Wonderful staff!!!!!!! Perfect locstion, beautiful resort

We spent our honeymoon at AVA Resort in Cancun and had the best time. Location is perfect - only about 15 minutes to the airport. The atmosphere is great - kid-friendly but if you are not wanting to be around children they have some adult-only activities including an adults-only pool, nightclub, and a few restaurants. Noise level is normal. It’s not quiet but it’s not too loud. Our rooms were perfectly quiet. Because we booked on Expedia, we were given a personal assistant - Alberto - and discounts throughout the resort including at the golf course and spa. The rooms were beautiful and cleaned thoroughly and regularly. Every room is ocean-facing - there’s not a bad view on the entire resort! The tub on the balcony was my favorite part. Alberto was AMAZING - he made our trip so special. He was able to book our bali beds, day excursion to Isla Mujeres (a must!!), and our golf trip and spa day. He was tentative, thoughtful, and kind. Our trip wouldn’t have been the same without him! Alberto - thank you again for your generosity. You are a shining star at AVA! The pools are beautiful and service is PERFECTO -Other important shoutouts- Pool staff: Paolo (THANK YOU!!!), Nadia, Juan, Jose, Alejandro, and Sena Massage: Norma Bellhop: John Minami: Eduardo Bao: Christian Unfortunately, I’m sure I’m missing a few people. The staff was so kind and truly we had an amazing experience. We will surely be back again.

    Great family vacation

We had an excellent family vacation at Ava. There was a lot for our two boys, 6 and 9 to do. Julien and Alexa from the entertainment team hosted a lot of great activities. The kids loved the water obstacle course and kayaks in the salt water lagoon. The food at the restaurants was delicious. Ariel and Manuel helped to make our experience extra special. We can’t wait to come back!

Comfortable, quiet, but no "Adult Only" zones

We absolutely adored AVA. The rooms were cleaned, love the fact that they all have an ocean view. The mini bar was well stocked. Ava Bay is phenomenal. This review should be taken in to consideration that we traveled to AVA without children. We did have a few small issues: They cleaned our room but took all of our towels, it then took almost an hour to get towels to the room when all we wanted to do was take a shower after a day at Isla Mujeres. We also had an issue at the North end of Ava Bay where it was like our waiter was sent home or ended his shift or got called away and no one was told to take his spot. There was also a slight issue with the thermostat in the room. I like a COLD room. I never could get the room below 20.5 celsius even with the thermostat being set at 18.5 and the balcony curtains closed. The "Adults Only Pool" wasn't being enforced. Young children were being allowed to be in the pool. While this is a "family" resort, having the ability to go somewhere without children when you are traveling without children is a perk that I don't like to lose. I will say, the other issue with the "adults only pool" is that it is right next to another pool. Unlike other Hard Rock resorts it isn't well separated for that quieter experience you expect to have when doing something "adults only" It would have also been helpful had there been "adults only" events to attend later in the evening. It may have been adults only in the night club, I didn't not attend the night club as it is not my thing, but having somewhere that is meant for adults to play games or have drinks without being around kids would have been extremely beneficial. Having been to the Hard Rock Riviera and the Hard Rock Punta Cana I kind of expected that there would be some of this separation and ability to participate in adults only activities but that was not the case. The rooms were smaller than other Hard Rock properties but they were cozy. The beds were comfortable enough, though the pillows could use some work but that's always a preference issue. All of the rooms have an ocean view and a tub that's on the balcony; though be warned, the tubs are visible from the pool soooo be cautious. The tubs were large and comfortable, and you could tell that they were well cleaned between guests. The rooms are mostly quiet, unless you have kids running down the halls at full blast and screaming at the top of their lungs; outside of that kind of scenario we never heard any noise when we had all of our doors closed. The entertainment that we were able to participate in was great. There was a variety of different entertainment occurring at the theater. We unfortunately didn't get to experience as much of it as we would have liked but what we did experience was worth attending. The drinks were all well prepared. I don't think there was a drink they made me that I didn't like. They weren't overtly strong but they also weren't weak at all. There was plenty of seating around the pools. We never really had to fight to find a lounge chair. The only thing we had issues with is getting towels and even then as soon as a fresh batch came out the servers were quick to remember who still needed them and ran them out to be set up. The servers (other than the one issue we had on the North end of bay) were phenomenal. They were quick to make sure drinks were refilled, to bring out food, and if they thought you might be in the pool for a while longer after they brought your drink to your chair they'd just bring you a drink to the pool as well. The service was phenomenal all the way around. The servers at the pools were attentive. The servers in the restaurants were quick and polite. And all of the restaurants like to celebrate your birthday. If you are there over your birthday don't be surprised if all of the restaurants celebrate it. The food was actually rather enjoyable. There's a good variety available and none of them let us down. I don't know that I can truly state that I had a favorite restaurant. And I Have to say, I was super surprised when my husband came over to me at breakfast and let me know that the woman who was working the omelette station jumped over to the taco station when there was no one in her line to help with the taco line. There was no "this is my job this is what I'm going to do." Unlike other Hard Rock/LVC hotels all of the walking, except for by the pool, is done indoors. Getting to your room, the lobby, the different experiences, the restaurants, all of it is indoors. The only time you are outside is if you choose to go sit on a deck/patio or if you are going to the pools, everything else is completely enclosed. The price was affordable for us. To be fair, we are Legendary Vacation Club members so the price is a bit different, but over all the quality of what you are getting for the price that you are paying is worth it. We bought in to LVC last September. We did sit through another presentation this time, an opportunity for them to try to upsell our package from what it currently is. I will say that the timing in which they do this is pretty silly because they cost themselves a sale. We informed them at the very beginning of their pitch that we weren't interested in upgrading because we needed to see what the different resorts had to offer, that this was our first time at AVA and we haven't seen anything at all (our presentation was within 18 hour of our arriving at AVA), and we just needed to make sure that LVC was where we would want to spend the next 20+ years if we were to upgrade. If they had waited until day 3 or 4 of our being at AVA they probably would have made a sale; honestly, what they offered us was worth it in the long run. However, because they choose to do this so soon after you arrive they absolutely lost out on the sale. Overall I would give the resort 4.5 out of 5 stars. The few minor inconveniences really weren't enough to truly drop the rating. It is definitely on our list to return to.

    Excellent if you plan ahead

Stayed with family (children are 5 and 2 years) from April 1-8. Overall stay was amazing and I will return, but only after knowing what I know now. TL;DR - if traveling with young children, pack a wagon. - download the app as soon as your reservation is confirmed and make your dinner reservations. This is particularly helpful if you're traveling during peak vacation times (ie: spring break, christmas) RESORT: this is a great resort and it's massive. Like others have said, it's like a cruiseship, but the only difference is that it's not staffed like a cruiseship. They probably have enough staff to comfortably accommodate 50% capacity. This is not a resort where staff will go above and beyond because they just can't. Rooms are clean and what you would expect. Bathtub on the balcony is nice and all rooms are ocean front. If you have mobility issues, I did see some motorized wheelchair and manual wheelchair rentals throughout. If you have children, bring a wagon since their little legs won't get from the pool to your restaurant or room. There is a shuttle that runs and it was empty when my kids took a ride, but pretty convenient. Be prepared to walk, but it's good physical activity after all the lounging you'll be doing. RESTAURANTS: the restaurants were all delicious. We didn't try the Italian and adults only restaurants so I can't comment on those. Rodolfo at Minami let us sit at an empty table so we could just enjoy their dessert after eating elsewhere. Restaurants require reservations and they prioritize guests with chairman status (part of their timeshare). Because of this, you want to download the app as soon as your reservation is confirmed and make your dinner reservations. Otherwise, you'll be eating at 10pm or at the buffet. The hotel says you can check in with the restaurant at 5pm when they open to see if there are cancellations, but who wants to do that on vacation? You can check in after each of the seating times to take a no-show spot, but you'll still be running around the resort. We went to both buffets and the south side buffet is definitely larger with greater variety. If you're looking for tacos, the ones at the taco stand outside of copal are much better than the ones at the buffet. There was once a pop up canasta bar and these were excellent! There is so much food all over. On busy nights, the hotel will set up pop up restaurants in the open conference area since they know everyone can't fit in the restaurants. KIDS CLUB: best kids club I've ever seen! Starts are 4 years old and you'll need to show your child's physical passport the first time they enter. It's drop off all day with a few hours of family time sprinkled throughout the day. Inside theres a large soft play structure with a trampoline house and slides. There's also a baby room with tons of toys that's open until 8pm. My son doesn't like to join solo, but he did agree to join their treasure hunt and he had a blast for one hour! POOLS: the saltwater pool is massive. You'll never brush up against someone else even during the busiest times. It's pretty cold, but a nice reprieve from the hot weather. The smaller pools are warmer and many are heated. The kids water slides are so much fun. There is a lifeguard keeping watch, but really for safety purposes and not to spoil the fun. The inflatable obstacle course is by reservation only and reservations open at 10am. A line begins to form at 9am during peak times). It's actually really fun. Kayaks aren't by reservation, but you need to first sign a waiver that's valid for the duration of the trip. You just line up by the staff member and you'll get on the next kayak. We went during spring break so my husband did save our chairs in the morning. Otherwise, we wouldn't have a place to sit. BEACH: probably the worst beach I've seen, but it's pretty shallow even after wading in pretty far. On a calm day you can see fish swimming around. The south side is definitely better. ENTERTAINMENT: my kids of course loved the arcade. You purchase a reloadable card for $20 and load it with how much you'd like. Each game ranges from $1-$2. Great to spend some time after dinner. We didn't try the baseball simulator, bowling, racing simulator, golf, escape room, or laser tag, but all looked fun. We actually didn't have time! The nighttime live shows were excellent! At 9pm in the theater, we watched a light dance show, magician, and Mexican themed show. Again, the best seats are held for guests with chairman status so you'll never get a spot directly in the center, which I don't understand. TIMESHARE: the timeshare salespeople are dressed in navy blue with a white button down shirt. They are also the ones to review the hotel with you after initial check in so there's no avoiding them. However, if you decline their incentivized presentation they leave you alone during your trip. They sell it as a 90 min presentation, but a friend said it's actually 3 hours long. Our family will be going back, but next time we'll be sure to make all our dinner reservations well ahead of time. For this trip we thought reserving tables 2 weeks in advance would be enough (it's not). Best to do months in advance if you're able.

    Ava Experience

Ava Cancun was an incredible experience. My family and I traveled with another family and we all had a great time. Pool attendees were very attentive and the food was delicious. We were fortunate to have been paired with butlers AB and Yazmin who were both fantastic. They helped to facilitate a memorable vacation for both kids and parents.
