  Vacation with friends

  A few friends recently went to the BlueBay villas Doradas resort. Make sure you get the room you paid for; we paid for a superior room with a balcony. Upon arrival, we were told there were no rooms available with a balcony and to return the next morning after 10:00 to see if one became available. We didn’t go in the morning at 10:00, first day of vacation, rushing to the front desk wasn’t a priority. We did go the next day, the front desk manager told us that there is a three trier superior room (which is not listed anywhere on the internet nor their pamphlet) and that what we paid for was a trier one superior room. It was stated that our travel agent and the company should have clearly indicated what trier we wanted, this was a shock to us and our travel agent. The rooms are showing their age, windows don’t close properly, the hair dryer almost falling off the wall, limited furniture and the coffee maker in the room was old, dirty and needed to be replaced. We did have towels and water replaced daily. The fridge had nothing replaced although the website does indicate items would be in the fridge daily. Getting coffee before the buffet opens is difficult to find. The last day another guest told us that there was coffee around the spa area. Not a great place for it considering not everyone goes to the spa. The location is great, a short drive from the airport, a small mall within walking distance with two levels and not a big distance from the city but a taxi or other means of transportation would be necessary. The beach is large, clean and water most welcoming, although water activities while we were there were not permitted due to rough water. The resort is small and very clean. Although the staff try to keep the pools clean, the swim up bar pool by lunch was not often clean. Guests seem to have a problem with leaving items such as dental floss picks, flip flops floating, etc. More cleaning at this pool is a must lots of daily activities here. The staff friendliness gets better after a few days for the most part. The entertainment staff keep things moving both daily and nightly. The nightly entertainment was normally over by 10:00 was most enjoyable with every night a different show. Two nights there were beach parties for those the sun didn’t wipe out. There are not enough loungers on the resort, folks get up very early in the morning to get a lounger and/ or cabana. Reading comments lack of loungers is a common complaint. Venders come along at the beach but are not aggressive and are very friendly. If it weren’t for the unfriendly and aggressive front desk manager with a poor unbelievable explanation about the room nor any form of compensation (the use of the VIP beach chairs which we asked); we won’t be returning.
