    Family Trip

We brought our family and everyone was delighted with our stay! The rooms were fresh, updated and clean. The grounds were immaculately groomed and just beautify. We saw several beautiful rainbows while we were there and the beaches were fantastic!

A (physically) tight, but nice resort

We recently stayed at Club Wyndham Bali Hai Villas for a week in early November of 2023. Consider these points to determine if this location could work for you: 1) This is a quite modern looking resort that (as of our visit) had one or two buildings under renovation. The design and layout of the buildings is such that a LOT of buildings are in very close proximity to each other. Walking from one end of this resort to the other does not take much time at all but there are some disadvantages to having buildings so closely packed to each other. One such disadvantage is with parking. We did not experience any significant issues with parking during our stay (in what I believe to be a slow time) but I would see significant parking issues if staying at this resort during a busier time. 2) There were two or three food trucks in operation during our stay - literally in our buildings parking lot (which does subtract from parking but you can’t beat the convenience of a food truck this close..) Their prices are quite competitive to other food trucks around the island and one of them (Taste of Asia) was turning out some fine looking dishes. 3) The one significantly negative item we experienced during this stay was a charge for electricity….I kid you not. This resort wants $20 per day for electricity despite the fact they have solar panels stuck on the top of just about every building in the complex. If ever there was a junk amenity fee this is it and if future travels bring us back to this area, for this reason alone I would likely stay elsewhere. Will they charge for water next?? 4) So when we heard about this charge, we thought the breeze would be sufficient to cool our unit. However, given the design of this resort (recall the buildings are VERY CLOSE to each other) and the fact this property is located in something of a depression (low spot), there is not enough breeze to cool rooms on the interior of the resort (which is where our room was located). Add to this the fact that lights were left on in our room prior to our arrival so when we arrived in the early evening, our unit was exceptionally hot. All of this is to say that even an upper level room in the middle of this resort cannot be cooled by the usual Hawaiian breezes, you can bet the lower units will be hot as well. A/C becomes a necessity but to be charged for the electricity is nothing more than a money grab. Now you can avoid being charged for electricity if you are willing to sit through a sales presentation…… 5) Enough of the bad, because there are a LOT of good things going on here. The two pools (and their surroundings) are in excellent shape and quite enjoyable. There are barbecue pits, hot tubs, and plenty of chairs and loungers near each pool area. The rock walls (for cosmetic effect only) provide a nice touch and there is a LOT of vegetation within the resort grounds. This is a very picturesque and relaxing resort. 6) The fact this resort is in Princeville (on the north shore) means you are away from what little traditional shopping and retail exists on the island (around Lihue). We really enjoyed this ‘being away’ aspect of this resort and over the course of our stay Kauai, we came to find the prices in Princeville were pretty close to what we found on the rest of the island (with the exception of grocery prices in Costco of course)…. 7) Staying in Princeville means you are near one end of the main roads that circle Kauai. DO NOT STAY IN PRINCEVILLE IF THE MAJORITY OF YOUR ACTIVITIES WILL BE ON THE SOUTH OR WEST SHORES…..unless you like long, slow drives! Princeville is a very picturesque area and if your vacation goal is to relax, this area would be ideal for this purpose. The views of the mountains here are quite beautiful - even when the rain/fog cover the mountain tops. 8) Our room was in good working order with a couple of oddities worth mentioning. The first is the master bathroom is NOT attached to the master bedroom - but the guest bedroom and bath are attached to each other. This makes sense given the room is designed to hold six (two on the sleeper sofa) but not having the master bedroom and bath connected is just weird. The other oddity is the master bathroom is NOT cooled (even when the A/C is on) but rather depends on opening a luver type window to let the steam out. Concurrently, the one advantage this creates is it allows the sound of running water from the big pool fountain to provide a soothing backdrop to your shower. As the week played out, we got used to dealing with this so it really is just an oddity… 9) The kitchen and bathroom furnishings in this unit were more than ample. Towels for beach and personal use were provided as well. The washed and dryer were smaller units but did the job. Beds were comfortable although the mattresses had some indentations in them suggesting they were getting close to (if not beyond) the end of their useful life. Showers were very generous space wise. Everything was in good working order. Clearly, these units have been well taken care of over time… 10) This is worth repeating - when visiting Kauai, even though the island is small, driving on the island can be a time consuming effort. One should carefully consider WHERE their desired activities will be on the island and then choose an accommodation nearby. As good as Club Wyndham Bali Hai is, if your activities are centered around the south or west ends of the island, you will hate that drive quickly! So would I recommend this location? As long as you consider location carefully, if the location of Club Wyndham Bali Hai works for you, I would definitely recommend this resort with one other proviso - if the time of year of your stay is during a busy season, parking will be an issue here. The one thing I did NOT see during our visit was any overflow parking area(s) around any building OTHER than parking around the club house (which is the check in building).

    Kauai

The hotel had great staff. Had a problem with the unit and a staff member showed up within the hour. Wonderful pools, rooms were excellent. Clean. Food truck was a bonus. Only decent beach in Kauai to swim in (Anni) at that time of year.

    Experience was fantastic

We had a great experience here. The only downs to it were that our unit was upstairs and we were carrying an infant and associated paraphernalia in and out, so that got old, and the bones of the unit--walls, bathroom fixtures, etc. seemed "tired", but all functioned. The unit amenities were fine, but not luxurious. The kitchen was spacious and we had space to relax in the evenings.

    Nice area

We are Wyndham owners and this was an ok experience. We didn’t get requested units. One of our units wasn’t updated so a bit used looking. I’ve never been told before we couldn’t have more coffee packets! Nice access to beach area but you can’t swim there because of currents. We liked the area better than Princeville
