Just stayed 5 days with friend and our two 22 and 23 yr old daughters. Bad things first: We had a problem with the airport transportation since they didn’t have my friend’s listed. Others had the same problem and ended up taking an $80 taxi which was reimbursed. So call to make sure they have you listed! Then they tried to give us a king size bed instead of two doubles so we had to get that switched. The shuttle back to the airport had us sitting in the van for 25 min before it left and then we had to pick up others. Our flight was delayed so we weren’t stressed though. Lastly the girls said the food was disgusting and didn’t eat much. Now the good things! Workers constantly cleaning, gardening, entertaining, waiting, helping…. The Coco Bongo trip thru the hotel was awesome! For the regular admission price we got to sit in the VIP section right next to the stage! Our girls had a blast! Michelle in the activity crew was awesome! And they all spoke perfect English. PS: The main pool was warm and the beach was great! We loved our stay! Highly recommend!
My wife and I have started giving each other a January vacation as our primary Christmas gifts to each other and we've stay here the past 2 years. What a wonderful stay it is! The hotel is immaculately kept to include the grounds. The staff is always busy, but never to busy to assist you in whatever you require. Liz made our check in easy. If you're poolside or beachside, see Adrian, Cruz or Bruno. They make a fine Bloody Maria! Our room was kept immaculate again by Leonardo! Love the staff. The food is plentiful and tasty.
Wife’s birthday trip
Very nice, clean and beautiful resort. As a couple, have been to Cancun area over a dozen times in the last 10 years. First time at this resort- picked it because I googled “all inclusive in Cancun with heated pool” (since it is January). Disappointed that there are 4 beautiful pools, but not heated. Water temp was fair, but just not what I had hoped for. Many good things to say- clean and very beautiful, inside and outdoors, well staffed, plenty of bar locations, nightly 9:30 show in theater, multiple dining options. A few negatives (in no particular order) : room was spacious and beautiful, but no privacy in tub, sinks, or bath area if you were not traveling as a couple. TV has 60 channels, but only 3 English news channels, nothing for entertainment in English. Buffet area was gigantic, many choices and food very good, but the 4-5 speciality restaurants were fairly small capacity and no reservations- lengthy wait time at prime times. Not as many daily activities as we are used to like maybe a wine tasting class, craft class, or similar fun things (corn hole boards maybe). Beach area smaller than other resorts, but was clean. Special shout-out to Liz at check-in desk. She made my wife’s birthday really special- decorated room, champagne and strawberries, towel art, and dinner in couples only venue. For the overall value we would return, but just did not rank on top of our list compared to a few other resorts we have used.
The Perfect Reset
Riu Peninsula is the perfect place to reset from a hectic and stressful daily life. Since it is an all inclusive resort everything you want is one place and the hardest decision you make is when asked, “What cocktail would you like?” (I recommend the Hemingway during the day and an Irish or Spanish coffee while watching shows after dinner.) The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, making sure you’re well cared for, sometimes with out even asking! (I’m looking at you gentleman who pops open an umbrella over everyone on the beach!) The beach has the fine, white sand and turquoise waters we all crave in the winter. The food is perfect even for a foodie traveler’s palate in the dinner restaurants and there’s always some great find on the buffet, though I liked it better when it changed themes nightly. There was never a wait in any restaurant other than the steak one and to watch that staff of chefs and waiters serve 60 diners that were sat at the same time was remarkable. My meal at both Krystal and the private adults-only restaurant, (Try the fish over mashed casaba for one of the tastiest bites you’ll eat.), were the best meals I’ve eaten in Mexico. The shows with outside talent were quality entertainment. The negatives? The beds are as hard as rocks! And if you decide to get a VIP room in the adults-only section and go to bed early, do not get a room in building 1. It’s right over the music stage. Though sitting in your outside hot tub and listening to live tunes is very enjoyable. The entertainment staff was less talented than in the past and they did much fewer activities this time. Gone are the nighttime beach party and any activities on the beach. And while the staff could sing ABBA tunes, they were terribly off key for the Queen show, which should be dropped from the rotation. Most importantly, the staff lead was very week and any time he was on the mic, everything was garbled.
Great Vacation at Riu Palace Peninsula
Overall this was one of the most relaxing trips I have had in years. The food was fantastic. The entertainment was really good. We upgraded our hotel room and were very pleased. The room was kept very clean and the fridge was stocked daily. The only complaint I had was the room keys. At least once a day they had to be reactivated to enter the room. Also the bed was extremely hard.
