First time ever staying at the RIU Plaza Guadalajara and it was amazing. Staff was super friendly and helpful since the moment we arrived, they answered all of our questions. Only problem was that it rained a little bit in the night and rooftop bar closed early even though it said they closed at 2am they were closed by 12 midnight, we were only able to take pictures.

Apr 09, 2026Terrible Experience – No AC and Unacceptable Service
I had a very disappointing experience at the Riu Plaza Guadalajara. This was a costly 4-night stay, and unfortunately, it felt like a complete waste of money. The biggest issue was the extreme temperatures in the room. There was essentially no functioning AC, making the room unbearably hot. I couldn’t comfortably stay in the room for long periods, which completely ruined my ability to rest and enjoy the trip. On top of that, the elevator situation was unacceptable. Wait times were consistently between 15–30 minutes, which made simply getting in and out of the hotel frustrating and time-consuming. What made things worse was the staff. When I raised these issues, they were unhelpful and came across as rude, showing little concern for resolving the situation or improving my stay. After my stay, I reached out to management to resolve the issue. The company initially offered 1,500 points or a one-night stay as compensation, which I declined because I do not plan to stay with this brand again. I requested a partial refund instead, but this was denied. They simply reoffered the same compensation, which I feel does not reflect the severity of the issues or the fact that I paid for four nights and could not properly enjoy my stay. Many of my peers that were also staying at this residence, were experiencing extreme temperatures. Overall, this was a very poor experience from both a comfort and service standpoint. I would not recommend staying here, and I will not be returning to any RIU property in the future.

When I arrived I was told the AC was not working therefore slept in a warm room the first night and it was not comfortable at all. I thought maybe the front desk would compensate me in some way for the inconvenience but that didn’t happen. The hotel over all is amazing. The staff are very friendly, food is great, I made good use of the gym, the rooftop bar is very unique, and the ladies who clean the rooms are top notch. The location is prime as it is close to most locations you’d like to see and visit. The bed and pillows were not ideal for me. The bed was very stiff and the pillows were very flat. I had to fold them in half to give my neck so support as I tried to sleep at night. My one week stay there was great apart from that. I’d stay again when I’m in town and would probably bring my own pillow. Top notch hotel that will meet all your needs and the service is high level.

First time at Hotel Riu
I came to stay at hotel RIU in Guadalajara for my friends’s wedding for the weekend. The property is beautiful and has a nice amount of amenities, including a souvenir store, a bar, live music, a pool and a rooftop bar. The staff was very friendly and helpful, always asking if I needed help getting a cab and providing room service as well as cleaning our room when we left for the day. I will highly recommend staying at this location as it is very central to the city of Guadalajara.

Mar 22, 2026Too hot to sleep at RIU Hotel Guadalajara, Mexico
We haven’t slept comfortably for 3 nights. It is 84 degrees and our room is on the east and the air conditioning has not worked in the ENTIRE hotel (Guadalajara, Mexico)for the last 4 days. The management did not bother to proactively acknowledge OR update the guests on when it will be fixed. I had to go to the front desk twice and answer several questions about the legitimacy of my reservation (odd) before the clerk would admit the AC was broken and there was no idea on when it will be restored. We are here for a wedding, paid premium price and it’s our first stay at a RIU HOTEL. This is not a good first impression. RESOLVED: although we asked for a 20% discount the manager did promise 15% and we find that acceptable.
