First & Last Bahamas Trip. Thanks Riu.
As frequent travelers & visitors of Riu resorts, none of the benefits of an all-inclusive stay at the Riu mattered during this trip to the Bahamas; nearly the entire staff was exceptionally rude throughout our whole stay. The consistent, passive aggression, the blatant disregard for any care or courtesy toward any request, and the overall dismissive behavior, was beyond frustrating and disappointing. When you spend money and check in to an all-inclusive resort like this, you hope and expect that the staff at the very least are civil and kind; especially given that they are thankfully employed in the hospitality industry on a highly visited vacation island. It was a rare occurrence to even see a smile on anyone’s face. Every other visitor that we met shared in the same frustrations that we had with the resort and staff: Room service was entirely unresponsive, the bar staff were dismissive and rude, the supposed entertainment crew seemed to enjoy humiliating visitors participating in pool/club activities, restaurant staff seem to rush dinner reservations if you were lucky to find one, and other tourist not staying at the resort but accessing the public beach area nearby were seen stealing Riu visitor’s belongings (sandals, hats, etc.) Any attention brought to hotel security seemed to be disregarded. Overall, this would be our first and last visit to the Riu in the Bahamas. Quite possibly, the last trip to this island altogether, as it is so sad to experience such a rigid unwelcoming community on such a beautiful island. Do better Riu Palace.

Honeymoon
We had a nice stay at the Nassau, Riu hotel with its location being right on the ocean, and proximity within walking distance to shops. The atmosphere was great with adults only, and laid back. The room was nice but not outstanding for the value. Although cleanliness was good. The morning breakfast buffet had about 3 dozens or so to choose from which was nice, but not over the top, some were dried out, over-cooked, besides the omelette station where it was cooked for you on request. The only best part of it. My partner and I booked a couple of restaurants during our stay. The Krystal (fine-dining) and Steak House restaurant. We had a good meal at the Steak House which was cooked to perfection and plated as advertised, but not over the top. Although had a bad experience at the fine-dining restaurant, Krystal, which wasn’t plated as advertised and the plate came out totally different and over-cooked with the entree. I wouldn’t recommend it! The service was very good all around. But you have to watch out for the front doors guys on the day you leave. Because if you didn’t book your shuttle bus in advance during your initial bookings. They will rip you off asking for $40 U.S for the ride splitting with the driver, and then the driver will ask you for the same $40 dollars U.S after the drop off at the airport pretending to know nothing while you clearly see them splitting your $40 at the hotel. It would be cheaper to take a taxi. Overall, it was a good stay for a honeymoon. But nothing too special besides the fresh breakfast omelette station in the morning.

Lovely quick trip to the beach
As others have noted, the hotel is a bit dated but everything is extremely clean, indoors and outside. There was an issue with my room upon arrival and they quickly transferred me to a different room. Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful (quite different from the last Riu hotel I stayed in). The beach was pristine and the staff setting out chairs and umbrellas each day went above and beyond. The food was ok, I did not eat at any of the restaurants but the buffet was "fine." At night, everything moves indoors for dinner/drinks/entertainment, which seemed strange for a hotel on the ocean. The rooms are *freezing* and can only be changed upon request (and even then, I don't think it happened) - staff suggested I leave the A/C on during the day and shut it off in the afternoon (or reverse it if your room is on the other side and gets afternoon sun - even rooms get morning sun/view of the public beach) - which helped but it also made the room damp. Yes, looking out at the garbage, fans, and an empty lot somewhat detracted from an ocean view room and made it hard to hear the waves but it can't be helped - just focus on the horizon instead. Yes, having two different kinds of music blaring down from the same pool area is a bit distracting to those who want to relax on the beach, but it wasn't all day. I don't usually gravitate towards all-inclusive resort hotels but for a quick trip whose sole purpose was to enjoy the beach, this fit the bill.

First time stay and Riu and only impressed with employees and the work they do.
Unlike Sandals, Riu does not have their own transportation to the hotel. My wife and I had paid for transportation and were told to contact a Rui representative when we cleared immigration. We contacted a person outside of the terminal who appeared to be directing the taxis. After looking at our paperwork which showed transfer was to be provide by Bahamas Experience Limousine Tours and Transfers the subject walked away and talked with two other people. This person waved for us to cross the street and took us to a small bus and pointed to man sitting on a bench smoking a cigarette and said that was our driver. My wife and I waited on this bus for 1/2 hour, and the person we were told was our driver never approached the van. After a 1/2 hour my wife and I got out of the bus and walked over to a taxi and paid for a ride to the Rui. Our travel agent contacted the transfer company, and they said since we did not wait, there would be no refund. When my wife and I got ready to leave, we had the same issue. The person handling people leaving the hotel did not seem to know the transfer company and had to ask someone else. This other person told us that the ride might be a little late but would be there soon. Again, my wife and I decided to take a taxi back to the airport instead of taking a chance and waiting on our ride. Our paperwork and Google had 3 phone numbers for the transfer company, but when I called all 3 numbers, I was greeted with a message that advised the number was no longer a working number. I did try an afterhours number and got a voice mail. Now my wife and I loved the Rui hotel and the employees working there. I will say that we did eat at the steak house which needed a reservation and it was fantastic. I will say that we arrived early for our reservation but were turned away because we were early. The young man was polite but stern and advised us to return at 7:00. My wife and I got a beverage and had a seat in the hallway outside the restaurant. We observed others try to enter early and who also were turned away. At 7;00 PM the same young man approached us and called us by name and asked us to follow him. We were impressed that he remembered we had gotten there first and that he knew our names. We did eat the remainder of our meals in the buffet and found every meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner to be absolutely great!!!!!. I have to comment on the gym. This property definitely needs to have someone, anyone, help them repair the exercise equipment. They have one (1) universal workout machine. They had a bolt locked in for adjusting the chest press machine and it was bent and you could NOT adjust the exercise at all. They had a free weight rack but some of the weights were missing. To me it appeared that the Rui did not really care about the weight room. We did have a sink blockage in the bathroom when we first arrived, and a towel hook had come off the wall and hit my wife's foot. Both of these issues were quickly addressed by the staff and repairs were completed. Our coffee pot would not work but again the staff quickly addressed the issue and brought a new coffee maker.

AMAZING RESORT!
This resort was in an amazing location! The water was amazing and our room even had an ocean view we did not expect. The hotel was clean and they were constantly cleaning. They even scrub the beach chairs at night when they put them up. The staff was amazing and kind! Would for sure go back!
