  Three Room moves, over Priced, and Left in Tears at Reception – Hyatt, I Expected Better

  We paid nearly $5,000 for a five-night stay at Hyatt, a brand I had always considered reputable and trustworthy. I booked with confidence, expecting a certain standard of accommodation and service. Unfortunately, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. Our first room’s key cards didn’t work, and the second room was dirty, with stained floors, dust and dead flies. Rather than resolving the situation, reception offered us an upgrade for an additional $1,000, on top of the almost $5,000 we’d already paid. When I declined and asked to speak to the manager, I was ignored for almost an hour. The receptionist repeatedly blamed me for refusing his offers, eventually walking away and leaving me standing there. I was so humiliated and frustrated by the treatment that I broke down in tears at reception. Meanwhile, my daughter was left alone in the room, where housekeeping entered without knocking. Security subsequently arrived, demanding identification and questioning why she was occupying the room. Only when another receptionist noticed how distressed I was did someone finally intervene and arrange a clean room. I travel internationally more than 20 times a year and have never experienced such dismissive, upsetting customer service. What makes this particularly disappointing is that I chose Hyatt because I trusted the brand. I expected professionalism, comfort and reassurance that any problems would be handled with care. Instead, I was made to feel like an inconvenience for simply expecting a clean room and basic courtesy. Mistakes happen in hotels, but how staff respond says everything about the standards of the establishment. I never imagined a hotel carrying the Hyatt name would leave a paying guest feeling so humiliated and unwelcome. Almost $5,000 for five nights, three rooms, an attempted $1,000 upsell and an hour of being ignored until I was reduced to tears. Hyatt, your reputation was the reason I booked. This experience is the reason I’ll think twice before booking again. An overpriced, dated hotel and an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Save your money, your time and your tears.

  Favorite Midtown Hotel

  Our usual great stay at Hyatt Grand Central. Midtown location is close to everything. The direct connection to Grand Central makes getting anywhere in the city (and beyond) fast & easy. Hotel staff are always accommodating. The guestrooms are spacious and beautifully furnished.

  Not helpful let alone being caring as the basis of any service industry

  very unhelpful front desk in explaining basic information not to mention about the details and the need to know's. Late check out was availabe to a lot of my colleagues and I asked around the same time, if not earlier, yet I was told to pay a fee. Storage fee of USD4 in cash only was not heard of by many.

  Good nice hotel but can do better.

  Simple business hotel. Ideal for corporate clients. Not as it seems in photos. Large lobby with little to offer in terms of somwhere to sit or entertainment. Staff in cafes/ market place seem upset most of the time and lack customer service. Rooms are good specious with comfy bed and bathroom. Location is amazing with main attractions all walking distance. Next to grand central so train to and from airport is a no brainer.
