Absolutely fabulous!
The plane was late from the uk so the bar was closed. The front desk suggested going across the road and had a fun couple of hours. Breakfast in the morning was fab, really loved the staff, so not “stuffy “ as normally expected from a “posh” hotel. Of all the hotels we have stayed in San Francisco , this is one we would do again.

Queen for the Day!
Beautiful, exceptional staff, comfortable room, what else can I say? A wonderful stay. From the moment I arrived to the last step out the door. I was sorry to leave so soon. Convenient location to everything. Conciege was awesome and recommended a fabulous restaurant for dinner. Only thing I would change is in room coffee maker which are available upon request but unfortunately I didn’t read that this-bit until morning and it was too late. The complimentary coffee coupon was a nice touch but I like my coffee while I get ready for my day! Now I know to request the coffee maker at check in! Love this hotel!

New Years Eve disappointment
To splurge on New Years Eve, I booked a room at the Palace , after reading it was Condé Nast Traveler's Top SF Hotel in 2022. It was meant to be part of a great day , evening in the city before flying overseas for a week. As I am accustomed to staying in some pretty awesome hotels around the world, I really was hoping to be wow'ed by The Palace right here in the Bay Area . Such a disappointment. Its NOT a bespoke experience. The place was noisy, crowded, kids running amok , and actually the rooms were incredibly bland, given the incredible garden court with its beautiful ceiling downstairs. The furnishings looked tired, the room was dark /dim and depressing. Despite the upgrade to a higher category (thanks to Amex status) , it really was not an inspiring space. I love hotels with history and elegance and was hoping for this here, but was sadly left wanting. Wanted to enjoy the High tea on Saturday afternoon and got told that it was over already (by the concierge ) at 2pm , when in fact it ran until 4pm. No attempt to assist me in getting a table. Decided to try the lobby lounge for some tea and perhaps, some cake. This too was virtually impossible as I was told everything on the lounge menu (cake wise) was now no more. The next morning , I was hoping to get my car from the valet expeditiously to make it through to San Jose Airport to catch my flight and it was as if I had asked for the world when I requested my car from the valet. The bad attitude and disposition certainly did not create a good lasting impression of this establishment. Sadly , I won't be back . I think Condé Nast Readers who voted, got this wrong unless they too have pretty low expectations of what is considered "Luxury".

Disappointed in San Francisco
Booked the Palace through Am Ex platinum rewards. Breakfast for 2, bar credit and room upgrade typically provided. Room was small- bed was maybe 3 feet from the door, tiny closet, poor, dim lighting, and no dresser. There are gimmicky “suitcases” under each bedside table for storage. Weird. Shower very difficult to operate. Basic cable. Breakfast first morning was a 11/2 hour wait. We went else where costing us $80, plus Uber. Second day ( Christmas morning) buffet had a 30 minute wait( no reservation taken) . Bar service in lobby very slow. No menus. Lobby bar closed second night so they could set up for Christmas Day brunch ($170pp). Valet took 30 minutes to find our car. Not really a luxury hotel- it’s an older hotel with a grand lobby and basic rooms. Disappointed.

Great Historical Hotel in Downtown SF
Generally a great hotel! Historical lobby and glorious decorations give the feeling of the gilded age. Upgraded to suite using Marriott privileges - and it was pretty large. Bathroom was with Byredo supplies, which I don't see often in the US. Not necessarily at 5-star level but definitely above 4-star, making it a good value for the money in that region. Visited during the holiday season and the breakfast place was quite full. Had to wait for an hour to get breakfast as a result. The bar was also full when I visited and had to wait for a seat - drinks are good though. Service at the restaurants on-site are not very impressive. Maybe the staff really resent working over the holiday. Overall it seems the hotel is a bit short-staffed at times as well.
