Few tweeks and it could be great

We're here now! Obviously, this our own personal experience. Due to the layout of the resort, most of the rooms have little or no view (unless you pay for sea view) our room (block 63) right by evening entertainment site, is quite noisy as they store all their equipment for the shows here. So lots of clattering and banging before and after each show. Plus staff cupboards etc beneath us, which staff are using in the early hours of the morning and they're not very quiet about it. Room is quite basic and in need of refurbishment . Clothes smell once they've been in the wardrobe and drawers, lighting poor too! Beds are just about ok. We didnt have the basic room, but paid for preferred club tropical view but don't think that makes a difference to the rooms, just the amenities. Buffet restaurant is a bit hit and miss temperature of the foodcan be an issue, toaster not working and actual butter not available. The other restaurants are good (no need to book) men need long trousers for French restaurant only. Myself and others have been ill, but don't think it's the food due to timing, more likely to be a sickness and diarrhea bug going around. Pools are nice and this hotel does have the best beach on this stretch. Top shelf drinks available at all the bars. Entertainment team work hard, always something to do if you're that way inclined. From spin classes in the pool to water aerobics in the sea and/or pool, dancing, zumba the list goes on. Do get hassled a bit for spa treatments though. Worst thing is sun beds are awful, the most uncomfortable I've come across and being a beach holiday, you spend a lot of time on them! If they could change a few things, this resort would be great

    Needs some tweaking

I use Trip Advisor religiously when planning trips for my family so I take writing these reviews very seriously. We are a family of 3, son is 21 that traveled January 5-10. We booked a family suite preferred club so that we had some separation from our son. The room was to standard, cleaned and mini bar refreshed each day. The pillows were horribly uncomfortable, but the bed was fine. really no issues with the room Food/Drinks- the food was average. What you would expect for an all-inclusive. We really found the lunch options to be lacking but we were always able to find lunch and be mostly satisfied. For dinner our favorite was the Italian. We ate there twice. The filet and lasagna were pretty good. It is quit annoying the attempt to constant up-sell the wine, but a polite no thank you always worked fine for us. The drinks again were what you would expect at an all-inclusive. Cheap liquor. Thankfully we were preferred club so we did have access to top shelf in the preferred areas. Beach-The beach was stunningly beautiful. We picked this resort based upon the beach reviews alone and we were not disappointed. Beautiful color water and very calm. Not much in way of sea life if you want to snorkel but beautiful to look at very clam for swimming. Pool- This is where I feel like the resort is missing the mark the most. The pool is BEAUTIFUL! BUT the entertainment is so lacking. Either no music, buzz kill music, or music so loud you can't hear your self think. They rarely stuck to activity schedule. I never once saw pool volleyball even though the net was setup and was on the schedule daily. Very few chairs around the pool considering how the large the pool area. The chairs are mostly broken or so uncomfortable you can't bear to sit in them for long. We have been to many all-inclusive resorts and this pool entertainment is down towards to bottom. It's a shame because with the beauty of the pool this should be a highlight of the resort. Nightly Entertainment- Again this is an area that needs improvement. The show were just OK but what you'd expect at all-inclusive. After the shows is where the problems with resort arise. They have an area that is supposed to be the "club" with gaming tables, dance floor and bar. Everything is great until they start playing the music. The music is so loud that my 21 year old college student asked them to turn the music down. They would not. On this particular night there were maybe 15 people in the bar. WE ALL LEFT. They also have this wailing siren that goes off maybe every few minutes that is ear piercing and extremely annoying. Everyone was complaining about the level of the music but they refused to turn it down thus leaving them with an empty bar. We attempted to go 3 times during our stay and each time same story. Just turn the music down. Lobby bar was hit and miss for evening entertainment as well. The constant harassment by the Spa people is also an annoyance that should be stopped. We were asked no less than 20 times a day if we wanted to go to the spa. You can only be polite so many times. It was so bad that my son would just start telling them while they were approaching that we've already done it. Loudly! Overall this is a nice resort that could be fabulous with a few tweaks. For our family and trying to entertain a college age son we probably won't return. If I were a family with young children I'd give them a shot just knowing in advance their flaws.

    Not the stuff of dreams...

The hotel property is nice, staff are eager to help, friendly and polite. The beach is great, so are the pools. However, even though the upkeep and look of the resort are fairly good, the place is definitely not a five-star property. In general, we did not enjoy the food for most meals. It lacked flavour. Buffet items were constantly mis-labelled throughout our 5-day stay, at all meals. Some of those were very obvious (a dessert labelled as 'grilled vegetables'), while for some dishes it was hard to decipher what it contained (everyone is not familiar with every cuisine, and a basic description of whether an item was beef, pork, fish, etc would be helpful). We did bring this to the notice of the customer experience agent Krismely and the F&B manager Gladys, but didn't notice any change on subsequent days. The buffet restaurant World Cafe did not pay attention to food safety and didn't maintain the cold-chain - things like ham and cold-cuts were out too long, and developed a funky taste. We were asked about allergies, but preferences were not generally taken into consideration; there were hardly any hot dishes with vegetables, vegan or gluten-free options - there were just either grilled or sauteed peppers, the same raw/steamed veggies and dressings in the salad bar on repeat for almost every meal, and a couple of very sad-looking, almost dryish, gluten-free bread options. Food at Himitsu was absolutely terrible on Dec 25, 2024. There were absolutely no Thai flavours whatsoever in the Thai curry, and everything was very salty. We found this very disappointing after waiting an hour to get a table. The resort must also take into consideration CULTURAL preferences wrt food, rather than just allergies (i.e. people may have religious or cultural restrictions on the consumption of beef or pork). Better labelling of food items in the buffet would make it easier for guests to choose what to eat. A better selection of hot vegetable/vegetarian/vegan dishes would also go a long way in bringing repeat guests. Also, the bar menu mentioned whiskey sour as one of the drinks on offer, but one of the bartenders did not know what I was referring to when I requested one.  On the positive side, the chocolate desserts and coffee were consistently very good all throughout the F&B outlets. Food at Portofino was decent - while I wouldn't classify it as great Italian cuisine, it was reasonably tasty. The tomato soup and bread served at the table were very good! Portofino though lacked variety in the menu - a few additional choices would be welcome if people chose to eat at the same restaurant multiple times during a week's stay. Their towel service was very badly-managed too. From Dec 25 to Dec 30, we managed to obtain towels on the first try only once. For the rest of the days, every time we went to the counter, we were asked to come back 'after half an hour', and even then there were no clean towels available, to the point where we just used our own towels that we had got from home. We saw this happen to a few other guests as well. For a beach resort which calls itself a five-star property, this is absolutely unacceptable. They are fully aware of occupancy levels at any given time, therefore must ensure sufficient clean towels are always available during pool hours. Overall, even though the beach was fantastic, we wouldn't visit this resort again since it was not good value for money.

Great stay at the Dreams in La Romana.

Just got back from the Dreams resort in La Romana. Had a great time. But like every place there are some pros and cons. Pros: - Small but beautiful resort. There are no huge buildings for the rooms, so you do not get that hotel look. The buildings are smaller and give off a more relaxing vibe. The plant life is very beautiful and well taken care of. - The Beach!!! Wow amazing white sand and clear water. - The pools were beautiful and spacious. - The a la cart restaurants were good and so was the staff. - The food at the buffet was good as well. - The rooms were very nice and spacious. We were 2 adults and 2x12 yrds and we didn't get a crowded feeling. - The staff was helpful and very polite. - The drinks at the bar were great. - The entertainment staff did a great job all week long. Now for some cons. - Yes the beach was amazing, but they could put a bit more shaddy spots for the non v.i.p. members. My 1 and only complaint about the beach. - Yes the food at the buffet was good, but it can somtimes lack a bit of variety. It also sometimes took a while for the staff take our drink order and to pick up our plates as well. - The pools were beautiful, but the ones near the beach lacked chairs, and the ones they had were really not comfortable. - Yes the rooms were nice, but the beds and pillows got uncomfortable after a while. New ones wouldn't hurt. These are all very small cons. Overall, this is a very nice resort. I would come here again. 8/10.

    Snorkelling was fun

We had a suite with one bedroom and a pool. Room was very nice. Food : we didn’t care much for the food at the buffet and restaurants. Nothing tasted good. Lots of fruits and nice desserts. Pool was nice. Coffee shop was great. Beach beautiful. Shows were very nice. Definitely will recommend.
