Put us off ever staying at a RIU again
Absolutely not 5*! We take our family holiday each year a week before Christmas with our 18 & 20 year old son & daughter. We decided to have a change from our usual spot in Playa del Duque in Tenerife. However we have never experienced such appalling service at a hotel. We found most staff passive aggressive who treated us with disdain as if we should be lucky we were allowed to stay. I would not class anything at this hotel as 5* except the price. We found it impossible to even order a decent coffee at breakfast. Order a cafe latte and receive a lukewarm warm jug of filter coffee with lukewarm milk (even if you ask politely in Spanish!). There isn’t even a self serve coffee machine! Never shown to an available table and even got shouted at by waiter when we sat at what looked like a vacant table one day. Breakfast was mostly 3* no gluten free options and croissants were stale. Cooking stations cook the eggs/omlettes in batches then they sit there & get cold. In the end I just braved the sighs/looks from the staff when asking for fresh one to be cooked. On the positive side the fresh fruit & juices were excellent. Breakfast finishes at 10.30 but they have cleared away most things by 10.20 & switch off toasters etc. Atmosphere is soul-less in bar area. Germans over 70 appear to be the main audience. Actually couldn’t wait to leave at the end of our week and will never return to this RIU and quite frankly put off staying at any RIU if this the norm. It nearly put us off the area but it is a lovely place and the food in the restaurants in Maspalomas was some of the best food we’ve experienced in restaurants anywhere, so we would look to stay again in a different hotel like the Lopesan.

Best hotel on Gran Canaria?
We enjoyed every second at Oasis. It’s special to stay at the very first hotel the Rio Group opened outside Mallorca. Even though everything has been renovated and is now fresh and modern, the walls still hold stories from the past. Towering palm trees stand outside, a testament to the fact that this place has been here since the late ’60s. The food is absolutely fantastic. When you visit, don’t just stick to the buffet—you have to book a table at the two restaurants, Botanic and whatever the other one is called. The food is excellent. The service is great. The reception staff at Oasis are skilled, multilingual, warm, and welcoming. All in all, if you’re staying on Gran Canaria, this is the place to be—book your stay at Oasis.

Alex's Xmas'24 at the RIU Palace Oasis
The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. My room was quiet, clean comfortable. The Party dancing night was great fun, and the Queen tribute band were impressive. The gardens were lovely. To have made my rating an "Excellent" I suggest the following are considered:- a) Why cheese off customers on arrival after a too long a day travel to get to hotel, to say they' d be charging for the security box ?!!! Just absorb the cost in the overall package surely at this price point? b) The TV is already old, eg why only one English channel on TV, with subtitles hard to select? The TV is not smart, and should facilitate streaming with guests' mobile phone apps eg YouTube or Netflix, or to see the drinks bill c) Sounds nuts, and i'm being harsh, but on the food, great choice but sometimes less is more, given some food items the taste & texture took a hit?

A very nice hotel
We stayed at Riu Palace Oasis with a 4 & 6 year old children. The hotel guests were mostly elderly couples and there weren’t that many other families with kids, but we had a pleasant and relaxing stay. The hotel is quite recently renovated and is clearly well maintained and very clean. There’s also a direct access to beach which was convenient with young kids. The buffet breakfast and dinner are very nice with a good selection of different dishes, and the staff is very attentive (especially Yasey, who took very good care of us).

Absolutely luxurious hotel and excellent staff.
My husband and I spent an amazing week at this stunning hotel. Facilities are excellent, particularly the ice making machine on our floor(ground). Our room was spectacular with so much storage space and an iron and ironing board supplied, also a kettle and coffee, tea etc. which were replenished everyday. Clean towels are offered every evening. The location could not be better, its yards away from the beautiful golden beach and some great little restaurants down a lively little backstreet. Our only issue was with sunbathing, the pools are surrounded by palm trees, which look beautiful, but if you are a sun worshipper like us it’s a big problem as they shade the sun beds. There is a small part of one pool which is not shaded but these beds have towels on them by 7.30 am every morning and what really made us cross and this really needs to be addressed by the management, is that the pool staff were putting down towels for 2 guests who were clearly known to the hotel. But for two days these guests did not even lay on these prime spot sun beds. Many people around the pool were very angry about this and said they would not return to the hotel for this reason. The breakfast is excellent, plenty of choice for everyone including lots of fresh fruit and cava. We ate in for one night, but was not to our taste as it’s buffet style and we prefer to be served, but again plenty of choice.
