  Never again

  The suite had mould in the bathroom, stains on the towels, carpet and sofa. The only restaurant open was the Sabor which has a limited menu and the veal was inedible - I couldnt even cut it with a knife. Check-in took 30 minutes. plus problems with car park access and luggage. With hindsight I should have driven back home as we life in Madeira but I had a drink before the meal arrived.

  We Really Enjoyed our Stay at Ziva Madeira

  We are an older family and greatly enjoyed our week at Hyatt Ziva Madeira and will return. We stayed on an all inclusive basis and in two preferred rooms. This is not the Savoy Palace, Reid’s or Cliff Bay and it is not priced at that level so anyone expecting it to be may be disappointed and should pay extra and go to one of those hotels.

  Do not recommend this place, terrible service

  I would not recommend this place if you want to have dinner during your stay. We were there for a couple of days, and for none of those days could book dinner in ANY of the restaurants. The customer service, which generally makes a place a really good memory, was also incredibly poor. If you will have any issues, you can be sure it won't be solved.

  Beautiful room and great kids club but overall disappointing stay

  Beautiful rooms and fantastic kids’ club, but a disappointing overall experience We recently returned from a week’s stay at this four-star all-inclusive resort as a family of four, with two young children. Unfortunately, while there were some genuinely lovely aspects to our holiday, the overall experience was disappointing and fell short of our expectations. Starting with the positives, our room was absolutely beautiful. It was spacious, spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable. The beds were excellent, the quality of the bed linen was lovely, and housekeeping did a fantastic job cleaning the room every day. The standard of accommodation was genuinely five-star in our opinion. The only minor inconsistency was the replenishment of the minibar and coffee supplies, which was rather hit and miss. The kids’ club was another real highlight. The staff were absolutely brilliant, welcoming, enthusiastic and fantastic with the children. Our little boy loved it so much that he wanted to attend every day and always came out happy. We really couldn’t fault the team there. Unfortunately, the rest of the resort didn’t live up to the same standard. Food and dining were by far our biggest disappointments. The hotel advertises unlimited à la carte dining, which was a significant selling point for us. However, upon arrival, we discovered that many of the restaurants were only open once or twice a week, and securing a reservation seemed virtually impossible. We attempted to book as soon as we checked in, but there was no availability showing for our stay. It was only after raising a complaint with Jet2 and speaking directly with the concierge in the Preferred Lounge that we managed to secure two reservations, one at the Japanese restaurant and another at the Mediterranean restaurant. Having to go to these lengths to access something advertised as part of the all-inclusive experience was incredibly frustrating. The buffet restaurant was particularly disappointing. The quality of food was extremely inconsistent, and on some occasions genuinely concerning. My partner was served a beef burger that was completely raw in the middle, and I had salmon that tasted so excessively fishy that I questioned whether it was fresh. We raised these issues with staff but received no meaningful response or resolution. Food is a huge part of a holiday for us, and it was really disappointing to reach a point where we weren’t particularly looking forward to mealtimes. On a more positive note, the beach bar served some lovely food, which we really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the staff there appeared completely overwhelmed, and the service often felt rushed. The resort itself also needs some considerable attention. While our room was beautiful, many of the communal areas felt tired and poorly maintained. Although we saw staff cleaning the swimming pools, the sides of the main pool were visibly dark and slimy, suggesting that these areas weren’t being cleaned thoroughly. Around the pool areas, some of the cushioned daybeds were in a particularly poor condition. Curtains surrounding the beds were broken in places, with visible black mould on the fabric. The cushions themselves also had mould in the creases. These aren’t things you expect to encounter at a four-star resort, and they certainly didn’t make the facilities inviting to use. Entertainment was another area that really let the hotel down. While the daytime kids’ club was excellent, there was very little happening in the evenings, particularly for families with children. We attended one silent disco, which was enjoyable, but otherwise there seemed to be very little organised entertainment. The atmosphere across the resort was often quite flat, and at times it felt rather dull and boring. Combined with the disappointing food, this meant there wasn’t always much to look forward to in the evenings. Our arrival experience was also extremely poor. We arrived in the evening with two tired young children, a pushchair and our luggage. After checking in, we were simply given a room number and a map and effectively told to find our own way. For anyone unfamiliar with the resort, it is incredibly hilly, with numerous steps and changes in level. Trying to navigate an unfamiliar resort in the dark with two small children and a pushchair was far from straightforward. We struggled to find our accommodation and eventually managed to locate a bellboy who kindly helped us. Unfortunately, the member of staff who checked us in seemed completely uninterested in whether we could actually find our room. It was a very poor first impression and hardly the warm welcome we had hoped for. Service throughout the resort was inconsistent. Some members of staff were absolutely wonderful and clearly worked incredibly hard. Others appeared stressed, rushed and overwhelmed. We got the impression that staffing levels may not have been sufficient to deliver the standard of service the hotel promises. There was also a noticeable lack of personal service. During our entire stay, we didn’t really get to know any members of staff, nor did anyone make much effort to engage with us as a family. We appreciate that this isn’t essential, but those little interactions and personal touches are often what make an all-inclusive holiday feel special. Sadly, they were largely missing here. Overall, this hotel has some real strengths, but the experience simply doesn’t match the expectations created by its advertising. We were fortunate to have booked at what we consider a very reasonable price, and in that respect, I do feel we got our money’s worth. However, I’ve since looked at the cost of booking the same holiday again, and it would be approximately £5,000 for our family of four. At that price, I would have been extremely unhappy. The quality of the food, maintenance of the facilities, limited restaurant availability, lack of entertainment and inconsistent service simply do not justify that sort of cost. It’s a shame because the accommodation is genuinely beautiful, the kids’ club team are fantastic, and the resort has the potential to be so much better. However, based on our experience, we wouldn’t choose to return, particularly at the prices currently being advertised.

  Disappointed

  A key reason for choosing this resort was its à la carte restaurants. However, on our first day, there was no availability at any of them for the first three nights. Only after considerable time spent pursuing the matter with reception and the concierge were we offered bookings, and even then at very early times. With generally only two à la carte restaurants open each evening, availability is clearly inadequate for the number of guests. Our experience of the buffet was equally disappointing. Food labels did not match the dishes (health and safety issue), and many advertised items were unavailable. Staffing appeared insufficient, with dishes not replenished promptly and guests left waiting. The overall experience was far below what we expected. We believe the resort is understaffed and appears more focused on cost-cutting than guest experience. The staff were lovely but often appeared overwhelmed and were really trying their best. The resort is in a beautiful location and is well maintained. The beach area is lovely.
