    Worst experience

We were returned from the gate at 2 am in the morning because my fiancé name was not on reservation although we left her passport and info at the time of check in earlier. We had to drive an hour to find another hotel to spend the night. The staff was beyond rude and unprofessional and put us in very unsafe situation.

    Just average

We booked the Hard Rock Hotel through Tui for my partners 40th birthday and spent 7 nights in Cancun across January. I’ve seen mixed reviews for this hotel so I wanted to write an honest review. We arrived quite late on the first night due to flight delays. The hotel is about 20 mins drive from the airport, located within the hotel zone of Cancun. Our first impressions of seeing the hotel from the coach were good! The hotel has a lovely drive up to the main entrance, the exterior is well kept & tidy. Reception was also very clean and we we’re definitely impressed. We had no issues with check in. Probably best to note here that we were all inclusive visitors (not members or legendary etc) We’d booked an ocean view room which we received, number 664 right in the middle. First impressions of the room were that it was a good size, clean & well equipped however it is dated with dark painted doors & furniture. The novelty of the hot tub in the room really wears off very quickly, we used it once in the whole week. I really think it would be nicer to have a proper bath instead. The shower was lovely though. During our stay we had no real issues with the room except a small leak from the air con & the noise (see below). The beds were a pleasant surprise, they are comfy! I mention noise above as this was a big factor in our stay and is the main reason we probably wouldn’t book this hotel again. The first night, obviously we were delayed which wasn’t the hotels fault but the music from outside was soooo loud we just couldn’t sleep until it all stopped. This was a reoccurrence every night on top of the howling from the wind (it’s VERY windy especially at night due to the coastline). We wanted an ocean view room for the view but now we’d have probably preferred a lagoon view just to avoid the noise. During our visit we ate in all of the restaurants including the buffet for breakfast and we had drinks from each bar. Even though we aren’t members, we had absolutely no issues with getting a table at night. Having said that, we did come down to eat dinner at around 630pm as we eat at that time at home, so it was quieter. The Ciao restaurant was our favourite! The food quality and service here was always good. I’d imagine if you’re staying for 2 weeks the food might become a tad boring, I would recommend they change the menu’s up a little or add more choice but overall we were happy with the food & drinks. Like I said, we weren’t members but the staff still treated us extremely well. We did tip (mainly our evening meals) I’m not sure if that was a factor for the good service. Nothing was too much for the staff and they are a credit to the hotel. The housekeeping team did a great job too and made sure all our in room drinks were stocked. We also ordered room service a couple of times which was always quick to arrive! One thing to note is that the bars don’t give you bottles of water on request, you have to order those via room service. I ended up with a poorly tummy 4 days into our visit and asked for a bottle of water (I’d been drinking the water they served at the bar prior to my tummy issue so no idea if this is tap so decided to ask for a bottle to be safe) and was refused, they told me the on site shop sold them. We went there to discover that a 500ml bottle cost £7 (yes that’s right)! It’s extortionate so avoid that! The outside of the hotel is well kept, however there is some damage to the pool and several umbrellas were broken so you’d have to get a wooden drink stirrer to hold it in place. The pool was always a nice refreshing temperature. We only had one day where we struggled to get a sun bed but as we only went out at around 11am to get one, I’d say that isn’t bad going. If you want a quieter day, avoid the left hand side as this is where the DJ is based and again, it’s VERY noisy! No chance to have a little snooze or a relax if that’s your intention. The day we struggled, we decided to get one of the canopy beds down on the beach. It was $66 for the day and you were given a ice bag full of drinks and a bottle of sparkling wine plus food & drinks service, extra towels and pillows. The beach itself is stunning! Exactly like the pictures. Overall we had a good trip, but for the reasons listed, we probably wouldn’t stay at this hotel again however if you are looking for a party atmosphere, or are with a group of friends etc, this would be the perfect location.

    Great trip

It was a great experience with family. The hotel was a bit outdated compared to others. Staff is great and friendly. People in Mexico are great and welcoming. The hotel could be upgraded though. I did encounter a bad experience with one of the time share people to the point I got in to an argument. I didn’t appreciate being pressured in to buying a time share and being forced to eat breakfast with them. They blow up your room telephone if you don’t show up. Good thing I speak Spanish fluently and was able to defend myself and get out of the breakfast. But to others that are going AVOID the breakfasts for presentations. Other than that, staff at the pool, beach and restaurants are excellent !
