    Lovely place

Fabulous hotel in a beautiful location, the staff work very hard but I feel the little touches of a 5 star may be missing sometimes due to the size of the hotel and number of guests. Nothing that majorly affected our stay but it took two days of speaking to reception and the concierge to get an iron for our room and on day 3 we reported that the jacuzzi function on the bathtub in our room wasn’t working and was told this would be resolved - by the end of our stay we had no update on if this had been looked at but it still wasn’t working and we had a couple of days that the minibar wasn’t replenished. This definitely didn’t take away from the brilliant stay we had, we discovered that the white sands buffet had great options but was much quieter than la hacienda and we never had to queue for a table there so used this most days, the pool area at white sands was also lovely and much quieter than at colonial. We spent most days at the beach which we loved, towards the end of our stay there was a lot less seaweed so perfect for swimming and relaxing and we enjoyed the hamburgers and ice cream from the beach bar. We found that Sumptuori the Japanese al a carte restaurant was head and shoulders above the others - would highly recommend booking in at a show cooking table it was amazing! The tempura ice cream is to die for. La adelita and el dorado are also both great so would recommend booking into those. Rooms in the kantenah were spotlessly clean, spacious and modern with plenty of wardrobe space and in a good location for the beach and restaurants. Carts go around the whole resort so it’s easy to go from one hotel to another - can have a bit of a wait on the night time but never too long. I would recommend taking a flask or large beaker to be filled up at the bars so that you don’t have to go backwards and forwards for water so often. Wildlife is amazing here - the animals never bother you and are great to see. The Tui website mentioned there are crocodiles but after being unable to find them we asked at colonials concierge desk and were told they’ve been removed from the hotel. Sports bar was cool and the food was nice too. We enjoyed having breakfast at el gran Azul as could sit outside, it was always very very quiet and was only open a couple of days a week. The app is a brilliant way to find your way around, see what’s open and when and what is going on around the hotel. Overall we had a brilliant holiday. Full of relaxation which is just what we wanted. This hotel was recommended to us by family who have stayed multiple times and we would definitely return but maybe to TRS next time as we love the grounds but are curious to try the premium facilities.

    A perfect family holiday

We've just a couple of days left of a two week holiday here in Mexico. We came with our daughter her partner and our grandson and upgraded to the family selection upon arrival where we could have had adjoining rooms, however opted for separate rooms close to one another. As part of your family selection you have a butler allocated to you who can arrange more or less anything you need, such as special requests for your room, booking buggies to transport you about and restaurant bookings. Our butlers, Ceaser and Edwardo have been fantastic. The buffets are amazing with a great choice of freshly cooked food and the staff are all friendly and helpful, especially Fernando who works in the Nest Buffet. The family select have they're own pool and beach area, the pool staff are fantastic, especially Leo, who always ensure you have a drink when you want. We've enjoyed our visits to the various restaurants, especially La Boheme, a French style restaurant where we were very well looked after by Luis the waiter. Last night we visited the Sumptori restaurant which was amazing, we've been to show cooking restaurants before but this was by far the best and entertaining, looked after by Danial the waiter. We had read some negative comments before coming and suspect some people are just unlucky or like to moan, we've had no issues whatsoever. The evening entertainment is also excellent with the programme repeating itself every 7 days, so if you miss something one week, you can catch it the following week on a 2 week stay. What really has made our holiday is the friendly staff and well kept facilities, the place is massive and it's easy to find a nice quiet area or the opposite if that's what you like, we like the beach in the morning as it's quiet, there is some seaweed on the beach, but it tends to go to one side only so you can still have a dip, this is a natural phenomenon which affects the whole area not just our hotel. They have a dedicated team constantly clearing the affected area, it certainly hasn't been an issue for us. The kids have an amazing time with all sorts of entertainment and clubs to keep them occupied. There are areas for adults only too, although we've tended to keep to the family orientated areas. We would definitely come back and stay here in the future.

    Beautiful place

So to get the bad things out of the way first The hotel is understaffed in certain areas - you could be waiting for a drink at the pool bar 30 mins + BUT there are other bays you can get a drink from at the poolside so it’s not a major issue also if you order a drink from your sun-bed you could be waiting a while for it to materialise Queues at the pool bar don’t exist, it’s basically whoever shouts the loudest gets served first Our mini fridge in our room wasn’t refilled for 4 of the days we were there - we were there 2 weeks Our room also wasn’t serviced for 2 of the days we were there The queue to get into the Hacienda (buffet) for breakfast can be ridiculously long when you can see empty tables everywhere so this can be annoying especially when some people just walk in and sit down and nobody challenges them to join the queue The positives It’s a beautiful beautiful place. The use across the 4 different hotels is great and the beach is beautiful - yes, there is an issue with seaweed at the beach but they do work hard to reduce it but let’s face it, they are battling with nature so they do what they can Plenty of sun-beds available The staff are lovely The food is good and the restaurants are lovely Rooms are clean and the beds are so comfortable We absolutely loved our two weeks here and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. My only small Complaint is that this was our honeymoon and we got given VIP wristbands but it gave us absolutely nothing in addition to what everyone else had - I didn’t see the point in the VIP bands and nothing special was offered for our honeymoon at all.

    Mexico

Great hotel and fabulous staff. They couldn't do enough for you. Hotel complex massive. There is plenty wildlife to see. The only thing is it takes about an hour and a half from airport. Visit to fifth avenue is really worth a visit. Cocktail choice is wonderful.

    Fantastic hotel. Would definitely recommend.

A lovely family hotel, very clean, staff very polite and helpful. Rooms are large, we stayed 2 adults and 1 child, didn’t upgrade to FS and didn’t feel the need to. We were close to both beach and pool, lots of places to eat and drink. Great value for money
