet, Jose and his brother Donny at the bars, Luisana Dirección Hotel Riu Playa Blanca.. What an amazing team!We keep coming back year after year because of all this.:)January, February & March are the months we prefer.:) always sunny and Hot!I only mentioned a few names.. but ALL the staff were amazing. The airport is only 10-15 minutes away from the hotel.. there is nothing at the airport unfortunately.. so a piece of advice bring 1 or 2 tupperware to pack a small meal for your flight.. because.. the sunwing flight we were on did not serve any meals for a 6 hr flight:(! Also.. the beach sand is VERY HOT.. so bring some beach shoes to walk into and out of the ocean:) All in All.. it was a perfect stay:)! Enjoy

A good 3 star resort - DO NOT RIDE HORSES on the beach!
This was a 4 night trip with a big group of friends. We flew into Rio Hato airport and it was very quick ride to hotel. We had done online check in but line to get keys was still a bit long. We had ocean view room on second floor. It was view of pool and ocean in distance. The room was clean but run down. Hotel is very dated and run down in general but it appeared to be clean. Grounds are beautiful and well kept. Beach was big with lots of palm trees. Note that this beach is on the Pacific Ocean so don’t come here expecting turquoise water and white sand. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT RIDE THE HORSES ON THE BEACH!!!! It’s obvious these animals are being exploited and are in very bad shape. People paying to ride them is the reason they bring them to the beach everyday. If people stopped paying to ride them they would stop exploiting them at the beach. So it’s the people who ride them that are causing this cruelty :( the horses also poop all over the beach. Food was ok - I am vegan and eating rice, beans, guacamole and veggies was fine for the 4 days. If you ask in advance they can make vegan lasagna at Italian restaurant. The Asian restaurant had veggie rolls and veggie stir fry. Overall we had a good vacation because of the group we were with and the hotel staff are kind and work so hard. Please tip them if you can. The resort was good for our group trip as we just wanted to party and drink. I would not recommend it for a quiet romantic vacation.
