Hali’i Kai might be the best kept secret for lodging in the Big Island.
This place looks like an oversaturated photo; it’s gorgeous. Lush green grasses with tropical flowers that pop color all over the grounds. The Oceanside bar, pool, restaurant and workout facilities make for a unique experience. In the winter months you can watch whales jumping while riding the Peloton or grabbing a Mai Tai. We stayed in 3 bedroom 2 bath unit (23e) that was immaculate and well appointed. I won’t go back to a hotel on the big island again, this is my new favorite. Location is near the Hilton without having to deal with the throngs of people, small rooms, and long walks of contrived mega resorts.

Unhelpful office employee.
I called the office yesterday to ask a few questions before I booked. First of all I called four different times before someone answered. I needed to know about air conditioning, condition of the units, was there an elevator, etc. the lady who answered was extremely brisk. I explained that I had a couple of question before I made a weeks reservation. After my first question she said “I have other people here, and don’t have time to answer your questions” wow..I let her know that she had told me everything I needed to know, and decided if simple questions could not be answered, I would not spend any money. Booking a condo can be a very iffy proposition as you don’t know what you will get. I have read some reviews about rude staff, so this confirmed that for me. If you cannot take the time to answer or call me back, I don’t want to stay there.

Will not return
Cleaning fee that's $300 is certainly a rip off given there's no daily cleaning. I booked this place due to the good reviews on Costco but was pretty disappointed. Will not return. Also be aware that many buildings on the properties can be extremely far from the Ocean Club, making it pretty inconvenient if you have little kids. We ended up driving to the Ocean Club.

Great place to stay
We stayed at this resort for a month and loved every minute. The condo was comfortable and well supplied. We loved the Ocean Club, which is right on the ocean, where we spent a lot of time relaxing and whale watching. The unit was in need of some maintenance work--the patio door was extremely hard to open, which we reported, and was not resolved. We had no housekeeping service and requested a vacuum which we never received. We washed our own towels and linens.

Sunsets Galore
Our group of 8 (4 adults/4 kids) stayed in a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom unit, 4G. There was plenty of space for everyone, the kitchen was fully stocked with plenty of storage, and we had nice golf course with a peek of the ocean views from both lanais. There were beach chairs, beach towels, a boogie board, an umbrella, fishing pole, tennis rackets, and a cooler. Everything needed for a road trip. There is a pullout bed in the couch but it’s a full so the office gave us a good quality air bed. The Ocean Club pool area was very nice with amazing ocean views and sunsets. The kids had a great time and we all enjoyed the food and drinks from the restaurant. The complex is centrally located to shopping and beaches. The grounds were impeccable and the community quiet and welcoming. We would not hesitate to return.
