Check in was fine. It was odd that we were moved around to three different tables before we got to our room. They really pressed us to agree to a timeshare presentation after I politely said no four or five times. The woman would not take no for an answer until I got up and left. They’ll offer you free bottle of booze to rent a cabana for 1700 pesos. At checkout my itemized receipt shows 1300 pesos for the vino and 400 for the cabana. So my recommendation is to pay much less for the cabana all day and allow your INCLUDED drinks to keep coming. Alejandro and Martin were absolutely lovely and we did not even have to order our drinks. They were by (almost too often) to refresh our drinks. We just loved them. Michele is also worth mentioning as a very hard working, kind staff member. They really were all hustling and ensuring we had everything we could need or want. Very clean and friendly however very lacking in nightly entertainment and would agree that food is hit or miss. Tempest definitely the best for us. Unfortunately the Lola’s restaurant was closed during our stay and this was not info we were provided before hand. Staying here for a week with only two restaurant options outside the buffet was a bit disappointing. Room service food quality is consistently cold and dry. Social bar was excellent. Give them ingredients you like and they’ll whip you up a magical cocktail! My husband was very ill on our check out day and the staff would not accommodate a late check out of even one hour like I requested. As well, it took three different calls to concierge to get robes to our room and have our room cleaned. The sliding glass door of our room was broken and someone came by to look, saying they'll be back to fix it and this never happened. The beach was very nice and clean and the pool was refreshing and incredibly welcoming on the hot days. Chair game is real. Unfortunately the staff does not seem to monitor unused chairs. People really get up at 6am and claim chairs they don’t even end up using ! Coatis were not an issue. They’re adorable and if you think otherwise you probably think panda bears are gross too. The staff did have a dog and hawks making their rounds to keep the coatis away. Overall we would not stay here again. We preferred Secrets Akumal where you can find a lounger anytime of day and the entertainment and restaurants are better. Overall review of the resort is 3.5 star.

Pros and Cons of Hyatt Zilara
Pros Beautiful and clean resort with friendly helpful staff especially the entertainment staff (Reyas is the best!) and club lounge staff. Btw the club snacks are delicious. The pool beautiful and clean but a little chilly, not cold. Same for swim out pools. The drinks were pretty good, my favorite for the week was the Blue Hawaiian. Yum! The rooms are clean, spacious and have everything you need. So So The beach is ok but lots of wind and waves when we were there and sargassum was definitely present but not overwhelming. Cons Only 2 restaurants during our stay, Lola Beach was under renovations. They offered lunch options outside that were just ok. The buffet was very so so, not impressive in the least bit. Capri was very underwhelming for both dinner and breakfast, not worth it. I didn’t like the food. The only good choice was Tempest restaurant. The hibachi dinner was amazing! As for entertainment, I understand this is a small resort with an older vibe but you got to have atleast 1 party. Very disappointing. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a resort without a beach party. On a more positive note, the culinary experiences were very good and the Star Show was fantastic! I would give the resort a 3.5. The limited and underwhelming food options and no beach party or any party while we were there were the only reason.

Wonderful trip - I would go back.
My sister and I went to celebrate my 40th birthday together and had a great time. The place was lovely. Clean, not too crowded (especially for spring break weeks). We found our room to be nice. Not much to the mini bar - could use some more in room snacks. Room service was great (but does take a bit to get there). We found it to be quiet (some places get really wild at night - this isn't one of those places). They work really hard to keep the beach clean of lots of seaweed. The food and drinks were enjoyable. Shout out to Alexander at the bar mixing up just the right balance for sangria. All the mixologists can make anything you want! The entertainment team were wonderful!! Dayanna, Hector, Edgar put on some great experiences. Their classes are fun - bracelet making, macrame class, salsa dancing, guacamole, wine tasting, yoga class, casino night. We did it all. But the app did not help. Just be patient, and double check with the entertainment team if you need to sign up -- and look ahead on the schedule to do so! It felt like there was much fun to be had, and I never understood why it was so limited to 10 people -- why not set up some more tables and let more people join in the fun, you all are doing a great job! Almost everyone on staff were pleasant and helpful. It was rare not to interact with staff who were not smiling and kind, checking on if you need anything. We happened to be there when they had a guest yoga instructor - Molly - she was exceptional. A beautiful experience of yoga by the waves and in the wind. LOVED having her as an instructor during our whole stay! I would say one of our frustrations was the app - sometimes it said you did not need to sign up for some classes/activities and it turned out you did. Other times you needed to sign up for something and there just weren't enough slots. Similarly, we couldn't get into the one restaurant you need reservations for at any point in our stay. But you can still dine at the restaurant. The other frustration was that we happened to arrive from our LONG travel of multiple flights to find no restaurants were open, and we had to was from 4pm until the first restaurant opened at 6. No one told us that you could get sandwiches at the coffee shop. PRO TIP for anyone who arrives during that time. Go to get a snack at the coffee shop. I recommend telling travelers who arrive where they can go to get food asap.
