Don't pass up this hotel steps away from many Chicago amenities
I've passed this Marriott dozens of times when I'm in Chicago but mostly overlooked it until this September, when I had a conference to attend there. It's now going to be my go-to. Facing Michigan Avenue, adjacent to many restaurants, and two blocks from the Red Line, this Marriott is ideally located for someone wanting to visit the city. The rooms are well-sized, comfortable, stylish, and what I expect from a Marriott. The Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent will be at the top of my list next time I visit Chicago.

Good luck actually getting any issue resolved.
Terrible experience. Could never speak with a live hotel agent and was charged a room charge even though we cancelled. They continued to refuse a conversation and hid behind email exchanges. Will never stay here again.

Is the thermostat just for show?
As a lifetime Bonvoy titanium elite member and an owner in the Marriott Vacation club, I’ve had my fair amount of hotel stays. I’ve never stayed at a place where I couldn’t control the temperature of my room, though. Guest services informed me that the whole building is control by a central HVAC, so if I want my room warmer I would just have to turn the system off because it’s set to AC. It’s 60 degrees in my room and they said they don’t turn the heat on until it’s below 50. I was offered extra blankets - yay! For a full service hotel that charges up to $500 per night, I would assume temperature control would be a given. 60 degree may sound great for many, but I need it warmer than that growing up in Texas.

Plain Jane hotel in a good location
First off- the location of this hotel is 5 stars! Close to the magnificent mile and tons of places to eat. The hotel, however, was no where near 5 stars. We were “upgraded” to a corner room. The view was decent but the room was woefully small and devoid of any personality. It was dated looking and dreary. We had a king size bed and usually in such a room, there will be some sort of couch or little sitting area. Here there was the obligatory desk chair and some hard bench built into the wall. The bathroom had a sliding door. It did not fully close, so forget any privacy. The sheets were rough and the towels were dingy, gray and rough as well. The walls were thin. One night we were kept awake by some drunk people roaming the halls at 2am. The hotel is large and very busy. The lobby is very large with a big bar scene and it is also very, very loud. Overall, just a large, nondescript hotel in a city that has thousands of other options.

Standard Marriott hotel but super crowded and extra fees
Standard Marriott hotel but super crowded and extra fees. 3.5 stars Highlights: - Good location with a short walk to many restaurant and shops. - Staff was gracious to help me with late night food options via their Instagram messages. - Large hotel with many floors and views of the city’s buildings. - Rooms were fine: clean and decent size and had refrigerators for leftover food. Lowlights - Didn’t care for them charging us a fee per day to use at the market or restaurant/bar. We arrived late on Friday so it couldn’t be used - Insanely crowded lobby every night. - Bar closes at midnight so have to go elsewhere for a drink later. Nothing extra special but it was fine for our weekend of eats.
