What a getaway, very relaxing even though there for business reasons
People ultimately are what makes a place extra special. Hugo who worked at the Carnival at Dreams Vallarta Bay was one of those people, definitely went the extra mile when a friend & I were asking for extras. He was quick and prompt, doing more than what we asked him to do. I had difficulties with registration (not their fault; some banking issues) and Julia who worked registration was a big help--very thankful for her also.

Dreams & Secrets do come true!
We stayed at Dreams, but ended up getting a pass to go to Secrets because of a room issue, mis communication. They offered that to us. We could use pool and eat over on that side! It was the way to go. The food @ Dreams was only ok. Secrets was better, over all food was just ok to me. I will say I am picky!! However we had a Butler who was amazing, made the trip well worth it Jose Becerra the Butler was over the top with such kindness, helpful & basically did it all. From making reservations to anything & everything. What a guy as well as Carlos Miranda. I will definitely seek him out again next year!! The rooms were good, we weren't in there a lot! EVERYONE WAS always so helpful & friendly I wish they would bring all their kindness to the world, they hold high standards! P.s. Never do tge 90 minute time share gig its a waste of time & rip off!!! Thanks Dreams & Secrets for an amazing week!!!

Escaping sargassam and trying the Pacific side of Mexico
Resort is nice and in the heart of the bay. People friendly. Pros: 1. beach waiter, Junior, who made the last 3 days special. 2. Food, especially breakfast buffet and a birthday dinner with singing waiters. 3. No wristbands or dinner reservations. Cons: 1. Leak in our room on day 2 [massive requiring maintenance and housekeeping to fix]. 2. Rocks in beach waves first few days. 3. Not getting partial credit for first missed day due to weather flight cancellation [I asked and Costco Travel inquired too]. Likely will stay at a Dreams/Secrets resort again, but not this one. Major construction of part of pool deck done during our stay but we managed throught it - just very loud. Project turned out nicely.

Safety
Property was great, nice rooms, clean place, decent food. Overall a nice place. Unfortunately a bartender by the name of Sergio, with tattoos all over, was extremely inappropriate with my partner. Asked her to go visit him without me, to take shots with him, to leave me somewhere else, he did not stop soliciting her. Definitely not the type of behavior you expect or welcome when visiting a nice place in an attemp to feel safe and go relax. My partner felt uneasy and ruined what should have been a relaxing time. You can't have your workers being inappropriate with women or any guests for that matter.

Average at best and could be better with a little attention to details
Some positives but negatives outweigh them to give it anything more than a 3 since you are spending so much time and money at the resort. Starting with the positives: Room: great view, comfortable bed and the ability to sleep with the doors open to hear the ocean was fantastic. Plus Elsa did a fantastic job on our room everyday. Location: close town if you want to walk (45-60 min depending on how far down the Malecon you want to go) or a $6 taxi/Uber ride. Important option for us as it allows you to getaway from seeing the same people & eating the same food everyday. Food for the most part was good. Breakfast: Good selection of food. Secrets staff definitely more upbeat and energetic than Dreams, which was refreshing. Capers: food was good. Francisco’s service was top notch! Castaways: one day was good, next day was average. Grill: standard fare (burgers, chips, pizza) if you don’t want to sit down in the restaurant. Himitsu had a few good options. Pool staff: always hustling, taking care of everyone and making sure your drinks are full. VIP: ability to go over to the Secrets side ($50/day/room) is a good option at the end of the week if you want a different pool experience. Negatives focus mostly on the pool/beach area where we planned to spend 6+ hours per day relaxing, which is why it is hard to overlook. Pool: cleanliness is lacking. A lot of foreign objects floating around and sticking to the side of the pools (both sides; Dreams & Secrets) which is nasty. More attention to cleaning needed. Pool bathrooms: YUK! Women’s had no running water for part of our stay. Men’s were not cleaned regularly and lights didn’t work in stalls (OK if you want to go in the dark). Beach chairs: hard to find one not broken, which makes them all very uncomfortable and takes away an option to hang out somewhere different. Beach vendors: constantly meandering around the chairs/palapas, which needs to be monitored. I am OK with them selling their wares, but I don’t need them in my face wandering around my chair while I am trying to relax.
