    Very disappointed

Came here with my family for Sunday lunch on the beach and ended up leaving due to not being served after waiting for 45mins. The thing is that - apart from customers at the bar there were only three other couples seated and they'd been served. Im not sure if there has been a change in management or shortage of employees or maybe they were all having a bad day, but we left very disappointed. We carried our business somewhere else and was served within minutes (how it should be). Its also such a shame what they have also done to the beach. The sargassum has banked up and ruined it due to the massive rock structure that was placed in the water.

    25th Anniversary Trip!

We were celebrating our 25th anniversary! We decided to travel to Grand Cayman for being safe. We wanted a vacation that was relaxing and all-inclusive; food, sun, sand and beach. This is what we got at the Wyndham Reef Resort Grand Cayman. The stay was exactly what we wanted. The food was high quality. The service was a cut above. The experience was amazing. Thank you for making this experience awesome 😊

    Average stay in Studio Unit

The resort itself is very nice. Lots of activities during day. The beach is the reason I gave a 3 star review. There is sargassum and the beach does not look like the advertised picture. The resort is far from 7 mile beach which is absolutely stunning, no sargassum. It took us over 1 hour to drive there and 1 1/2 hr to get back to our resort. Not many restaurants in the area. We left our resort 1/2 way through our vacation to go stay near 7 miles beach. For beach lovers, this is not the place for you.

Great facility on the quiet east end

Wonderful units right on the beach. Excellent staff and great restaurant. Try the seafood buffet. Friendly and helpful staff. Relationship with Ocean Frontiers very helpful for snorkeling and diving.

Beautiful! BUT with exception to location.

This is a pretty long read, but hopefully it will help others that have never been to the Cayman's and are not familiar with the lay of the land! The Wyndham Reef Resort on the EAST end is truly a beautiful resort. The rooms are spacious and impeccably clean; however, we checked in on Monday, and they didn't come to clean or at least replace towels until Thursday. Maybe it was in the fine print and I didn't read it! You couldn't ask for better food or drinks. Everything, and I mean everything we had was outstanding! Try the Mahi Fish tacos (grilled Mahi); trust me, they were so good, we had them three times during our stay. Each night they have a different theme special, which was really nice to have offerings other than what is on the regular menu. They do have a daily breakfast buffet, but at $30, we decided to order from the menu...I'd never be able to eat THAT much for breakfast to justify the cost! Pristine beaches, which they "rake" daily and make sure they are clean. There are a couple of pools and those are very nice as well. There is pier that you can walk down and a ladder if you decide to take a dip that far out. Also, they also have volleyball set up in one of the pools and on the beach. The service at the entire resort is excellent all the way around. From the front desk, bartenders & waitstaff down to groundskeepers; all are very friendly and accommodating. We actually had to reschedule this trip by almost a month because I had the flu that turned into pneumonia, and they were really good about getting me rescheduled. THE BAD; We ended up not having the all-inclusive on the food & drink. This is NOT included when you book your room and I thought it was. At $489 a night for the room, I guess it was stupid of me to have assumed. (Again, damn fine print). I received an email about a week before our trip, "offering" the all-inclusive - with cheaper end being $189 per person, per day, and high-end $250 per person. We really didn't think we'd stay there as much as we ended up doing, so food and drinks really took a bite out of our wallet. (See driving info that caused this!!) But then again, EVERYWHERE on the island (non-fast-food chain), is expensive...think airport prices on most food and drink. Note, we tried to add it for the last two days we were there and the resort wouldn't let us. (Seriously weird that they turned down the extra bucks!) This is the 1st big one! You ARE on the OTHER SIDE of the island. Granted it is quiet, but if you want to do ANYTHING touristy wise or unless you PLANNED to stay AT the resort the ENTIRE stay, you will be taking a cab or driving to get there (I'll get to that in a minute). There is nothing within walking distance to the Reef except for a small grocery store, but well stocked (Foster's) (thank God!), a liquor store (Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits) (double thank God!) and a very good Italian restaurant (The Italian Kitchen), which we did visit one night and highly recommend. They do offer daily activities at the resort, e.g. excursions, snorkeling, corn hole competition, a really fun round of trivia at the outside bar, and other various games. But again, as far as shopping, nightlife, golf or other places like the various sanctuaries, they are on the other side. You are only talking like 25 miles max; but it will take you AT LEAST an hour or more to get there in their traffic; which is absolutely horrible! 2nd BIG ONE --- DRIVING (probably should have been the first!). Unless you are beyond fluent on driving on the other side of the road AND CAN EASILY NAVIGATE 5 MILLION ROUNDABOUTS (not kidding, the island is filled with them, which we had no clue beforehand), then I highly recommend staying on the other side of the island. The islanders whip around these things like they've been driving since birth! We learned about the driving the hard way. We had actually rented a car and within 24 hours, knew that we'd get ourselves or someone else killed. So, we returned the car...that is how we found out how ridiculous the taxi fees were and that there are NO shuttles/local "buses" that come to the East end!! A roundtrip taxi from one end to the other will cost you $240 bucks, U.S. dollars. The ONLY shuttle the resort offers is for excursions set up by the resort. Even then, you have to pay, but a very small fee compared to the taxi. I AM MIFFED that you spend a really good chunk of money to stay here and they don't even offer a shuttle to the airport, which will cost you $95.00. Also, I don't think Uber or Lyft is a thing there. If it is, I never saw it. Lastly, when visiting Georgetown, and I have no idea how you'd find this information...but you need to know if and how many cruise ships are anchored and are tendering guest to the island. There were FOUR HUGE ships that were bringing guest in, so it was beyond crowded. One of our taxi drivers actually told us we should avoid the area when multiple ships are there. If you've stuck around for my essay, congrats! I honestly hope that it helps you if you are planning a stay on the East end. I honestly wish we would have known all of this. We spent a ton of money on a trip that really wasn't that great. If we were to go again, it would definitely be closer to civilization and NOT on the East of Grand Cayman ;)
