Nov 06, 2026A Dream Vacation That Started on the Wrong Foot
Unfortunately, our overall experience was overshadowed by a very frustrating situation right from the beginning. It left a sour taste in our mouths that was difficult to shake for the remainder of our stay. Upon checking in, the front desk employee, Gabby (I believe that was her name), placed a hold of over $4,000 on our credit card for incidentals. This essentially rendered that card unusable for the rest of our vacation. Our trip had been booked and paid for months in advance, and we had been told to expect a possible incidental hold of approximately $150 per day, which we had planned and budgeted for. A hold of over $4,000 was completely unexpected and created unnecessary financial stress at the very beginning of what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation. Being our first time in Hawaii and at this particular resort, we were already unfamiliar with what to expect in terms of pricing. We were hesitant to make purchases around the resort or even book dinner reservations because we assumed everything would be extremely expensive. At one point, we approached the concierge desk to ask about typical restaurant pricing. We simply wanted to know whether certain restaurants were more expensive than others and what we might expect to spend per meal. Unfortunately, the female concierge we spoke with responded in what came across as a very smug and dismissive tone, saying, "Well, it's resort pricing, so it's all expensive." We weren't expecting anything to be cheap. We were simply asking for a general price range so we could plan accordingly. Thankfully, a gentleman working alongside her stepped in and actually answered our question, which we appreciated. A couple of days into our stay, we finally approached another front desk employee about the $4,000 hold. She seemed genuinely shocked by the amount and immediately told us that it was clearly a mistake. She took the matter seriously and arranged for a manager to contact us. What makes this experience so disappointing is that we had been looking forward to this vacation for months. We understood that staying at a resort in Hawaii would be expensive, and we were prepared for that. What we weren't prepared for was an unexpected $4,000 hold and interactions with staff that made us feel uncomfortable simply asking reasonable questions. First impressions matter, especially at a resort where guests are spending a significant amount of money for what should be a memorable and enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, the way our stay began affected how comfortable we felt throughout the trip and took away from the experience we had been so excited about. I do want to acknowledge the employees who were helpful, particularly the gentleman at the concierge desk and the second front desk employee who recognized the billing mistake. Their professionalism was appreciated. I just wish that level of service had been consistent from the beginning.

This is an incredible resort, the location, the amazing employees, everyone, everything was amazing. Truely, something for everyone, from my 75 year old parents to my 5 year old daughter, everyone had an amazing time.

Ok stay
Place is good. More Updated than other hotels in the area. However, when they have a down pool and don’t increase seating elsewhere that’s a big management issue.

Great hotel and experience
We had a fantastic stay at the Andaz Maui for our honeymoon and would absolutely recommend it to friends and family. The overall experience was wonderful, and we left with great memories. I especially want to recognize Josh, who was working at the Lawaiʻa Lounge. He was exceptionally personable, made us feel genuinely welcome, and crafted a fantastic cocktail. It’s these kinds of personal interactions that really elevate a hotel experience and stay with you long after you leave. Josh was a great example of the hospitality that makes a stay memorable.

Amazing
The place is beautiful. The staff and the service were amazing. The resort is friendly to all group types; there were couples, families, children, and it was very enjoyable. Highly recommend.
