Occidental Costa Cancun
This is a pretty nice resort at a good price. There is a large pool, small beach, three restaurants, two bars, a snack bar, and a spa with a hot tub, a sauna, and a steam room. The rooms in the resort were nice and well cleaned daily. There were live activities and entertainment every day. Only downside was that both bars closed pretty early (10 pm?) so there was not much to do late at night on the resort.

Family Vacation
Spent 7days at this all inclusive with the family. Location is good with lots of activities. The price was excellent, I got the best deal from the Barcelona website. The small beach had some seaweed but nothing to bother about. Water was calm which I liked and pool was warm. Beware of people inflating prices. Take e-transfers for transport. Do not take American car rentals. They are not honest. All the staff at the hotel were very hard working and friendly. The place is clean and very homey. Food is good and adequate. The all inclusive is very reasonable compared to other resorts especially if you are on a budget. It’s close to the mall, and lots of eating places. There is an aquarium close by and you can swim with the dolphins. All in all a good vacation for my family

9 days at occidental was ok
good hotel, very nice food, too noisy if you want to rest. Non stop repeating boring rural music (not the best mexican music unfortunately), beach is very tiny and rocky. location is good. Close to the ferry to the aila muheres....

Pay more and go elsewhere
This was our first time and we learned so many lesson coming back from Mexico. It was also unfortunate that my husband got seriously ill the very first night at this hotel from food poisoning and had passed out at which time I called the front desk for the doctor. They doctor came which was a cost of US 200 but the state of food poisoning was so bad they had to take him to the hospital which costs US2500 to board him and that did not even covered, any blood test, IV etc. so we returned to the hotel and told the front desk and they literally wrote 2 public hospitals on a post it and left us there suggesting to jump from hospital to hospital if it was too expensive and each trip with the taxi would be 30 US. The hotel night manager was unhelpful, unsympathetic towards our situation - i had to reach out to my friends in MX to help us get antibiotics and electrolytes and deliver it to our room as my husband was severely dehydrated - believe it or not for the rest of the vacation not one hotel person called to follow up on how we felt knowing he was unwell which to me is UNACCEPTABLE, my husband could have passed away. The food while open buffet was stacked in tiers and everyone's arm had to go over the lower tiers to reach the food, additionally all the food was left open allowing for contamination from constant 'touch' at time and the temperature were not working properly in the warmers which could pose a food safety risk. The wifi was often unstable with very low speed when connected. The room was a nightmare, the room floor kept condensation as if you threw a bucket of water on the floor, staffed had to constantly mop and because my husband fell ill, changing the room was secondary. The fan in the room would not remain as its has motion detection so in the middle of the night i would need to move and arm or leg to get it spinning again, the door handle also fell off and the many times were called reception for repair, or bottle water it would never arrive. On the very first day the hotel was offering a promotion to chichen itza which usally cost 140US pp but they wanted to give us for 110 US pp however, my friend staying at the Hard Rock hotel got his offer for 110 US per couple which was far better so before taking any tour ensure you shop around. Due to the poor, horrible customer service we received especially in the time of an emergency we would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Book your tours with Richie!
Friendly staff, location is ok since it's near the ferry, but it's also a very small beach, we then decided to book a tour to Isla Mujeres because we heard the beach is amazing over there and oh my god, we had a blast! Look for Richie and at the snack corner, he's not always over there but he should, he took the time to explain every excursion and he even gave us some discounts, we also went to Chichen Itza and it was a very cultural trip
