Not worth it on your own dime

We thought it would be fun to stay at a resort for a couple days when our plans to stay with friends over new year's weekend fell through. We booked through Costco and got something resembling a deal, but still in the neighborhood of $500+ per night for a basic double-queen room. The bathroom was gigantic and there was a small divan that worked for the smaller kid to sleep on, but otherwise not especially interesting, and a long hike from everything. Breakfast was a disaster--only one restaurant and the Starbucks is open, and the restaurant is at half capacity because the outdoors is closed. No one told us to make a reservation, so it was an hour for the expensive buffet or a 35 minute Starbucks line. There were people everywhere, half of the pool/gardens are under construction (resulting in every surface being covered by pool chairs), and there's nowhere to just take a nice outdoor walk before you hit the golf course. If you want a feeling of space or just to enjoy the desert, no luck. On the positive side, the staff was unfailingly positive, our dinner at Roy's was great, and the soundproofing is sufficient we heard not a peep of New Year's madness. When leaving we find out we still owe money because parking--in the desert in the middle of nowhere where nothing else charges for parking--is $23 a night, it's not included, and you can't use the Costco credit to cover it. And then another $19 charge randomly showed up on our card I can't be bothered to fight over. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. It wasn't a good deal even at our discount, and if I were paying full freight for a luxury experience, I would have been considerably disappointed.

    True example of excellent hospitality!

Recently my husband had work that brought him to Phoenix. The high class & attention to detail encourage us to extend our business stay and choose the JW at Dessert Ridge every time we visit Phoenix. Working in a hotel is demanding & you are interacting with guest all the time - but that did not stop this team - they are accommodating, helpful, happy and so considerate. Their was a brief mention of our Annv to the front desk when we checked in. On our 2nd night of this stay, we walked into our room, just as the sun was setting, and we were greeted with a decorated room of roses, rose petals, wine & chocolates and handwritten note. It was so beautiful! Matt & the dining staff & room service team get an A++++ I snapped a photo of their amazing work & emailed Matt the next day to thank him. Then, 2 nights later, room service brought us my photo, printed & framed & more wine & chocolates! And another hand written note, signed by the staff! Way above & beyond! So special! We will never forget it. Thank you for making it our home away from home! The fire pits were truly a highlight for us to sit around & relax at night in the common areas. So inviting and staff wiling to get you anything to make your stay more comfortable. The instructors for Yoga & Aqua Fitness were are all very knowledgeable and wiling to help you. We tried our hands at the Pickleball courts on the resort and never laughed so much. We are hooked on playing more! The rooms & all public areas are always clean and well maintained. I felt safe & secure walking anywhere on the grounds. We also love the location of being able to walk to multiple stores (grocery, liquor, clothes shops, restaurants & bars) at High Street or Dessert Ridge. We also hiked many beautiful trails filled with Desert Cactus & Desert Trees that were within 30 minute drive or less of the hotel. Some of the Saguaro cactus were over 100 years old.

    Flatbread wasn’t flat

The hotel is basically nice but the restaurants have something to be desired. Only one open for lunch. Nothing special. The bar downstairs advertised flatbread but it wasn’t flat, more a raised dough pizza type thing. We opted for housekeeping but didn’t seem to get a full set of towels every day. The acoustics in our conference rooms were so bad I couldn’t understand the speakers. The hotel is in desert ridge and far away from everything. The spa was nice

    Amazing stay and service

We had an amazing time at the resort. The property was beautiful and the food was delicious. Tia Carmen has a fantastic, but expensive breakfast. The room service also has great food. Matthew Miller, head of room service, had amazing recommendations and made our trip unforgettable. We will be coming back. Other details: - the hotel is close to a lot of shopping, restaurants, and things to do. - the wifi is great. Both in the room and in the pool area - the parking is close to the rooms - they had beautiful Christmas decorations

Elegant, enjoyable, hotel- somewhat out of the way

My second time staying at this hotel. It's a large, corporate hotel, but elegant and well appointed, with lovely grounds and plenty of outdoor heated pools. Rooms are large and comfortable with lots of amenities. The restaurants at the hotel (Tia Carmen, Roy) are spectacular, if a tad expensive. My only concern is that the hotel is somewhat isolated. Cabs/Ubers are required to get just about anywhere. Though that is often the case in Phoenix.
