    Horrible experience

Negative 5 Stars – Do NOT Recommend) I rarely leave reviews, but this experience at Cofresí Palma Real in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, was beyond unacceptable. If I could give this place negative five stars, I would. From the moment we arrived, things went wrong. We had booked and paid for the VIP Lifestyle section, but upon check-in we were told that because we arrived later in the day, the hotel gives away those rooms and places guests wherever they have availability. That is completely unacceptable—if you pay for a specific experience, you should receive it. Instead, we were placed at Cofresí Palma Real, which was a huge downgrade. The rooms were absolutely disgusting. • The refrigerator was rusted and had visible mold. • The bathroom was filthy, with hair all over the floor and inside the tub. • The tub itself looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time—there were foot marks, grease, and grime. • There was no proper showerhead, making it difficult to even shower normally. • The entire room felt outdated, poorly maintained, and unsanitary. • The beds were hard and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, every time we left the room, our key cards stopped working, forcing us to walk back to the lobby repeatedly just to reactivate them. This happened multiple times and was extremely frustrating. I will say this: the staff around the property were kind, courteous, and attentive, especially the servers in the dining areas. They did the best they could with what they had, and I truly appreciate their effort. However, the food was average at best, nothing memorable and certainly not worth the overall experience. The biggest issue—and the most serious one—was what happened after. I ended up with severe food poisoning during my stay. I became so sick that I had to cancel my flight to Orlando, and when I finally made it back to the United States, I had to go straight to the hospital. I required IV treatment because of how bad it was. What’s even more alarming is that I was not the only one. We were a group of about 25 people, and at least 10–15 people got sick. That is not a coincidence—that is a serious health and safety issue. Overall, this hotel needs a major overhaul, especially in housekeeping, sanitation, and management practices. Selling VIP experiences and not honoring them, combined with unsanitary conditions and widespread illness, is unacceptable. I would strongly NOT recommend this property to anyone. There are far better and safer options in Puerto Plata. Save your money, your time, and most importantly, your health.

DANGEROUS, NOT SAFE FOR KIDS and ADULTS

I had a very upsetting experience at this resort, and I feel obligated to warn other families. The most serious issue was a dangerous safety hazard—my son was laying on a RUSTED CURTAINS IRON on the BED, once he laying down it pocked him. which could have caused a serious injury. As a parent of a 4- and 9-year-old, this is completely unacceptable. A hotel should be a safe environment, not one that puts children at risk. This level of negligence is alarming. In addition to that, the overall cleanliness was terrible. We encountered roaches, the bathtub was dirty, the floors were not properly cleaned, there was sand all over the sofa, and we even found an opened Sprite left in the fridge from a previous guest. This was not just disappointing—it was unsafe and unsanitary. I am seriously considering taking legal action due to the negligence. If you are traveling with children or care about basic cleanliness and safety, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. STAY AWAY FOR SAFETY. STAY AWAY FOR SAFETY.

    Had a week of fun

Hubby, Granddaughter 11, and I stayed here for a week April 7 to 14. We paid for a Jr Suite Oceanview. We loved our stay, yes there are a lot of stairs, and I have 2 hip replacements and made it! Lol There is a shuttle every 25 minutes to take you around, he uses a hook, not a broom handle, to open the door on one of the shuttle so he doesn't have to get out all the time. The room may not be decorated to our standards, but does that matter..you're on vacation in a place of sunshine! As to the chipped tiles, maybe taps aren't shiny..does it matter? We had hot water, cleanly made beds everyday, and refills of water, pop, and 2 beer..what else do I need? Food was decent, never go hungry, unless you are a super picky eater. Did 3 ala cartes, good food. Pools galore, covered beds on the beach..we just needed a week to relax, and we got it. Staff were always friendly to us, maid service was awesome. The only illness I saw was from drinking too much, or heat exhaustion.. yes there is a sewer smell in some parts of the resort, there is a pipe that goes through a ditch im assuming is sewar..but remember you aren't home and rules and regulations are different here. Im trying to give an honest review, maybe im not as fussy as some, but I also didn't pay Hilton top star prices, i wanted a week off from everyday life, with my Granddaughter and hubby..we relaxed, ate, slept well, and laughed, just what we needed. So go with an open mind, dont be a Karen, relax, enjoy the sunshine

JUST DON'T. Any good review of this place is from family and friends.

The most disgusting place i have ever been to in my life! Too much to write, but these are the key points of this disaster. DO NOT BELEIVE THE RESPONSES FROM MANAGEMENT ON THESE REVIEWS. THEY DO NOT CARE. THEY WILL LAUGH IN YOUR FACE AND IGNORE YOU. Checked into our room and it was beyond inhabitable. Old, dusty, dark, gloomy, dirty, moldy room. Black dust on the ceiling fan piled up inches high. No dresser/table for your clorhes. The closet had no hangers nor shelves, instead a mold filled fabric hanging cubby. Bathroom old, rusty, moldy, stained, dried paint in the tub. I would have preferred to shower at an old abandoned haunted psych hospital. We asked to change rooms and their resolution was to send a cleaning person. My response was "the only thing that can save this room is a complete gut renovation.' They said all the rooms are the same. The Staff was very rude, unhelpful, no empathy, and no concern for their guests. While we were at guest services, there were 4 other groups of people that were saying the same exact thing about their room. The small van which the luggage porter takes you in....OMG. No windows, no AC, a metal grate like a prison van separating the back seats and the driver. I felt like I was in a horror movie being kidnapped. The shuttle bus...the driver had to open and close the door with a broom handle. In the end we checked in and out all within the same hour. I didn't know where I was going to go in another country, but my choices were either find a resort or go back home because no way was I staying here. I booked another resort (luckily I got the last one and at a good price) at Senator just a 5 minute ride away. The other people complaining could not find another room . I did lose my money on this dump because they did not care to help the guests in any way. THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN. If you have stayed here and had the same experience PLEASE write reviews on alll the platforms. They cannot get away with literally stealing people's money. BTW this is only half of my review. Im too tired to keep going.
