Expect to Be Downgraded with No Accommodation or Compensation for Blunder
We were inexplicably downgraded the day we were to check in from the executive room, for which we received a confirmation weeks in advance of our four-night stay, due to some purported "issue with the executive floor." When pushed for an explanation, management was vague and refused to expound upon the source of the problem. Management indicated they were only going to charge us for the room type we ultimately received. After one night, management expected us to pack all our belongings and move rooms, wasting the valuable and limited time we have in Rome to relocate rooms because of their inability to provide the room for which we paid and for which we had been confirmed. I will never in my life stay at this hotel again and will encourage everyone in my sphere of influence in the United States including all my colleagues in the legal community to avoid this hotel at all costs. If you book a room type, you should assume you will not receive it and that the hotel will think they are doing you a favor by simply letting you pay for the downgraded room they provided instead of some more gracious accommodation. When I explained that a reduction in the rate commensurate with the room we were provided was the LEAST the hotel could do, I was looked at with a blank stare from the manager. Incompetence at its finest, and if this is how Le Meridien hotels operate in general, I will never stay at another one in my lifetime. Beyond the problems with the management of the hotel, the walls are paper thin with unpleasant noise all night. The rooms are blazing hot for March with no ability to reduce the internal temperature except opening windows, and the bathroom is one of the smallest I have ever encountered in my lifetime. One of their three tiny elevators was out of service during our stay, and our stay in Rome has been less than ideal. Our Platinum status with Marriott means nothing. I am a Diamond with Hilton, and we consistently find that Hilton provides meaningful upgrades in a way that Marriott simply does not anymore. As an Eagle Scout like the founder of Marriott was, it is a sad shame to see how far Marriott's brand status has fallen. Perhaps the Le Meridien brand is the actual problem and should be removed from the Marriott portfolio of brands. Either way, we will never stay at a Le Meridien ever again after this experience.

Great hotel, but be cautious about using the hotel's aiport transfer.
My husband & I stayed 4 nights at the hotel. We had a fantastic stay - comfortable room, pleasant staff, good breakfast. I would have given the hotel a 5-star rating, but for the experience I had when leaving. I asked the hotel to call a taxi for me to take me to the airport. Taxis advertise a €55 rate to the airport (it's even written onto the outside of the car door). I specifically did not request a hotel private transfer because I'd been told the night before that it would cost something like €80. The desk lady told the bellman (I assume) that I'd like a taxi to the airport. The bellman comes, takes my bag, walks with me outside and tells me that I can take the private transfer car to tbe airport for the same price as a taxi, €55 (he specifically said €55). I agreed, assuming that this car was being made available at market rate for taxis because it was not busy at all (Monday 9am) and the car was just sitting in the parking lot, not being used. We arrived at airport, and the driver tells me that if I want to pay with credit card, the price is €65. If I have cash, I can pay the "discounted" rate of €60. Now, I was planning on paying €60 anyway. because I was going to give a tip. But, this is not what was communicated by hotel personnel, and I was not happy to give up my more limited cash. After exiting the car, I called the hotel and told them what had happened. They were, of course, apologetic. But, I wrote this as a caution to not trust even what the hotel staff are telling you about the price for the private transfer service recommended & provided by the hotel. Not a huge deal, but I was left with a bad taste in the mouth after what had otherwise been a wonderful stay.

Best to Consider Other Options
Location is this property’s strongest asset, with the Vatican approximately 20-minutes away by foot and the Colosseum about 40-minutes away by foot as well. Rooms are very small, even those labeled as Deluxe (in which we stayed). Bathrooms are tiny, and we dealt with sewer gas odors daily. Amenities were never replaced, and maid service couldn’t care less about the Do Not Disturb sign or light. Walls are paper thin…neighbor sneezed, we said “bless you” out loud and he responded with thanks…ridiculous. Breakfast is adequate although obvious every attempt is made to find the least expensive products. Juice comes from a machine that uses concentrate, and the coffee machine “brews” coffee in a matter of seconds…tastes like the colored water it is. Rooms above us were undergoing construction, and the workers arrived and started making noise around 06:30 AM…even on Christmas Eve! Management agreed this is unacceptable, but never confirmed they would address it…we woke up at 07:30 AM on the 26th to power tools…ridiculous. To add insult to injury, we were not told of the construction above us when checking in. There are better options in Rome!

Fantastic location, friendly service
We arrived early and were allowed to check in immediately. There’s no platinum lounge, but there were some complimentary drinks in the minibar. The room was very nice, but the LOCATION is the draw. We walked almost everywhere we were interested in seeing except Ancient Rome, which is more of a taxi or metro ride away. One weird thing: the front desk wouldn’t accept postcards for mailing, and I’ve never had that experience before at a Marriott property.
- AdvisoryPrices are based on single or double occupancy. You will incur additional charges at the time of check-in for additional room occupants. The Front Desk will verify the age of the guest to determine whether the extra fee would apply.
