Loud, slow, dirty
Loud room on the roadside, didn’t sleep all night after a long flight. No bellboy at entrance, dirty hotel and room, poor service and terrible food. Hotel offered me free parking in return (!) or a different room the next day or a downgrade to another room without a discount in the rate. Tried to arrange the day after but no one picked up at front desk the two times I called.

True royalty!
Diana has been one of the best service staff we’ve met. She was warm and entertaining, making the 1st impression count! Joe from concierge was also eager to help with our bags and luggages. House keeping staffs did a great job maintaining cleanliness, always so cheerful to greet us along the corridors. Ming from Piped Piper is also chatty and ready to offer info on the property while we were having our drinks. On the overall, we can feel warm and genuine happiness from all the service staff. I think the GM did a fabulous job keeping such a happy team. Well done, we definitely felt like royalities past 3 nights!

Historic Luxury Hotel - Gret Location and worth a visit
Wonderful historic hotel with an amazing courtyard that is utilized for its main restaurant. Read about the history of this luxury hotel that dates back to 1875. It was a perfect location for our 3-day trip to San Francisco. It was in walking distance to our planned activities, Chinatown and other San Francisco sights. Good restaurants also in walking distance.

Beautiful but lacking the detail
There’s no doubt this is a beautiful hotel, with an amazing history. But here’s the sad however….you cannot be luxury when there is a lack of attention to the detail. Vents are always a good indicator of cleanliness and they were very poor in the room. All 3 were covered in…however can’t fault room keeping and service just lacking in maintenance.

Top Drawer (with a caveat).
The AI review posted above is right on the money. The Palace is exactly what you might expect in a luxury hotel. I would like to comment on the magnificent Garden Room restaurant where the ambience is off the charts but the policy falls short of the mark. They do not have a full service restaurant available during all reasonable hours. There is no host on duty all day and the hours for meals are rigidly circumscribed; such as, one cannot order lunch past 2:00pm. And then nothing (I do not consider High Tea at an hundred dollars per head, having something to eat) until dinner hour. Usually, top hotels maintain a way to feed their guests from early morning to late in the evening. So, that’s disappointing.
