Amazing hotel and staff.
Had such a great time with the entire family and extended family! Rooms were huge, food was great, entertainment was amazing. Staff is incredible! We loved it all. Beach was clean and warm. Some places had rocks, but you can navigate around them. I wish there was an outdoor dining option for breakfast, but that’s the only thing I was left wishing for.

Great first stay in Mexico
This place is beautiful! We stayed on the adults side and left the kids at home. The pools were clean and plenty of places to sit and relax. There was weekend entertainment at the pool and they kept the drinks flowing. If you got to the pools before people were out, there would be kitties playing (I always brought them my meat leftovers from the night before). The beach was beautiful and well-kept in the hotel area. The food at Naos buffet was unbelievable- we ate there every day (breakfast and lunch) and it was always something different (fresh fruit, fish, Mexican cuisine). Skip Sal's steakhouse-the only restaurant not included in the all-inclusive- the service was so slow and the food was pretty bad (the kitties at the pool enjoyed it though) and very overpriced. Bana was a good place to eat and we enjoyed the Nespresso cart that was open 24/7. We were skeptical that enough bottled water wouldn't be provided, but housekeeping restocked our mini-fridge daily with plenty to meet our thirsty needs. There are plenty of places to walk around the facility and we went to the gym everyday. The gym was great- plenty of machines, free weights and cardio equipment. The staff was outstanding! I've never been to a place where everyone says, "Hola". The staff were courteous, helpful and kind. I'm sure they are required to say hi to the guests, but they seemed to genuinely be happy. By the end of our week visit, the server at Naos was calling us by our first names. Overall, I would highly recommend this facility. I'm trying hard to think of something negative about our stay (except for one full day of rain, clearly not the resort's fault), but I cannot. Whether you bring kids or go without, you will enjoy your stay.

Great option in Playa del Carmen. Could be even better with some finetuning.
The Meliá Paradisus resort in Playa del Carmen is a huge three-building resort, that includes the Paradisus La Esmeralda, Paradisus La Perla and The Reserve. The rooms are huge, in consonance with the hotel size, and the quality of the food is probably the best I’ve ever seen in an all-inclusive. For the kids, the hotel has a pretty unique water park, full of fun landslides that made us skip the Xcaret chain parks. The only reason why this hotel does not get 5 starts is that its service is quite uneven. For instance, we were told the wrong fare by the concierge on a taxi that we needed to take to attend the Cirque du Soleil show. We were offered an upgrade to connected rooms at a fairly high price even though the hotel was at less than 50% capacitya and we could have received it for free. Finally, some restaurants close at 10.30 pm sharp - we were practically kicked out of Capella while we were still having dessert. Finally, in my opinion, there are just too-many adult-only restaurants - almost half of the total offering. I think that this could be adjusted noting the number of families that are visiting vs. the number of couples. All in all, a very nice hotel that, with some finetuning, could be a great one.

Had a good experience
Great time. Edwardo was our concierge and he did a wonderful job taking care of us. He made sure we knew about activities and had our dinner plans for the week. Each restaurant had great service and the poolside food was good. The room was beautiful and we certainly enjoyed the adults only side of the resort.

Paradisus
We went to Paradisus La Perla from Jan 25-Feb 1. We chose to have the Reserve service. I’ll start with the pros of this resort: Beautiful resort! Clean, well cared for, nice welcoming staff. Lots of restaurants to choose from, our concierge made all the reservations for us, one of the services they do. In hindsight, the reserve upgrade isn’t worth it as you aren’t provided much more than the other customers who stay and use the same facilities. The food was good, lots of variety. We got to hang out at the Reserve Pool which was much quieter. Lots of chairs to choose from. Elias was very attentive and always helpful. The beach was raked daily of seaweed and they had comfy beds to lay on. Long beautiful beach to walk down. Now for the things I wasn’t expecting: smoking, everyone smoked everywhere. Outside restaurants, on the beach, in the pool, down the hallways, it was awful. This shouldn’t be allowed, and if I knew this I wouldn’t have booked here. The main pool every day starting at 11:00am was filled with younger people who drank excessively, never left the swim up bar so not sure when they used the bathroom😳, smoked in the pool and their drinks constantly tipped over into the pool too. The music was very loud and not pleasant. Our room overlooked that pool so we had no choice but to listen to it. I was shocked, and also saw that people from the sister resort came over to our side to party in our main pool since the other resort allowed children. This shouldn’t be allowed, there should be someone monitoring what resort you are from. I guess I shouldn’t assume that if you pay for an adults only upscale resort that you’re less likely to get the rowdy crowd. Our trip was $9000 for a week, and I felt that paying that kind of money there would be a certain class of people that it consists of, I was wrong. Don’t get me wrong, I like to listen to music, have a drink and enjoy myself but this was ridiculous and it wasn’t even school break. This was my biggest complaint. Also, beware of the sketchy salesmen trying to con you into investing with Meliá hotel group. They ask you to give them an hour for a meeting which is all about you investing in their hotel. When they found out we had no desire to do this they were pissed off and asked us why we didn’t tell them earlier so we didn’t waste their time! Although we did get a $150 USD resort credit for listening to an hour of bull crap. Don’t waste your time. All in all, it’s a beautiful resort, the Mexican people are the kindest most welcoming people in all of our travels which is why we return to Mexico. But sorry, I won’t return to this resort. I wanted a quiet relaxing vacation and it was none of this. Despite the reviews I read on it that said it was quiet, not sure where they stayed! The resort really needs to keep the 2 Paradisus divided and not allow the family side to use our facilities. It’s not fair to those who pay more and expect more.
