7.5/10 - I'd recommend
Overall, I'd recommend this hotel and would rate it 7.5/10 Pros Black out curtains, strong power in shower, lovely shower gel. Pepes corner alters food, so late morning there's a continental breakfast, then snacks, then lunch cart etc. Great buffet Quality and restaurant food. Housekeeping lovely, clean room very well and are friendly. 24 hour bar! Heated pool! Kids sandy playground. Beach across from hotel. Strip is 15 mins walk away or a €4 taxi.. airport only 10 minutes drive away / €15 taxi. Entertainment team energetic and friendly. Kids love them. Cons No straws on resort so cocktails/mocktails difficult to drink. No body lotion or slippers so bring your own. Quality of toilet paper is poor. They charge extortionate amount (€16 per person per hour) for late checkout - sone families paid over €100 just for couple hours which i thought was ridiculous. At buffet, whilst eating dessert (so clearly almost finished) with toddler and heavily pregnant wife (who's slow) we were asked to leave as it was closing. Their English wasn't great so I was unsure if they were wanting us to stop eating and just leave, but this happened three times and to others too and isn't great customer service. Self-service for drinks sometimes annoying when eating dinner. The self-service soft drinks are EXTREMELY gassy so I preferred to get at bar which can get busy, especially if only 1 person serving.

Gluten free
Here at the moment. The hotel is very big but very clean and well maintained. My only complaint is the lack of gluten free food. I've stayed at various riu hotels and this is not up to standards. Yes you can order a pizza or pasta in advance but from the main buffet especially at lunch there is very little choice. Staff are helpful but food not great

Unacceptable Room Conditions and Even Worse Follow-Up
We recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience, not only during our stay but also in how our complaint was handled afterwards. On our first day, we discovered paint and debris falling from the ceiling onto our bed and pillows. We reported this to reception at around 3pm and were assured it would be dealt with. However, when we returned to the room around midnight, nothing had been done. The bed was still unclean and further debris had fallen onto the sheets. We contacted reception again and, while the staff member was apologetic, the only solution offered was replacement bed sheets and bottled water, which never arrived. The following day, we were told an alternative room would be available to view. When we went to see it, we were shocked to find the room had not been cleaned and was still in use from previous guests. We returned to reception to report this and eventually spoke with a manager, who was polite and acknowledged the situation should not have happened. We remained in our original room while it was eventually repaired and cleaned. We fully understand that maintenance issues can happen in any hotel. However, what was most disappointing was the lack of follow-through, poor communication, and the way the situation was handled from a customer service perspective. Multiple opportunities to resolve the issue properly were missed. Following our stay, we submitted a formal complaint. While we received apologies, the response was largely generic and did not reflect the seriousness of the issues experienced. The only compensation offered was loyalty points for a future stay, which we did not feel was appropriate given the circumstances. When we requested a more reasonable resolution, our complaint was effectively closed without any meaningful consideration. Overall, while some staff were polite, the experience was let down by poor organisation, lack of accountability, and an unsatisfactory response to our complaint.

Best hotel in lanzarote
Just got back from lanzarote where we stayed in the riu paraiso, porta del carmen. What a fantastic hôtel. A warm welcome from the front desk, where unfortunately my payment card did not work due to a problem with my french bank, but this did not cause any issues with the helpful staff. Just come back tomorrow and pay!. The rest of the riu staff were excellent throughout the holiday, we got smiles and greetings from all of the team, cleaners, gardeners, bar staff, resto..... really made welcome. The food in the resto was first class, lots of choice different meats, fish every day, loads of fruit and veg plus a selection for végétarien in a seperate area. As well as the main resto there are 2 special seperate restos offering asian or canaries menus. There are 4 pools of which 2 are heated, plus kiddy pools. Activities offered by the staff included stretching, aquagym, darts, archery. Just before lunch games such as boules, tennis, etc Every evening there are 2 stage areas usually with either a group or singer on one. The main salle is where the entertainment team put on shows from singing dancing magiciens a different show each night. Kids club, plus activities for younger members. Pool tables, table tennis, tennis, beach volley Ball....... You exit the complex and across the road is the beach and 5 mins walk into the centre of the town. Although its a big hotel the personal service shone through. It was our wedding anniversary and we found champagne and flowers in the room on arrival and again on the day of our anniversary with a small personal noté from the management team. If you are planning a stay in lanzarote I really recommend this hotel. First rate. No idea where they get the staff from or how they motivate them but they have a winning formule that we have seen in all the riu hotels we have stayed in. Thanks

Lovely Hotel!
We stayed from the 1st of April to the 8th. We had a great time at RIU paraiso! It’s a very large resort with 4 big pools, and throughly enjoyed the entertainment too, which has shows every night from magic shows to ABBA tribute acts. We found the food to be great with plenty of options and throughly enjoyed the Asian buffet restaurant! The rooms are cleaned everyday with fresh towels provided. Every staff member we interacted with was extremely friendly with lots of activities to do throughout the day too, we loved the aqua aerobics. However, the pools were very cold, they had 2 heated pools and 2 unheated pools but still found the heated pools to be very cold unfortunately despite the lovely weather we had! We also had to have the aircon off after the first night as it made me quite poorly. Apart from that we had a great time! Thank you so much for a lovely stay.
