We got the old “bait and switch”! Paid full price for not being able to use most of the resort!

My wife and I chose this lberostar because we stayed at Iberostar in Jamaica and loved it! This time however we got the old “bait and switch”! We arrived at the hotel and on the way to the adult side were surprised at the number of unaccompanied children running about. Upon check in we were informed by the concierge that a large group just came in and had booked the entire main hotel of the resort and some of the coral side as well. We didn’t think much of it and went about our business- first thing we found out was the app was not updated with current info. Second thing we found out was when we tried to book dinner reservations through the app every restaurant said times were “unavailable “. When we asked the front desk about this they told us that all of the restaurants at the resort with the exception of 2 were not available to us due to being reserved for the large group! We asked why we were not informed of this before check in and got no reasonable explanation whatsoever! So our whole stay we were relegated to one restaurant which was on the coral side (we were unable to use the second option the whole time we were there). The noise during the first day was surprisingly loud. They had a large sound system with subwoofers playing rave style music on the beach that made relaxing on the beach quite impossible. They had large parties for the group (that we were made aware that we were not welcome to attend or even walk through) that went on until 12 midnight! Loud bass that literally made it hard to talk at normal levels and we were on the 10th floor! The one night we were able to get to sleep at 11pm (by turning the tv up load to cover the noise of the party below us) were were awakened by professional fireworks launched from the beach at 11:45pm 100 yards off of our balcony that startled us out of bed from the explosions! No employees warned us that this was coming! Could not get back to sleep for over an hour after that. Entertainment is a big factor for us when choosing a location so we were dismayed that the theater which was advertised to have nightly shows was OFF LIMITS TO US as it was reserved for the private group the whole time we were there! We did not feel comfortable even exploring the resort property and conference center during the day as other couples told us they walked through and were told by the group that “it was a private event” and “you can’t be here”….these were Iberostar club members! Other club members we met told us they were not notified of the group taking over the resort (for the 7th consecutive year we found out) either! We made the best of it since re-booking and moving to a different property wasn’t feasible for us. I will say the employees were great and from the looks on their faces were as not impressed as we were with having to put on a smile and explain to us why we were not told ahead of time that 85% of the resort and 5 of the 7 restaurants were off limits to us. Also on many occasions there were children on the adult coral side using the volleyball court and walking along the pool. After an hour or so the staff had them leave reluctantly after an adult they were with was arguing that they were guests and weren’t hurting anything. We research thoroughly and choose our destinations wisely after reading reviews. On several occasions when we called the front desk to complain about the loud noise at night and to ask when the noisy parties might , the front desk did not even answer the phone. It went to a voicemail! When I inquired about a manager to speak to, there was never one on duty that we were able to speak with! My wife and I both filled out surveys, explaining our dismay about not being told that we wouldn’t be able to use most of the resort and restaurants. My wife wrote a letter to Iberostar and we were hoping.for some explanation/compensation/partial refund but it has been over a week since we wrote the letter (email). And so far I have received no response! Other couples we were with were a lot angrier than we were and used the word fraud to describe the actions of the hotel. We paid a lot of money for the Iberostar experience and we’re short changed! If they would have told us ahead of time, we could’ve booked another Iberostar property where we could utilize the whole resort. Unfortunately, we never got that option and the fact that corporate will not even respond to us has ensured that when we book one of our multiple trips a year, Iberostar will be crossed off the list of properties to consider! I advise anyone booking to ask if there will be large groups and to make sure that the property will be accessible, and the theater willbe open to all patrons of the resort not just a select group!

Deceptive practices plus poor food and spa experiences!

Beware: Deceptive practices, poor food and spa, overshadow otherwise nice property: should have believed the reviews I read before hand. This was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had in decades of travel. While there were a handful of exceptional staff members who provided genuinely great service, the overall experience was defined by repeated misrepresentation and poor accountability. The most serious issue: my reservation was changed without my knowledge or consent from a standard qualifying stay into a promotional stay, which removed my IHG points and elite credit. This was never disclosed, and it only became apparent after checkout. I contacted both Iberostar and IHG countless times following my stay and received little to no response. The only time I saw any movement was after escalating and mentioning filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which is something I have never had to do before and did not take lightly. Additionally, I booked a high-floor oceanfront suite and was instead placed on the first floor with no acknowledgment or recovery. The spa experience was disorganized and unacceptable. Appointments confirmed in advance did not exist upon arrival, amenities were missing or nonfunctional, and a discount that was promised was later denied. The “concierge” area is in reality a timeshare sales operation. Guests are approached with what appears to be a complimentary offer (in my case, a massage), which turns into a high-pressure sales pitch for a very expensive (30K+) membership. The interaction felt misleading and uncomfortable. Food quality across the property was also consistently poor, with overly salted dishes and limited appealing options, especially at the pool and buffet. The store on property charges US$20 for eight tampons, which is price gouging. While at morning yoga, a pool attendant was watching TikTok videos, and when I kindly asked him to stop to focus and hear the yoga instructor he rolled his eyes at me and there will also broken nails and shards of metal where we were supposed to be practicing barefoot. The property itself is clean and visually appealing, and again, some staff members were excellent. However, the combination of deceptive practices, lack of transparency, and failure to respond or resolve issues makes it impossible to recommend.

    Would Highly Recommend

We just got back from a 10 day stay at the Iberostar Selection Coral Cancún and it was a wonderful stay. We enjoyed the food at every restaurant and we tried them all! We went for supper between 5:45 and 6:15 each night so we had no trouble getting in to eat without reservations. The one night we went later (after 7:00 pm we did find that there were wait lists at a couple of restaurants but we were able to get into American Bistro just fine). I did especially enjoy the ravioli at La Horma and the Chateaubriand at American Bistro (this dish is so big that my husband and I shared it and we still couldn’t finish it all). The buffet on the Coral side was excellent with many options and variations from day to day. The chef Millie was out and about and checking on our crew and any food allergies were attended to immediately! You really don’t have to eat anywhere else to feel like you had different meals every night. The rooms were very well kept and we would always find little surprise designs each time it was cleaned. The Iberostar app was wonderful to have and it would be updated to let us know when our room was cleaned. My husband loved the Bluetooth speaker connection in the room and played songs from his phone daily while we were getting ready in our room. The fact that every room is oceanfront is a huge plus for me. We could even sit on our balcony and enjoy the evening entertainment outside below. It was fantastic! We loved the lobby decor and would find ourselves there every evening before supper for a drink. Veronica (I believe that was her name)was an amazing server. She works hard and always with a beautiful smile. The entertainment crew worked hard all day and into the evenings to keep people entertained. If you wanted to be busy, you could be, but if you want a relaxing quiet vacay, you can have that too. A couple of particular people who made our stay fantastic around the pool were Rubin (spelling is wrong but I can’t remember it) and Laura. Rubin was always friendly and enthusiastic about the day and made a point of remembering people. Laura was the absolute best at making sure we had whatever we needed around the pool. She seemed to know exactly when people wanted their umbrella put up and was there right away helping out. She checked in multiple times a day to see if we needed anything. She worked hard to make our stay easy! And for that we are so grateful. Employees like her, make people like us want to come back to this resort! I saw her and another staff member react quickly to help a lady who had fallen and hurt herself . They are so attentive to guests and their needs. To be honest all staff were friendly and helpful at this resort. The water was beautiful but rough the entire time we were there. If you are looking for a swimming beach, this may not be the place for you. But it is a stunningly beautiful beach. We travelled with my parents who are in their late 70’s/early 80’s and we loved how accessible things were. Nothing was far away to get to. I could go on, but suffice to say, we loved our stay and would highly recommend this resort to others. We hope to go back again!!

Relaxing and enjoyable stay/ 9 out of 10 stars

This was our second visit to this resort, becoming Iberostar The Club members 10 years earlier before the Coral section was built. Although we visit all-inclusive resorts annually (mostly Iberostar locations), we had our friends join us as they hadn’t been to an all-inclusive in several years. Overall we had an excellent experience and I would give an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 (or 9 out of 10). The resort is absolutely beautiful, especially on the Coral adult-only side. I will share the highlights of our vacation as well as a few items that management should consider to bring our rating to a perfect score. Let’s start with the absolute stars of this resort, the staff that truly go out of their way for their guests. Carmen and Saby provided top-notch service on the beach and at the pool, ensuring my “Bubba” was always full and getting me some pain relief lotion to soothe my sore groin/ back after a fall at the pool. Jorge took very good care of us, always finding us a prime location to lounge by the ocean and setting up our towels. Anselmo provided excellent service for lunch and dinners. I will preface my comments by saying that I worked in the hotel and financial services industry for over 40 years, so I have a keen sense of acceptable levels of customer service. We rewarded staff generously with tips along the way, giving extra to those that provided exceptional service. I will highlight some of the improvements that could be implemented to provide a better client experience: The service for breakfast was somewhat irregular, with one morning waiting 15 minutes to be served our first cup of coffee. This is unacceptable as that is the only service that needs to be provided at a breakfast buffet (on top of clearing plates). The food overall was very good with plenty of choice, but the breakfast buffet needed the most attention. Kitchen staff prepared pancakes and crepes very early in the morning and simply left them under warmers all day. By the time we went down at around 9 am, these were inedible (cold and hard). I would recommend these be cooked per order similar to omelettes. Also, it was baffling to me that they only had a 2-slice toaster for all of the guests instead of an industrial style toaster. The kitchen staff need to be more attentive at refilling the breakfast items like bacon and potatoes as I had to remind them on ant least 3 occasions that they were empty. Also, being a steak enthusiast, I was somewhat disappointed that out of 6 steaks over my 2 week stay, only once my steak was actually cooked to my liking (ordered medium but steaks always overcooked). Although we had reservations for dinner for most of our stay as we are members, it appeared many guests were disappointed in not being able to secure reservations at à-la-carte restaurants. We really appreciated being given priority for seating since we committed a considerable sum to become members. The entertainment provided for guests was for the most part quite good. We liked the daytime pool activities and enjoyed most of the nighttime shows, with the exception of the rock show that we paid extra to attend. The music was very loud and not as varied as we would have liked. It didn’t help that a fight between patrons broke out in front of us, due to a drunk guest spilling his drink on another gentleman. The drunk guest should not have been allowed in the show as he was drunk and belligerent before entering the theatre. We really enjoyed the Super Bowl event with reserved seating provided with bottle service. We had a few other minor issues with miscommunication about restaurant reservations and having to follow up for our luggage to be retrieved at check out, but these issues did not detract from our otherwise superb stay at this resort. We wouldn’t hesitate to return to this resort, especially knowing those few special staff members made our vacation a memorable one. Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 4/5 | Location: 5/5 Rooms I would like to highlight that our 2-week vacation didn’t get off on the right foot, as we were advised by the Prestige Lounge staff that our previously reserved corner unit was unavailable due to “maintenance” reasons. This wasn’t true as I went to that room after check in and guests were in that specific reserved room. Why offer guests to pick their room at booking (in October 2025 by the way) if you will not honour their selection. Our friends also received a different room than the one they reserved. I think they thought they were being accommodating by offering us a rooftop room, but unfortunately this was unacceptable for me due to mobility issues as I couldn’t limb the spiral stairs to reach the rooftop. We accepted staying in this room the first night, but once we also noticed the air conditioning and refrigerator were not working properly, we insisted to be transferred the next day. Although we didn’t get the 11th floor we reserved, our 6th floor corner unit was spectacular. I did appreciate the Prestige staff offering us a complimentary pool cabana as a gesture of goodwill for our troubles.

    Overpriced very noisy hotel/ resort

After many Iberostar resorts over 20 years, the Coral selection was way to expensive for Canadians who have to pay in American dollars. Location was excellent, workers very devoted and friendly. Beds and pillows were not comfortable for a 5*. Room was very humid. Service was excellent though. Only one pool in adult Coral with very loud music everywhere, not providing any quiet places on the entire resort! I do not recommend this place except for parties.
