The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I am going to tell it the way it is. So buckle up this may be a bumpy ride. I want to do this in order of my title so the Good. The grounds are a 10 plus. Well maintained nice view of the coast and the countless number of ships lining up to go through the Panama Canal. The Beach is Not too bad just be careful of the rocks on the beach. I say to wear water shoes, just to be on the safe side. Some parts are good, just beware. The Bad. Not the fault of the hotel but the process coming into Panama customs whas a nightmare. The took over 2 hours. They fingerprint you take your pics. It was very, very slow. Then the bus ride again not anyone's fault but that took over 2 hours because of traffic a road closure. We were tired since we were up at 3am and got to the hotel at 9pm. So tired we just went to our room Now let's do a little ugly. Our room smelled like mould and our bed DIDN'T have a bed sheet. and only one towel and believe me what I am saying. Our room was not very clean. Dust, crumbs and no bed sheet. Disgusting. We did not go to complain just went to bed... The Good we went on 3 tours all were fantastic Indigenous tour was amazing loved it Rain Forest and monkey Island Tour was amazing. But the stop for us to eat was OMG so good. I will get back to the food later. Old city Tour and Panama Canal and a movie narrated by Morgan Freeman in 3D was excellent also was very nice was the hotel where they filmed James Bond. 5 Stars... The Bad The food was really not that good. It was average. Some items were to salty while other food items was tasteless. So what I don't like is... Well the breakfast if you want a fresh omelette, the lady placed dollar bills for tipping. No one carries cash and she did not speak english. Also she uses a ton of oil, no other options and she slaps it on thick yuck... I did finally broke down and complained. I spoke to a Carlos and he referred me to Ingrid. I know they tried to make my stay comfortable. But I know that this hotel is in a transition change. I can tell. Less staff or not well trained staff. I know this place can be runned a lot better. The Bad I went to the French Restaurant and well it is not French except the French Onion soup but that was horrible. What was really bad. I was refused entry for wearing open toe expensive shoes. And not a button down shirt. I ran to change quickly thinking the food was going to be great. Instead it was so bad that we left and went to another restaurant which was only a little better. Why do they concentrate on etire. They should put more effort in quality of food.. The Ugly My wife had dozens of bites on her legs. I swear they may be bed bugs but I did not get any and we were always together. Also the Ugly when leaving we found a place where mold was forming. On the drawers, the sides had mold. The Good Ingrid she really tried her best to accommodate. Always checking up on us and always asking if we need anything. The Bad Do not use there driving service. Although he is very nice you pay 5 times more. Use uber it is only $5.80 to go to town I was charge $25 I would not go back here unfortunately my dreams were not all good ones. the place is safe the entertainment sucks If all you want to do is drink and lay by the pool then this is your destiny. Pool staff are very friendly and always eager to get you a drink. Not sure who is taking this place over but they can turn it around. With great leadership and better food... So I will give them 3 stars overall but if my room was better maintained and the food being better and also taking more care of the inside like cleaning the glass doors. Well then you will be in a much better category
Family and friends = fabulous holiday
After reading so many of the negative reviews & comments about this resort, we headed down with very low expectations. Wow, did that change in a hurry!! There is nothing wrong with this resort. Is it a 5 star? No. But is it a 2 star? Also no. My gosh some of the people just love to complain! You had us second guessing our decision to book here. Remember that not only did Panama suffer tremendously through Covid (24% unemployment now....to begin with), but almost all resorts have. Our room was absolutely fine. Our view was just beautiful! You can see all the ships lining up in the distance, waiting for permission to enter the Panama Canal. The food was fine, the booze was fine, and the staff was exceptionally fantastic! There were 17 of us that travelled here together (including our amazing travel agent friend), and not a single one of us was disappointed. The staff couldn't do enough to make sure our vacation was great. This resort is conveniently located near Casco Viejo. The Panamanian culture experience was fantastic. You can take an Uber ride there for about $10 or less. We loved it so much that we went more than once! The rooftop bars and the restaurants are absolutely amazing. We highly recommend Casablanca restaurant. Wow....so good that we went twice! There's so much to see and do there. Ask for some recommendations at the Customer Service desk. There are beautiful old buildings there, and some of the insides of them will shock you at how gorgeous they are. Walk around and enjoy the sites and shops. Stick to the brick roads, was the advice we were given. We felt very safe. There is also a huge shopping mall about a $5 Uber ride away from the resort. So there's lots to see and do. Go see the sloths at the back of the resort as well. We looked for them daily, and saw at least 5 different ones. And Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, they host a disco downstairs! We had a blast there as well. Bring the right attitude, and don't forget your Sunscreen & Bubba cup! If you've booked here, and you're worried about the negative reviews, relax. If 17 of us all agreed we'd happily return, and that we had a fantastic time, so hopefully you will too. I'll attach some pictures of the resort, as well as some taken in Casco Viejo.
Wonderful Quick Trip
We recently spent three full days at Dreams. My husband and I had a great time during our time here. The resort is on the smaller side which we liked. We stayed in an Oceanfront King Preferred room. The view was beautiful and the room was kept quite clean. The pools were all very nice and well maintained. The food options here are a bit limited compared to larger resorts, but we had no trouble finding things we liked. The staff was accommodating and kind all across the resort. Our only negative was the outdated fitness facility, but we made it work. Overall I would definitely recommend this resort!
The food could have been a little better at the buffet, but the French and Italian restaurants were great! Excellent service from the housekeeping staff, to the bar staff to the pool staff. Not so over-crowded and pool chairs and/or beach chairs were never really an issue for us. Watching all of the boats lined up, awaiting their turn to enter the canal was always interesting. We took a sightseeing & canal tour and had quite the learning experience. Uber to town for less than $10. US Dollar is the most common currency in Panama and accepted by every business. Good restaurants in town also and casinos too. Great time had by all!!
Great experience, beautiful resort
Just got back from our vacation so I will give my completely honest review. We had an upgraded room on the 5th floor so we found the room clean and well maintained. I found the resort comfortable with gorgeous views, staff were friendly. Meals were good to excellent depending on your choice. I was extremely happy to have the upgraded room which includes the private pool and bar area as we were not travelling with children. In the other pools and bars that were not in the upgraded section, I immediately noticed a difference, they were always crowded and even the deck chairs and towels were better in the preferred section. Only minor complaint is constant issues with the elevator not working or sometimes working but this isnt a big deal as there are only 5 floors. The nite life entertainment at this hotel is really lacking, one day pretty much nothing, one day karioke, depends on when you go so on most nights we left the resort after dinner. Would I call this resort 5 star luxury? No, but it is a beautiful resort.
