Average Luxury Hotel for Vail
For Vail, I think that a 3 out of 5 or Average rating is fair. It probably would rate a 4 in most other locations. But price-wise for Vail, the Grand Hyatt seems reasonable on an extreme scale in a place where nightly rates are generally beyond outrageous. My rating is largely based on signs of wear. The carpets in the halls seem a bit worn. The wallpaper a bit drab - and wallpaper to begin with. Our mattress was quite comfortable and the bathroom nice if on the tight side. The room was small by current standards but sufficient. The furniture in the room seemed dated. And most telling was the window which had handles to open but not handle to close and a broken hatch besides which required a visit from maintenance on a cold night. (At least post a sticker: “Please do not open.”) The phone to call for maintenance functioned poorly - but maintenance came quickly. The ski room could also use a redesign as it became crowded too easily. Hotels at Vail with a ski in and out feature should have an exceptional ski room. The infinity pool was nice enough if not grand but the hot tub was unappealing. The onsite chairlift is old but functional. They have a regular bus service through town, the staff was friendly, and the food was nice with a first class, new sushi restaurant. The spa seems to cover all you’d expect. The hotel is on one end of Vail meaning you have to travel to get into town, if you’re looking for the town. But you can spend a week of skiing just staying and eating etc. around the hotel. They could replace the windows and upgrade the carpet but you can spend a nice ski vacation at the Grand Hyatt as is, but it’s just not quite the highest end place you expect when you think Vail.

Best skiing ski out experience in Vail. Hyatt rewards are the bomb!
Get the suite, but really this place is on par with The Peaks in telluride and The Cliff Lodge in Snowbird, but with all the benefits of a Hyatt loyalty program. I’d rather “ski in and ski out” here than anywhere in vail. Hot tubs were HOT! New lobby lounge furniture was much better than last year.

Nice Hotel ignoring breakfast value
Very nice hotel, and convenient to the slopes through the dedicated lift. It is a great home base and makes skiing easy with the built in rental facility, and the extra services for keeping skis and warming our boots at night. If you are not a hyatt globalist, the breakfast is a scandal. It's weird because bar and restaurant prices are kind of normal for lunch and dinner, but the breakfast buffet is lackluster and it is over $50/person, and that doesn't include eggs to order.

Good stay, but there could be improvements.
The hotel is beautiful and we loved that Venture Sports is on property to rent skis and boots and that there is a chairlift right outside. It is important to note that you need to be a decent skier to fully take advantage of ski-in/ ski-out access due to needing to take a blue run in to the hotel. It is a little far from the main part of the mountain so you need to add some extra time to ski over to get to the main runs. Also, it is located away from Vail Village. They do a great job providing a shuttle bus to get people back and forth from Vail Village. We never waited long. Service was good overall, but Gessner Grill seems to need more help in the mornings when it is busy. We would order coffee and it would come after we were finished eating. Also, it seems like housekeeping is short staffed because there were 2 days that we left to ski early in the morning and our room was still not cleaned at 4 pm. My biggest complaint is that there are not enough washers and dryers and they are not convenient for most rooms as they are all located near the pool. It was a very long walk to drag our laundry to these laundry rooms. I had to stand around for over an hour waiting for a washer and then another 45 minutes waiting for a dryer. Time is money when you are on vacation. Also, people were literally fighting over getting a washer. People really need to wash laundry on ski vacations and it would make a significant difference if there were more washers and dryers in multiple locations. It is so nice that these are free for guests, but I would happily pay something if it meant they would add more washers and dryers in additional areas.

Grand Hyatt Vail is the best!
Our 3rd year in a row visiting the Grand Hyatt for New Years! This hotel did not disappoint! The property is beautiful and located right on the creek. There are two restaurants onsite and both are wonderful! The hotel is very well kept, clean and updated. This is one of our favorites Hyatts in the US. The service is excellent and the amenities are great!
