    Best Beach Ever

BEACH: Let’s get right to it… the 100% best part of this resort and the reason I’m a return customer 21 years after my first visit. It’s gorgeous… crystal clear. Reminds me of Exuma and Boracay, Philippines. Complete perfection! There are beach vendors but they aren’t overly pushy and will walk along if you politely say you’re not interested. ENTERTAINMENT: We enjoyed the entertainment crew both during the day and at night. They do a really great job and provided lots of laughs! HOTEL: Nice, modern, clean. Housekeeping does a nice job. I like the separation between the adult and kid pools. The beds were weird. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and the beds were strangely small sizes… I felt like all 4 of us were sharing one big bed! FOOD: Meh… we didn’t starve, but none of us really enjoyed it all that much. We like doing sit down restaurants on our all inclusive trips and that was a bust here. Very limited menu options and not great quality. We found that our best bet was the buffet… and even that was…. Just ok, even for an all inclusive buffet. I believe my daughter got salmonella poisoning from the buffet, although we can’t confirm with 100% certainty. We did LOVE the jerk chicken each day - by far the food highlight of every day. DRINKS: I totally regret not bringing a reusable straw. A few times at bars even after requesting a paper straw, I was told no. This seems like a small complaint, but this is the first time at an all inclusive I’ve been to where they don’t have bars inside each restaurant. If you want a mixed drink at dinner- you have to walk to the main bar to get one yourself. PHOTOS: This was annoying to me… we did the photoshoot, which we didn’t ask for but then the manager of the photo selection area said it was fine… no pressure, etc. But then when we only selected 2 to buy he got kind of grumpy with us. STAFF: Most work so hard and are very friendly… we enjoyed our conversations during this trip! Andre at the restaurant was great!

Recent Stay at Riu Tropical Bay

This was our second time to Riu Tropical Bay. We arrived early around 12:30 room not available until after 3pm said over and over it was being cleaned. Was in room at 3:40pm. Rooms are nice and when it is cleaned, good job. However, one day with no explanation, nothing was done to our room, had to call Room Service for fresh towels and soap. Beach area is the best part of vacation and where we stayed. Meals, we have had the specialty resturants before and decided to stick to buffet. Big selection of food. Most was overcooked and meat was tough and dry. Salad was always missing lettuce exccept for one night so it was a cabbage salad most nights. Service is very good, however, at meals. The bggest disappointment is this place has really got a "ghetto vibe" at meals and around pools. Loud, skimpy dressed people who should not be wearing a bikini of any type. Screaming and yelling and letting their kids to the same if they even pay attention to their kids. Dress code is no longer enforced at meal time. Last year, my husband was told he had to wear sleeves...not so any more. Sickening while eating. Felt like we were at a Golden Corral, loud groups of obnoxious people eating on their way back from the buffet to their seats. We will not be back.

First and Definitely NOT the Last Trip to Jamaica

First trip to Jamaica with family and it was honestly amazing! I can see why people love coming to Jamaica. Here are my most honest pros and cons of this place in my opinion: Pros: - great location with the clearest beach (nice long and windy stretch of beach comparable to the white, sandy beaches of Cuba, but with more sea life) - great selections of tropical drinks (and very generous with their alcohol) - 24/7 lounge - very clean facilities with the friendliest staff - access to other RIUs as well - entertainment staff was approachable, warm and welcoming - shows and after party were great and varied (i.e., white night, water ballet, steel drums, international show, Michael Jackson tribute etc...) - rooms were well updated and modern - Food was outstanding and varied (always tasted fresh and seasoned well) - jerk chicken hut is awesome on the beach - Loved the marine life that surrounded us all the time (saw starfishes, different white fish, baby swordfish, stingrays) - Walked along the entire shoreline of Bloody Bay and this location is the best of all places along there - the swimming area is shallow that everyone of all ages and abilities can wade through and enjoy the water - THE SUNSETS ARE AMAZING HERE Cons: - the ride from Montego Bay airport to the hotel is quite far (about 2 hours including traffic) and quite bumpy at times (but the end destination is so worth it) - rooms could be a little more clean - the main bar could get a little crowded at night and sometimes felt a little excluded and forgotten - the app to get reservations for restaurants is hard to book through. The restaurant servers were not very friendly or happy. - restaurant booking times are only 6:30 pm or 8:15 pm

Great experience for families or large groups.

An honest review.... RIu Palace The hotel itself is beautiful. The beach is crystal clear & amazing. The swim up bar and service spectacular. Seville is very entertaining with his toast's and shots. The drinks here are made strong so pace yourself. Bring a cup. Rooms are very spacious, with a couch for sitting, tv, and nice size veranda. They are renovating in September I hope this is not going away. You get a fully stocked bar, a housecoat, body soap shampoo conditioner, hair dryer, the amenities are outstanding. There's also room service 24 hours a day. The buffet and restaurants We ate the same exact thing for five days, it was delicious, but boring. Grilled chicken, steak, duck some nights, same sides, pasta bar, JA bar, etc. The stew beef is really good. We did have oxtails one night, but they were gone so fast I didn't get any. The Japanese, my friends waited an hour after being seated to get a glass of wine, almost another hour for the food that was brought out on an ice cold plate. The sushi tasted old. The steak house is great, but again slow. We sat down at 8pm. Wasn't served our food until 10. Italian was also good I was told. There is both a daiquiri bar, and a snack bar. The snack bar offers food 24 hours a day If you get hungry in the middle of the night. There is a spa although I didn't use it. The entertainment team is AMAZING. JC, Advance, the whole team.... Love them!!! We loved the shows, and games all day long. however, children were at the adult bar all night, Rimshot played reggae a couple of nights. Very good, Dj is MUCH better than my last visit. After 12am, everything is shut down, there is nothing for adults to do. Everything closes. There is a nightclub in town, the jungle. Go with a group, usually a shuttle out front that will take you and bring you back. It's a local place so if you want to see them culture, and how they party this is the place! If you're going to buy souvenirs, there is a store on site. However, if you walk down to tent row, and hang with the locals at the bar down there. Amazing food and music. The prices are half the cost of that inside the hotel for your souvenirs. You can also take a taxi in town and go shopping, see the Rick's Cafe and other places famous for Negril. Taxi is usually around $10 each direction.
