Worst resort experience I have ever had.

Food is terrible, the rooms are dirty. They didn’t provide us any blankets at all. Supposed to have room service however the phone in our room doesn’t work, we were told someone was coming to fix it 3 days ago and still no one has come. Resort wifi has only worked one day for us, every other day we have had to walk down the beach to another resort to use the wifi. There is NO WAY POSSIBLE that this is a 5 star resort as advertised, I would give this 2 stars at best (that’s being generous). Staff laugh at your complaints when you go to the desk. The only good thing is the beach is beautiful. One of the two pools at the resort is out of order along with one of the dining rooms. Only one buffet available for dinner. Just do yourself a favour and book somewhere else.

    Almost perfect

This resort is well groomed, well maintained, very clean, colorful buildings, respectful and helpful staff. Each hotel building has accommodations for 8, 4 on the main level and 4 above. We were on the upper level and had gorgeous views from our balcony. This balcony was the biggest of any resort we've ever been to. You could put a queensized mattress out there and still Have room! Balcony 10/10 was cleaned every day as well. Regarding our room, very clean, freshly painted, no maintenance issues, just the older tropical/spanish style. We were so happy to have 2 padded chairs and a nice breakfast table, in addition to 2 plastic chairs and table out on the balcony. The bathroom was beautiful except for the old white enamel tub because it had a couple of rust spots, BUT we had HOT WATER every single day, no delays. The A/C was great also. I also liked the hallway where the closet and fridge was that could be closed off with a door. High vaulted ceilings were a plus. 9/10 ❤️ Room service: kinda sketch! We were there for 10 days, the week after Cuba shut down and alot of travellers were rebooked to the Dominican. This resort was booked to capacity! The cleaners would start at 8:30 then drop everything to go turn rooms over at noon. So services got split up and 1 person would go around just swapping out empty water and pop for full ones, but this person was routinely taking the tip money we were leaving for the cleaners. By the time we figured it out we made amends but, lesson learned. I can't give them a fair rating because it was out of their control, plus many of the cleaners were working full days every day for 3 or 4 weeks already, so kudos to them! 👍 Food: so good! The main buffet restaurant employs chefs, just head for those stations and you'll eat the best. Saw a complaint about the lack of relish/ketchup. They are located at the salad bar in the middle against a pillar. The bar by the pool was our cafe go-to, every morning. Cappuccino, latte, Americano, anything you asked for, plus it was a slushy bar, plus it was a mini lunch buffet from noon til 3. We also enjoyed having fresh omeletta being made for us at breakfast. 10/10 ❤️ Pool: not too deep, but it had its own shallow kids pool up by the beach. It only has ladders so it's hard to get into. My husband has mobility issues so he wasn't able to get in or out. Just one set of steps would make all the difference. Very clean and beautiful 9/10 ❤️ Beach: very well groomed and clean. Pavillion for doing Yoga on the beach, also a kids club, and a large dive shop. Lots of palm trees; great beach area for sunning, tons of loungers available; huge and very wide beach. One of the best we've ever seen in Puerta Plata! 10/10 ❤️ Lobby: great check in/out experience, they ALL speak multitude of languages, including German and French. This is the only area where you can access the free WiFi, also on rainy days, tons of people would hang out at all the tables and chairs playing cards and visiting all day. This was the norm. The theater was open air and just off the lobby so you could watch the evening shows from just about anywhere. There are also a couple of shops there. 8/10 👍 Noise Level: complaints about this were on Facebook. There's a DJ booth at the side of the pool up near the beach end. Every morning at the pool there is water aerobics at 11, which is loud and the leader uses a mic. It's only 40 to 45 minutes. This is followed by a dance lesson of salsa or bachata, which takes about 30 minutes, and again the music is loud and the teacher uses a mic. I found this highly enjoyable 😊 later in the day they have some coconut game or other, around 4, again its loud, but doesn't last long. For the rest of the day, the DJ plays nice soft easy listening tunes that make it easy to relax around the beautiful pool surrounded by natural frond palapas and swaying palm trees. 10/10 ❤️ The only noise I'm aware of isn't even their fault. Every night from 9 til midnight the resort beside them hosts a dance party and the pounding base music is at an unreal volume level. You can't sleep through it. However, you are able to walk over and join in it. So maybe that's the answer. The area is beautiful. It is located on the far west end of Puerto Plata, the only resort further is the Senator. We went down the road from there, West, to the little town of Maimón where we had a fantastic seafood dinner. Lastly, the beer. We were told, it is not Presidente. We were told it is a craft beer. It tasted great, quenched your thirst etc. But there is also a bar full of options, including non-alcohol. If you really have to have Pres. it is available from the shops. We think the Playabachata is a great all-around resort, a GREAT VALUE for your money, one of the best we have ever been to since vacationing in the Dominican Republic since 2015. That being said, this app only allowed us to rate from 1 to 5, and we personally give it 4.6 to 4.8 out of 5.

    Definitely will go again

Great place. Price was good until Cuba basically closed. Love the entertainment staff. Swimming in the ocean, great. No pool access for infirm people. The need to install steps into the pool. They only have ladders. Food was good. Resort always clean.
