Amazing Vacation at the Lopesan
We had an amazing vacation at Lopesan! The grounds are beautiful & kept in pristine condition. We booked Unique & really enjoyed the ocean view breakfast & service at the Unique Beach Club. Shout out to our butler Victor who was always available to help us plan our stay. He even surprised us with a special treat to celebrate a birthday early! We will definitely recommend this resort to family & friends.

Beautiful grounds of the resort to walk through, all drinks were good. The food was good! A little something for everyone and the staff have been exceptional! Our room cleaners were so lovely leaving us flowers and the entertainment staff were awesome, shout out to Chupi, he was so much fun and was a great MC for the foam party, beach party and theatre shows - was a great time and I’m looking forward to coming back!

Stylish lovely property with average food and service
Stayed in the Unique section of this massive resort. There are some positive things about this place, but a few not so good things as well. The property gives off a very stylish and sophisticated feel, but the service and food do not always match. Check in at Unique = Below Average. There was no line at the general check in but several people waiting at the Unique area to check in. Its not a great impression when you're paying for a VIP check in experience and are made to sit and wait. Our butler was not available to escort us to our room and we never met him in person although we did meet during the week via text He did check in to see if we needed assistance and I’m sure he would have helped, but there was nothing really we could not get or do ourselves. Room = Excellent. Jr Suite Tropical view was spacious, and had a nice balcony overlooking the gardens. Modern feel and stylish. Our TV rarely worked but we were told it was the whole property – satellite issues at times. No bother to us as the weather was excellent and we were outside all day but it would have been nice to have something on while we were getting ready for dinner, etc. Housekeeping = Excellent. Kept our room spotless, always fresh towels and a knock at night around 7 as we were getting ready for dinner to freshen up the room and refill mini bar etc. And everyone was pleasant. In fact, I found the entire property to be very clean and well maintained – so if you are someone concerned with cleanliness this is for you! Construction noise = Poor, There was always some work being done, and for two days in the courtyard outside our room there was drilling of the stonework, followed by banging, drilling, and so on. Could not enjoy the balcony those two days. Its unfortunate - I know there needs to be maintenance but the hotel owes it to the paying guests to warn them. Unique Beach = Good. The beach itself is nice and there are plenty of loungers throughout the day -- no need to get up early and stake a claim. That was great. And there was drink service and it was frequent and friendly. But, two days there were no towels from 10am on for several hours. That's unacceptable. Both towel huts were open but empty and they would just say "10 minutes" when it was much longer. The beach is not a quiet beach so be prepared. There are numerous party boats coming and going all day and its loud. Competing music all day, somewhat drowned out by the resorts own competing music. There was little seaweed and the water was calm and pleasant. The beach was clean, and there was constant security keeping non guests and vendors away from the chairs. And I really appreciated the security monitoring the Unique sections for Unique guests only. Unique Beach Club - Very good. Food was available almost all day. Breakfast ran into brunch which ran into lunch and so on. I love how the dining area is open air but the buffet is in enclosed aircon space -- keeping bugs and the heat away. Breakfast was an excellent buffet. Lunch was repetitive but plentiful. My only complaint about lunch was that it was a "heavy" lunch. Not a 'beachy: light tropical lunch, but a lot of stews, fish, red meat etc. Would have appreciated lighter fare but thats just me. Pools = Very good. As with the beach, you could always find a spot. The main infinity pool is where all the action is. The Unique pool was disappointing as its small and not in the Unique area but on the opposite side and not near the beach or Unique beach club. Unique is not Adults Only, and when we went to check out the Unique pool it was full with kids. The Adults only pool (which you need an adults only or Unique room band to enter) is really tucked away and surrounded by buildings with no real views – which is a shame because that pool was quiet with excellent bar service. A La Carte Dining - Average. Some poor, some good. Italian was just ok, with decent food ruined by poor service. French was also ok but menu items were not as stated on the menu. Mediterranean restaurant was terrible. Everything we had there was either wrong or horrible taste. Teppanyaki was excellent - one of the best we have had with great service. And the Steakhouse was also excellent with great service. The Valley American grill was a mixed bag. One day great, and then the same meal later in the week was poor. The one time we visited the buffet, it was very good and expansive. Bavaro Coffee was really good too. Finally, service = Average. Sometimes excellent, and sometimes rude and dismissive. The language barrier can be a problem as many of the staff speak little English and many of the guests are from Spanish speaking countries. I speak enough Spanish to get around which helped, and usually, but not always, some small talk in Spanish, like a quick “Hola.,” helped with the service. We walked out of the Italian restaurant early the service was so bad. Maybe I’m old school but part of the problem with the restaurant service was that there were no paper menus (use the QR code and read it on your phone) and the waiters uses iPhone to key in your order – very impersonal, and it just seems like ordering fast food with little interaction. The food was delivered by someone else, and drinks by yet another person. So there seems to be no one really in charge and if your meal was delivered wrong (which happened almost every day) you had no idea who to tell and they didn’t stop back anyway. Most of the staff at the Unique area was excellent, with a few exceptions. Overall, I would return to the Lopesan. The cleanliness and expansiveness of the property outweigh the average food and service.
