  • A UNESCO World Heritage Site

    Santo Domingo was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990 due to its cultural significance. The city is home to the first cathedral, university and hospitals of their kind in the Americas, symbolizing the historical importance of Santo Domingo in the Western world. While visiting, you’ll also be able to see other well-preserved bits of the ancient city, he​lping you get a feel for colonial times.

  • El Malecón

    El Malecón is a boardwalk that runs along Santo Domingo’s coast and winds around most of the city. Avenida George Washington is lined with restaurants and hotels, granting you access to beautiful views of the ocean as well as some of the best east in town. Both at day and night, most of El Malecón is buzzing with sounds of the ocean mixed with Latin music and effervescent dancers enjoying the good vibes. It’s definitely the place to be if you want a true Dominican experience.

  • Visit the New World’s first cathedral

    Built in the 16th century, Santa Maria La Menor is the first Christian structure erected in the New World. The cathedral is an impressive sight inside and out, built of solid limestone with silver high alters and cross-vaulted ceilings complementing its gothic/baroque design. Stepping into this building is always a special moment for Dominicans, not only due to its historical significance but also because of its spiritual value.

  • Art, shops, food and more

    After you visit El Malecón, head to Parque Colon for a different tasted of the Dominican Republic. This charming park in the town’s square is perfect for a low-key day. Cigar shops, art boutiques and cafes surround the park, which is the starting point of the historical district. From here, you have the option of going inside the Santa Maria La Menor cathedral or venturing out to El Conde, the area’s main shopping area.
