Mar 03, 2026Absolute WORST customer service experience ever.
Front desk staff was the worst I've ever experienced. Not only are they rude, they're unable to solve simple problems. Wouldn't let me cover tax fees with cash or another card. Wanted me to cancel the whole thing and re-book. We also arrived early and were told we couldn't use the pool or any other amenities. Been to Cancun countless times and this was by far the worst experience. Rooms have small "double" beds. One outlet works in the entire room.

Bad customer service and loud music
Bad customer service, especially by front desk and rude manager on duty. Refused to correct a mistake they did with our room assignments. Horrible extremely loud party music continuing late in the night - “Riu Party” is a nightmare, not a feature.

Food Poisoning trip to hospital
My grown daughter and I went to Cancun Mexico Feb 14-21. Stayed at RUI Palace Peninsula. Feb 16 th daughter had awful vomiting and diarrhea had an IV at hospital, after main buffet. Feb 18 th went to Italiano buffet and got food poisoning ended up at hospital. $1,000 Canadian each for IV. Plus one time payment of $225 USD for hotel Doctor. All staff was great except 2 female managers who just didn’t care. Room was great. Beach very rocky.

Feb 28, 2026Renovations have begun 2 months early
Just returned from Cancun and the RIU Palace Pennisula. Was there February 23 a February 27. The website states that the hotel will be closing for renovations beginning in April 2026 thru July 2026 so we didn’t bother to change our hotel selection. I would recommend that if you have a trip booked for this hotel before April to change now. They have already started renovations and have zero concern for its guests. They are running jack hammers in the elevator shafts on both sides of the hotel from 9am-5pm everyday. In the lobby area, the piano bar area, the main gathering spots before dinner are uninhabitable during this time of day because the sound is deafening from the jack hammers. They are building wood door entries for one of the three elevators on each floor and the hammering is non-stop. There is no place you can be inside the hotel other than the main buffet between 9-5 including your room for a nap due to the jack hammering. The spa area would be a waste of money because it is extremely loud there. Tourists are spending thousands of dollars to take these trips and this hotel will show no concern for your loss. Management does not care despite the many comments they received during our trip not only from us but many other guests as well. My wife and I have stayed at this hotel three other times and have always enjoyed this resort but this experience has made us say we will never stay here again. I am hoping others that stayed during this timeframe leave a review also but I highly advise you to avoid booking this resort if you’re looking for a peaceful trip leave to relax.

Good and Bad
We went as a family trip February 2026. Two rooms separated by a lockable tiny hallway one for the kids and one for us which was very handy. Really nice that they offer this. Normally not the A.I. types but with two teens we wanted the easy button for a winter break. The Good: The service here is top notch. Everyone was very accommodating, the bar staff are great, housekeeping was very good, can't complain one thing about the staff, even right before they are going to shut down for a huge renovation they were still out cleaning and painting areas that needed it. The outdoor areas are nice, though a little worn out but i'm sure that will all be corrected with the reno. It's just old but completely fine. The layout of the outdoor spaces is lovely and you don't have to travel a mile like some Cancun area resorts to get where you want to be. The beach area is pleasant and quiet. You can easily find available chairs and again the drink service is great. The Bad I really hope they fix these things and some i'm sure they will. The lobby area is bright! The lighting is harsh and not sexy at all. The rooms... harsh lighting, tiny TV's, chipped paint, just worn out. It's barely hangin on! lol The food... just bad. This is the big one. We didn't expect great things from an A.I. but wow. The breakfast buffet was fine, though they don't need to have so much stuff! Don't have pasta salad and everything known to man for breakfast... Chill out and focus on 50 good items instead of 200 mid to bad items. The restaurants were a huge disappointment. The steakhouse was just a buffet converted into a "restaurant" with dull knives and barely edible beef. The Italian don't bother... clearly frozen hard pasta, swimming in gross fluid. The Italian was the one inedible one for all 4 of us (including teenagers). The Japanese was fine. No real complaints. Decent food there. We ended up eating lunch most days at the pool burger bar which had good fresh grilled burgers. Hot dogs were inedible and it looked pretty messy and hard to access the toppings making a mess all over but the burgers were legit. Best item in the whole place which is pretty sad. Excited to see what it could become after the reno...
