Perfect Base for New Orleans
This was our first time in New Orleans, and we found the New Orleans Marriott to be the perfect base for a weekend exploring the city. The French Quarter and Mississippi are within walking distance, and multiple nearby trolley lines run to the Garden District, etc. As a Platinum member, we had access to one of the best M Clubs I've experienced, including a full buffet breakfast, appetizers in the evening that could easily be dinner if preferred, and snacks/drinks throughout the day. The rooms were comfortable with beautiful views, and everyone we encountered with the hotel was helpful and kind. A great stay! We would happily stay here again on our next trip to New Orleans.
Good location, excellent hotel overall
Just returned from a 5 day stay while attending a conference at the hotel. Overall, the experience was a good one with no problems during my stay. I paid extra for a room with M club privileges which was well worth it. The breakfast buffet was excellent with made to order omelets. The choices in the evening were fewer but also quite good. The M lounge area itself was quiet and pleasant. I did have to return to the desk to get a special M club card, which they didn't give me when I checked in, but this wasn't a big deal. I didn't use any other hotel amenities so I can't comment on those. In terms of the room, I had a corner room overlooking the river, which was quite nice. It was clean and had typical furnishings. The only oddity was that there was no light switch or automatic lighting when one entered the room but fortunately cellphones now have flashlights so I was able to figure out how to turn on the lights eventually. The hotel also seemed to do a good job in hosting the conference that I attended. The hotel location is quite good. It's right on Canal St so there's easy streetcar access and it's a easy walk to the waterfront and to the French Quarter even for some one who's not in great shape (like myself). Overall, I had a pleasant stay and I'd be happy to return there. The only reason for 4 stars vs 5 stars is that it's a typical Marriott hotel without features that are truly memorable for the price/ level of hotel.

Pay More, Get Less
The room we were in was the bare minimum that one would expect for an overnight stay unfortunately we were staying longer. Thus the two small drawers in what passed for a "bureau" were grossly inadequate. The bathroom was clean with adequate hot water but a towel rack on which to hang our wet face towels would have been appreciated. Considering the nightly room cost some form of free wi-fi should have been available. Overall the room and amenitied werr disappointing.
Sleep was almost impossible due to a loud “whooshing” noise following by what sounded like pipes banging together. Sounded like the building was settling. Noticed the noise when we turned off the TV around 10pm, and it occurred every minute or two. As it got later, the noise became less frequent, so figured out it must be caused by the elevator operation. The elevator bank was two rooms away. Traveling companions other rooms complained of the same noise. Around 2am the train horns started. Worst sleep in months. For a decent sleep, avoid rooms near the elevator and rooms facing the river, even on the highest floors.
