Hotel Spring Break Policy - The resort is a family oriented environment and thus has implemented the following policy for Spring Breakers reservations. The valid period is March 1st, 2020 to April 30th, 2020. Spring Breakers are defined as Students/youth between 16 and 23 years of age.
- One parent or chaperone at least 25 years of age will be required per room for check-in.  Adults accompanying are responsible for the students’ behavior.
-  In the event that any guest(s) engage in inappropriate behavior disrespecting Hotel staff and/or other guests or causing physical damages to the facilities, the Hotel Management reserves the right to expel the guest(s) without reimbursement or refund of the remaining nights.

    Awesome trip!

    We absolutely loved this resort. We stayed for a friends wedding and had no complaints. The staff were really nice & the service was top notch at all times. Our friends kids enjoyed the kids club too. The rooms were well appointed, clean and the beds comfortable. We would love to visit again!

    One time too many

    This was our 5th time at this resort and it was one time too many. As the resort has gained in popularity for all of the reasons we first enjoyed its service and quality has not kept pace with the increase. The resort is starting to look tired and had many areas under repair, food in the a La carte restaurants (the buffets were the best meals we had)was much poorer than we recalled and while we understand it is a family resort I dont like to be seated with 4 infants at the Japanese restaurant. Needless to say we will not be returning.

    Has Declined since 2018

    Having visited here for a wedding in 2018 we noticed the food quality has deteriorated. Many food items were extremely over cooked and dried out. Bacon at breakfast was like shoe leather. Chicken was always dry and kept in serving dishes which were much too hot. The highlight of the food experience was the Japanese restaurant. Great presentation, taste, and variety. Upon arrival to the room, it appeared the air conditioner had been off for several days. The room was very damp with a musty smell. The refrigerator was warm. It took several calls to have someone look at the refrigerator. After the service person set it to the coldest setting it worked fine. The control was not accessible from the front of the refrigerator. After about the third day the toilet seat broke. This also took several calls to have this looked at. After the second day with the air conditioner in the room running, humidity levels were acceptable. We have stayed at the Iberostar in Cozumel many times. and this was the second time to this resort. This is the first time that there was not recognition as a returning guest. Not a big deal, but a "Welcome back" comment, or a card in the room is a nice gesture.

    Never again

    Would not recommend, the rooms stink, lots of moisture, perhaps mold? The pool is freeezing cold, we complained, their response its not heated. Here for 10 days, and any given day has been 2 people in the pool, swim up bar, no one! I have been to many resorts, never seen this. As well we have to turn air cond off at nite, as only one setting, they sent someone to fix but did not fix! The reserved restaurants, japanese good, others just average. Buffet is ok. For info The beach is located two flights of stairs below the pool, you cant see beach from the pool. Keep in mind if you want to go between the pool and beach like other resorts, not convenient. I have been to RIU’s, Barcelos, Bahia Principes, These were excellent compared to this resort. We gave our issues to office, they were polite, but issues not resolved. They sent choc covered strawberries and a cheap bottle of champagne to our room. I would highly NOT recommend!

    Family vacation

    We stayed as a family of mom and dad with three children ages 20, 21 and 22 in the second week of January. . We have stayed at Iberostar in Riviera Maya several times and also Jamaica. I would rate the convenience, food, drinks and service at Playa Mita better than the Maya or Lindo. The resort is remote, so if you want to do any exploring or excursions that is a factor to consider. The beach is narrow and rocky in places. The surf is too rough to swim. The pool was too cold to swim in, but on our last day we hopped in and swam to the pool bar just to have done it. It was about ten degrees cooler than Riviera Maya, but we wanted to try the Pacific coast to enjoy the sunsets and absence of seaweed. The sunsets were fantastic from the terrace bar. Our concierge Johana was outstanding. She made dinner reservations for us each night, the first night she booked ahead for us. We tried each restaurant once and canceled a few reservations because we all preferred the buffet. The French restaurant was good. The Mexican was our favorite, with the table side guacamole prep. The Steakhouse was not so good. Tepid Mac and cheese, rare salmon, and we couldn’t wait to get out and head to the buffet. Had room service once and it arrived hot in about 20 minutes. Service everywhere was spot on and friendly. We only went to two shows, the circus/fire show on the sunset terrace and trivia/karaoke in the theatre. Both were well done and fun. The beach bar has the best tacos and drinks. Great servers who like to have fun with guests. Our outings included a trip to the hidden beach at Islas Marietas which is a must, and four hours in Sayulita which was plenty. My tips for a great stay are: Ocean view rooms are very partial ocean view, as in only from standing on the far corner of the balcony. Unless getting ocean front I don’t think it makes a difference. Ask for a room that is not near construction, and a high floor for the view from balcony. If the elevator is being serviced, go through the next door to use the service elevator. Another guest had a dehumidifier for their room. Wish I had known because the humidity is serious. Don’t overpack because everything will need to be de-stinked when you return home. I suggest Lysol on suitcases and turning them over on floor vents for extended hot air treatment. The resort cats are: Pollo, named after “chicken” by one of the performers because he was in bad shape and skittish when she first befriended him. He is black and if you call to him at the base of the theater stairs, he will come to you for a pet and a treat. His spotty friend/sibling? can be found at the pool in the evening. We take lots of tip money and tip generously. We had the best service ever and found every staff member to be genuinely kind and helpful. If there were direct flights I would consider going back to this resort even though the ocean is not swimmable, but think I’be back at Riviera Maya next time. Direct flights from the Midwest and also less expensive. Overall, great. Enjoy!
