Nice but too pricey
Stayed for a week as part of a professional continuing education course. We did get a fairly good room rate. Positives: gorgeous grounds and pool area, pool and bar staff were exceptional, location. Negatives: check was horrible, price price price, rooms are dated, check out. The opening experience was a grumpy attendant when we drove up who complained that we wanted to grab some things before we took our bags out. He complained about the 20 ft walk in the sun to our car if we parked first. Should not have been this difficult. While we received a favourable room rate the cost of everything at the resort is very high (from food to drinks to onsite store). Compared to similar locations Fairmont seems to be a little out of sync. The rooms are nice but outdated in terms of amenities especially tech. Similarly priced resorts now have smart tv’s and a host os charging options for the many devices people travel with. Also the fridge was smaller than any bar fridge I have ever seen. Finally we asked for a late check out and we’re told since we were getting a conference rate there was only so much they could do. Interesting since the conference was th3 main occupant of the hotel. Overall with the exception of the grumpy attendant the staff was amazing. The concierge was great at informing of local attractions and Derek at the beach bar was amazing. Sadly the value is just not there for this Fairmont and when in the area again we would look at a Vrbo

Pleasant stay
Very nice property. Check in staff are mediocre. All other staff on the property were great. Private beach is lovely and so is the breakfast buffet. It’s a nice spot but it’s very pricey compared to Mexico equivalent resorts for example. Black out curtains in rooms would be better.

Nice return to the big island and the Fairmont Orchid
We had a wonderful stay on the Fairmont Gold floor. The concierge team was great, particularly Keisha, Juliana and Kristin, although all of the staff in the Gold lounge was great. The hotel is beautiful and we had wonderful weather.

Mostly great except check in and internet.
Great food and property. Painful check in and miserable 1990s speed internet. Checkin took 45 minutes with an intransigent front desk person. Internet was often down or so slow I couldn’t even get email. At the cost of the room per day and the resort free one does expect good internet.

No hospitality
I was very disappointed they have discontinued their hospitality suite/services for departing guests. They have always had this before on multiple previous stays here. For a hotel of this level and quality, especially this location that is unacceptable and despite this being an otherwise nice hotel that is a dealbreaker and I won’t return. Many flights from Hawaii are evening flights so guests stay at the pool/beach/restaurant for the afternoon before catching flights. About 5 pm there was a line of unhappy guests waiting to change clothes in the single pool toilet stall without a shower or freshening up.
